Total Bases

Yasiel Puig
For total bases tonight I'm heading out to Denver for some of that clean, crisp, super thin air. Puig has been a beast this season plain and simple. His 1.137 OPS is a bit Babip fueled, but really how much worse would he be? He's crushing. Against an unknown quantity in Eddie Butler, I'll take Puig. Yasiel is an equally opportunity killer against both lefties and righties so the splits don't matter much. He destroys both. This is our top total bases play.

Miguel Cabrera
Rubby de la Rosa came out like lightening in his first major league start, mowing down the Rays with eight strikeouts in seven innings. The Tigers aren't the Rays. Miggy is Miggy and I'm not completely buying what de la Rosa did against Tampa. Cabrera, I think, actually makes the Pug decision on total bases a little close than you'd think. In fact, our system projects Miggy a bit higher. But I'm tempering it a bit only because of de la Rosa's first start. It's hard to totally quantify that return so I'm willing to put Miggy down the list just a bit. Stil so solid and should be in your top three.

Hits

Jacoby Ellsbury
For hits I want to target a guy like Ellsbury for a couple of reasons. Obviously, he's facing a crap pitcher in Guthrie who really struggles with inducing swings and misses. But Guthrie also limits the walks. He pitches to contact and Ellsbury, with his speed, should see his chances at scratching out a hit. As a team the Yankees are in a great spot to put up runs on Guthrie, meaning Jacoby could see at least an extra at bat. He is tops in our system to produce multiple hits today.

Dustin Pedroia
The power is an issue this season for sure. But making contact isn't. Pedroia is one of the best in the league at hitting lefty pitching and southpaws have a near impossible time striking him out. In a limited sample this season Pedroia has only K'ed 9% of the time. He also has a 126 wRC+ against lefties. Against Smyly, Pedroia should have his bat on the ball.

Strikeouts

Yu Darvish
No brainer here. Darvish is by far the biggest K upside play of the day. I probably don't even really need to tell you this. The only thing tempering my excitement here is the opponent. The Indians do not strikeout a ton against lefties. Their 17.6 K% is fifth best in the league. A contact bunch, it will be an effort for Darvish to get to the nine strikeouts today. But man, he does rack up the K's. He's striking out nearly 11 per 9.

Cole Hamels
Hamels on the other hand faces a team heavy on the swings and misses. The Reds rank 23rd in the league against lefties in K%, striking out 23.5% of the time. Hamels needs to limit the walks and stay in the strike zone. If he does the strikeouts should follow. He's sporting a 9.06 K/9 rate which should score you some points with the Reds as an opponent.

There you have it. Come and play us over at ScoreStreak. Super easy sign in through FaceBook and look for my picture. It's the handsome devil kissing his daughter. I'll be playing these picks and we'll duke it out over the thirds. Good luck!
