Total Bases

Hanley Ramirez
Coors Field is always going to have guys in this spot. With Puig maybe out after leaving yesterday's game, I'm going with Hanley in this spot. He's a lefty killer, rocking an OPS a 1K OPS over the last year them. Jorge de la Rosa is just the kind of lefty we want to pick on in Coors. Hanley will be hitting near the top of the order (second or third) and stands to see a lot of pitches in that mile high air. FWIW, the Hanley we are seeing this year is much more representative of his actual skills. Last year was a bit a of an aberration because the HR/FB ratio was super run hot. Regardless, he's in good shape to pick up extra bases today.

Edwin Encarnacion
What he's been doing this year would be illegal in about five states in our union. Thankfully those places don't have major league baseball teams so he's free to continue doing dirty, disgusting things to baseballs. What's a little crazy is E5's early stats don't exactly look like he's running hot. They just look like he's an awesome hitter. None of his metrics are too terribly out of line with his career averages. Not even the Hr/FB rate, which is nuts considering he has 19 of them already. He's just creating back-of-baseball-card porn. Facing Jaime Garcia should slow that down.

Hits

Guaranteeing hits is a little weird today. Not a ton of options I'm totally in love with.
Jayson Werth
If this game were anywhere but Petco I'd have him up on the total bases list. But the fact that Petco severely depresses power to the right side, it's tough to pick Werth in this situation. But for hits? That's somewhere we can go with Werth's splits. Which are crazy insane. Werth is one of the best hitters in the game against lefties his .447 wOBA and 190 wRC+ tell the story of a guy getting his bat on the ball when southpaws are on the bump. On an odd day for the stat, I'd take him.

Billy Hamilton
He isn't at the top of our list in terms of total hits in this game, but I'm giving him a slight bump because the guys ahead of him all have tough matchups. Our system actually accounts for that side of things so when I skip them it's more an anecdotal thing. I like Billy against Buchanan today because the latter doesn't accumulate many strikeouts meaning Hamilton should be able to get the bat on the ball and reach base.

Strikeouts

Chasing K's is a little weird today. One big guy, Kershaw, isn't really a favorite to rack up a ton of strikeouts. Not to say you shouldn't play either him, but he just has a tough matchup against a team that doesn't K a bunch in a hitter's park.

Felix Hernandez
He ranks real high in our system in K's today, but it isn't without some trepidation. And he isn't the leader by a mile. One of the reasons is the Rays really don't strike out very much. Only 17% of time which really kills King Felix's upside. I don't think I'd shoot for the 9K slot with him. I'd shoot more for 7 and even that seems like a stretch. I'd shoot upside on the highest slot and then work down for safety. Because Felix would have to but in a total stud effort to get nine K's today.

C.J. Wilson
The White Sox strikeout about 24% of the time against lefties, making Wilson a decent upside play. C.J. isn't exactly lights out and can get into trouble from time to time. But it remains that the Pale Hose don't make a ton of contact and really rack up the swings and misses. This is a guy worth shooting out there on upside because he could rack up big numbers. Worth it to note that I do think his floor is low because the walks kill him. Risk/ reward here.
