Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 7/20/14

DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. Gone is the salary finagling, mixing and matching, and hair-pulling that goes into setting lineups. ScoreStreak simplifies the process in an easy-to-use interface. Employing a prop-pick style, ScoresStreak leagues are specific outcome dependent with three categories: Total Bases, Hits, and for pitchers, Strikeouts.

Total Bases

Miguel Cabrera
While he's historically hit lefties better, Miggy has crushed right handed pitching this year. With a .543 SLG against them, he's been seeing the ball terrifically and hitting it with purpose. Tomlin is a heavy fly ball pitcher and is prone to giving up the long ball, so I wouldn't worry too much about the platoon split situation.

Ryan Braun
Same story for Braun as Miggy. He's slugged .529 against right handers this year, and Gio has been allowing a lot of fly balls this year as well. On a day that doesn't feature a lot of great lefty/righty match-ups for power hitters, Miggy and Braun stand as well ahead of the class as far as our projection system is concerned.

Hits

Andrew McCutchen
Jose Altuve
Same story for both of these cats, though you could make a case for McCutchen in total bases as well. Both of them are facing horrid left handers (Matzek and Danks, respectively), and both are among the very best in the game at generating hits against left handers. If pressed, I'd have to give the nod to Altuve. The guy only walks or strikes out 13.1% of the time (HOLY COW), and John Danks hasn't been a strike out pitcher in years. Altuve is batting over .400 this season against lefties. What else do you need to know?

Strikeouts

Alert - our projection system does not care what you think about Clayton Kershaw. The Cardinals are one of the toughest teams to strike out in the majors (just 18.3%), and while Kershaw is a force of nature, our system likes him as the 4th or 5th best option tonight. So who does it like?

The following was written by Doug yesterday, and it still holds true today, so here you go:

Gio Gonzalez
I think if you feel like going for 9 Ks Gio is a fine place to start. It's a tough number to hit, but the Brewers are bad against lefties ranking 20th in the league in team wOBA against lefties while also striking out 22% of the time. Gio's biggest issue is that he struggles to go late in games because of the walks. This is the problem with having him in the highest slots even though he K's more than a batter an inning. But the opponent K's a ton and he should be in your top three for sure.

Tim Lincecum
The Marlins have lost their crown as the easiest team in the majors to strike out in the majors, but boy do they swing and miss against right handed pitching. Lincecum's K numbers have drifted downward over these last few years, but he's still striking out 8 guys per nine innings, and his reduced stuff should still be plenty to fool the swing-happy Miami squad.
