Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 7/21/14

DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. Gone is the salary finagling, mixing and matching, and hair-pulling that goes into setting lineups. ScoreStreak simplifies the process in an easy-to-use interface. Employing a prop-pick style, ScoresStreak leagues are specific outcome dependent with three categories: Total Bases, Hits, and for pitchers, Strikeouts.

Total Bases

So many options today it’s kind of hard to narrow them down. That’s what happens when a bunch of crappy lefties take the hill and one them throws in Coors.

Jayson Werth
I’m not fading Coors Field today by any stretch of the imagination and honestly I could put Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman here as well (hint, hint). Today’s the kind of day I wish ScoreStreak allowed for more spots (hint, hint) and the Nats heading into Coors make me more than a little excited. As I’m sure they will everyone else. Werth is one of the dominant lefty platoon dudes in all of baseball with an OPS close to 1.000 this season which only builds on his career numbers. What a spot and he should clean up the total bases category.

Miguel Cabrera
Facing a Vidal Nuno in Chase Field. Do you need any more explanation than that? I hope not. Even in a non-Miggy season he still rates out as one of the best hitters in the baseball with an OPS close to .900 (poor for is lofty standards). I don’t care though. This is too good of a matchup in too good of a park.

Hits

Ian Kinsler
Speaking of lefty platoon splits heading into Chase Field to face Vidal Nuno. Kinsler rocks a nice career contact rate against lefties and is better on this side of the split. It hasn’t played out perfectly that way this season (costing me some sheckles early) but I don’t live in the past and neither should you.

Brian Dozier
What I like about this play is that Dozier is better against lefties and T.J. House has a low K and walk rate. The reason the latter two considerations are important in this format is because we are looking for hits as our one and only outcome. Getting to face a pitcher who puts the ball in play is tantamount and Dozier hitting leadoff (with a chance at an extra PA) only increases the chances.

Strikeouts

Tough day to sniff out K’s. It’s hard to envision anyone hitting 9 K’s so both of these recs are for the 7 and 6 category respectfully.

Julio Teheran
His low walk rate keeps him hanging around games for long enough to reach the mid tier plateau in strikeouts. That’s all you need in this format and he mitigates the risk of early departure by facing a below average team in the Marlins. That they also K at an abnormally high rate is all the better. I still don’t see Teheran pushing the 9 K mark but 6-7 is totally reasonable.

Chris Sale
I know he’s elite striking out close to ten batters per nine. And I know he limits the walks which allows him to pitch later in games. And the Royals are bad against lefties on the whole. But they never strike out against southpaws. Their 16.6 K% is the lowest in the league and really makes me worry about Sale racking up the swings and misses. When that’s all we are looking for better to just play it safe. Stick him in a lower slot and find the upside somewhere else.
