Daily Fantasy Soccer Picks for English Premier League - DraftKings 3/5/16

Editor's note: Welcome Rob Banner who'll be covering Soccer (Football to all you Non-Americans) for us. Really excited to have him on board and you can give him a Twitter follow @RobBanner_

In midweek each side in the top four failed to win which has made this Premier League campaign even more exciting. This season’s surprise package, Leicester City are three points clear at the top of the League and they are followed by North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal who face each other on Saturday. This weekend’s results could potentially have a huge impact on the League standings and Saturday’s EPL slate should make watching the action even more entertaining.

    Goalkeepers

    Artur Boruc – DK 3,500
    Opponent – Newcastle United
At just $3,500, Artur Boruc is my goalkeeper of choice for Saturday’s EPL slate. The Bournemouth keeper comes into this fixture off the back of scoring 12 and 7 points against Southampton and Watford. Boruc faces the slightly easier task of Newcastle United this weekend who’ve only scored 27 goals all season, only Aston Villa have scored fewer. Goalkeepers receive five points for a clean sheet and five for a victory and you wouldn’t put these past Bournemouth who are coming into this match full of confidence after beating Southampton 2-0.

    Joe Hart – DK 4,500
    Opponent – Aston Villa
Joe Hart is a slightly more pricey option than Artur Boruc but there’s good reason for that. First of all, he’s averaged a respectable 7.1 points per game and we’d expect him to outscore his average against Aston Villa who sit bottom of the Premier League table. As I mentioned above, goalkeeper receive five points for a clean sheet and another five for a victory, both of which are likely to happen. According to the bookmakers odds, Manchester City have a 83.33% chance of beating Aston Villa and a 58% chance of keeping a clean sheet, thus making Joe Hart a good goalkeeping option.

    Defenders

    Charlie Daniels – DK 4,200
    Opponent – Newcastle United
Charlie Daniels has been superb for Bournemouth this campaign and should be in the frame for an England call up in my opinion. Daniels has also been superb from a point-scoring point of view, he’s averaged an impressive 9.7 points per game and thus warranting his $4,200 price tag. He’s an attacking full back who has delivered 98 crosses this season and this has played a big part in his consistently high point-scoring. Finally, defenders receive three points if they keep a clean sheet and Bournemouth face Newcastle, who are a poor side going forward as I’ve already alluded to above.

    Ryan Bertrand – DK 3,900
    Opponent – Sunderland
Like Charlie Daniels, Ryan Bertand is an English full back who has consistently scored well on DraftKings. The Englishman has averaged 7.7 points per game this season and I suspect he’ll outscore his average against a very poor Sunderland side. Sunderland are 17th in the League table and Betrand should get plenty of opportunities to get forward. There’s also a good chance that the Southampton full back will receive three points for keeping a clean sheet as Southampton are a very good side defensively, whereas Sunderland are not prolific goalscorers.

    Midfielders

    Aaron Lennon – DK 3,400
    Opponent – West Ham United
Everton winger, Aaron Lennon has forced his way into the side and has now started four consecutive Premier League matches. In these four matches he’s scored 65 points and has scored three goals in that period of time, therefore he’s definitely got the potential to be a big point-scorer in Saturday’s slate. Furthermore, Lennon often crosses the ball and as West Ham are difficult to break down, it’d be no surprise to see Lennon score points courtesy of some crosses. At just $3,400 for a player who has averaged 16.25 points per game in his last four matches, Lennon is a must have in your team at that price if he starts.

    Max Gradel– DK 4,100
    Opponent – Newcastle United
Max Gradel has spent the majority of this season out injured, however he’s returned and is likely to start his third consecutive game this weekend. Gradel has only started five matches all season due to injury, although in each of those fixtures he’s scored over 10 points, which indicates he’s potentially a very good point-scorer. In mid-week against Southampton he scored 17 points and this weekend Gradel faces Newcastle at St. James’ Park where he’ll inevitably provide a big threat for the Cherries against an average team.

    Forwards

    Sergio Aguero – DK 8,600
    Opponent – Aston Villa
The best striker in the Premier League faces the worst team in the Premier League and Sergio Aguero will surely have multiple chances to score in this slate. Aston Villa have conceded 51 goals already this season and eleven of those have come in their last three matches, therefore this is a match you’d expect Aguero to score in. The Argentine international has scored 14 goals in 20 Premier League appearances this season and only Jamie Vardy has averaged more points per game than Aguero of the strikers available in this slate. At $8,600, Sergio Aguero admittedly may be a little pricey, however you’re putting yourself at a big disadvantage by not including him in my opinion.

    Graziano Pelle – DK 4,700
    Opponent – Sunderland
Charlie Austin has been ruled out injured for Southampton and that means Graziano Pelle is likely to return to the starting 11. The Italian international hasn’t started many games recently and thus has made his point per game score look not so impressive, although he’s still averaging 7.7 points per game this season. Southampton are at home against Sunderland on Saturday and Sam Allardyce’s side have the worst defensive record in the League, therefore Pelle will inevitably have a few opportunities to score. This making the Southampton forward an enticing proposition at just $4,700 in Saturday’s slate.

    Utilities

    Marc Albrighton – DK 6,800
    Opponent – Watford
Marc Albrighton has been outstanding for DraftKing managers in recent slates and his consistency warrants a place in my side despite being slightly pricey at $6,800. Albrighton has averaged a very impressive 13.8 points per game this campaign and this makes him one of the highest scoring midfielders this season. The Englishman’s high point scoring has been down to the number of crosses he’s sent into the box. Albrighton has made 221 crosses in 28 appearances for Leicester, therefore it’s quite obvious why he’s been such a high point-scorer this campaign. Albrighton will face Watford in Saturday’s slate and they’re a very tough side to breakdown. They’ve only conceded 29 goals this season, that’s fewer than Leicester and I suspect this will result in Albrighton being very involved from the wide areas.

    Manuel Lanzini – DK 3,400
    Opponent – Everton
Manuel Lanzini had a terrific start to the season for West Ham United scoring four goals in his opening 14 matches. Since then he’s struggled with injuries, although he’s now started two consecutive matches and is likely to play 80+ minutes against Everton this weekend. Lanzini has averaged 8.6 points per game this season and has goals in his game, therefore has the potential to be a high point-scorer. West Ham do face tricky opposition in the form of Everton, although they’re far from solid defensively, as a result Lanzini should get a few opportunities in Saturday’s slate.
