Baseball Picks Daily Fantasy Expert Advice

DFSR has been squaring off with Randy Williams (@devilball420) from Daily Fantasy Sports Network in an impromptu H2H challenge. It's been fun. The series is even at 2-2. When possible, I'll post results and a look into some of my strategy going in. And just a note, the last write up I did was when I lost in case anyone thinks I'm cherry-picking my spots.

Last night was a short slate and our two lineups had no overlap at all. This is kind of unbelievable really. Check out our squads below.

Pitchers:
I thought Bumgarner was the safest bet on the board last night against a really weak Padres squad. I was further buoyed in that opinion when I saw who the Dads were running out there. This didn't come to fruition. He was bad, allowing runners on base every inning, with errors extending some innings as well.

Wacha on the other hand was a fantastic play, and really had Randy out to a big lead early. With Braun and Segura out of the lineup, the Brewers were a significantly weaker squad. Wacha was awesome until the 7th, an inning that cost him the win.

Infield
I think Randy opts for more BvP numbers, going with Moss against Darvish, and the Cards in general against Gallardo. I could be wrong about this, but I read him daily and this is a stat he mentions.

I was targeting more career splits. Goldschmidt and Tulo were my top picks of the day and guys I had everywhere. Spending here paid off as both came through with nice days, Tulo especially. Troy was the difference on the day. The other day it was Rendon for Randy.

Prado and Raburn were also guys I targeted on career splits who were favorably priced. Raburn stunk, Prado paid. Sandoval and Crawford on the other hand struggled against Tyson Ross.

Outfield
In general, I probably went a bit too heavy on one game considering this was a cash game. Putting all my eggs in the Rockies/DBacks basket might not have been a great strategy. I targeted cheap upside in the outfield and was really regretting not playing Holliday (a high percentage cash game play across the industry).

My outfield plays were bad. This is the risk of running cheap options out there. But I thought with Pollock and Barnes hitting near the tops of their respective lineups, with favorable splits against weak pitchers, the upside was there. I really only needed one to pay. None of them did. But Tulo made up the slack.

Holliday was a strong play and had a great game against Gallardo.

To be honest, at about 9 PM I thought I was sunk in this matchup with Wacha and Holliday's returns. Looking forward to doing it again tonight.
