Daily Fantasy Basketball Injury News and Updates for FanDuel and DraftKings - 3/5/16

Welcome to the daily updates and injury news article. We'll try and update it right up to line-up locks with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!

Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock tonight.

By the way - we keep our projection system updated with all of the changes as they occur throughout the day right up until lineup lock. Every day. If you want access to that system so you can cut out a lot of the research element, click the button below!

Special Note: Our new optimizer is available! Click the button below to check it out and see if it's right for you.

Now let’s look at some news that’s come in throughout the day to see if anything’s changed in our minds or in the NBA landscape. It's a shorter slate and a light news day, but we'll be updating as stuff rolls in. Also throw out some ideas in the comments and we can take it from there.

What We Know

It was only a rest day for Kevin Love
He got the night off on Friday for some rest though it didn't effect the Cavs in any way as they trounced the Wizards. Love should be back tonight against the Celtics and I love him baseline projection. He's showing up just about everywhere for us and should be for you as well. This is just the right kind of matchup for his skillset. And though I think Brad Stevens will design some ways to attack him defensively, the Cavs can match it on the other end with his offense.

What We're Waiting to Know

Will Jimmy Buckets Return?
It's been a long injury hiatus for the dude and that's given me many of the sads. I love watching this guy play so I'm feeling many of the glads with the thought he might come back. He's trending toward probable at the time of this post so I'd suspect he's a go. That doesn't mean we play the guy though. Even with a moniker like Jimmy Minutes you'd be hard pressed to play a guy coming back after such a long injury absence. Let's ease him back into things and go from there.

Will Solomon Hill start for Myles Turner again?
Hill was somewhat of a surprise play last night and played 30 minutes kind of out of nowhere. Hill was fine enough considering the price though didn't crush it. The thing that makes it interesting is coming at the minimums on both sites and projecting for high 20's minutes definitely puts him in the discussion, especially on DraftKings.

Will Taj Gibson play?
Taj sat out last game and gave way to the Bulls starting Cameron Bairstow (a non factor) and more minutes for Bobby Portis. The latter is intriguing if you thought he'd see run in the higher twenties with Taj on the bench. The Bulls are a little bit of all over the place right and it's tough to really trust any of their situation. Update: Well that didn't take long. Gibson will play tonight.

The "Every Lineup" Guys

LeBron James - FD 9800 DK 9800
Opponent - BOS
FD Proj. Pts - 48.16 DK Proj. Pts - 50.18
Kevin Love - FD 7000 DK 7000
Opponent - BOS
FD Proj. Pts - 36.75 DK Proj. Pts - 39.45
These guys are showing up just about everywhere in lineups and it makes sense. The Cavs have one of the highest expected totals on the day. Boston's allowed well above average production to both the power forward and small forwards this season and these guys have somewhat depressed prices thanks to Cleveland getting involved in blowouts of late. I'd be shocked if these guys weren't in all of my lineups today at least on FanDuel.

Shelvin Mack - FD 3500 DK 4100
Opponent - NOP
FD Proj. Pts - 20.78 DK Proj. Pts - 22.35
Ugh, believe me I feel the same way as you. Mack is the opposite of a safe play. Even when he gets minutes the production can leave you severely wanting. Which is a nice way to put it. Our system draws on mean performance based on projected minutes. Per minute averages have Mack as a beast. But those performances are wildly skewed. I can understand why one would be hesitant though last night he did roll a 12/5/8 at the minimums.

These are guys that seem to show up in all of the top lineups in our lineup optimizer. Enjoy!

  1. How do you guys feel about this lineup? FD tournament
    J. Wall
    R. Rubio
    Z. Lavine
    A. Afflalo
    P. George
    K. Leonard
    M. Morris
    G. Dieng
    I. Mahinmi

  2. You have 3 MIN players and none named KAT. I see that as a bad thing. If your going to stack Minnesota players I would get him in there. Just a thought. Also I really like more of an even lineup today vs. the did and studs. Or maybe one high and one punt to get KAT IN THERE. Are you playing tourney or 50/50 that also makes a difference I like guys with higher floors for 50/50 as you don’t need 1st place to win..

  3. Hey Dough, any thoughts on this lineup ?
    Jackson
    Rubio
    Lavine
    Ellis
    George
    Harris
    Young
    Love
    Gobert

  4. Jake I made a lineup that I’m using tonight for FD. It has KAT in it and there are many variations between the point and shooting guard to keep you in that range. Also used some of the info provided to us by DFSR.

    PG Isaiah Thomas
    PG Norris Cole
    SG Kyle Korver
    SG Eric Gordon
    SF Tobias Harris
    SF Lebron James
    PF Kevin Love
    PF Jared Sullinger
    C Karl Anthony Towns

I like these guys all play a lot of minutes all have a good floor and cole is going up against Shane Mack and holiday against whoever is their backup. I actually love both Pelicans guards today. But had the cavs stacked with their competition and a few good floor guys no one too cheap.

  5. Quick question. Model loves danny green tonight. Manu looks like a go. Is the model assuming he is out ot playing

    • Just modified the projection to account for this more directly. Probably moves Green out of consideration.

  6. Millsap Portis or LA Gibson or Love Morris or Love Turner?
Leaning Millsap Portis or LA Gibson mostly.

    Thoughts?

  7. What do you guys recommend as a good strategy for cashing in tourneys. I always seem to end up in the lowest portion of in the money. Any advice to break out and hit it bigger. Not necessarily win but try to get up in the top 25 percentile

  8. Is smith cash game worthy now that porzingas is out ? Your top 5 DK lineups have George on them. Would it be that bad to switch to James and take the other alternative that your optimizer suggests James?

  9. Porzingiz out. How do folks think this affects the Knicks? Lopez now appealing?

  10. DK lineup:
    Beverley
    Harden
    George
    Love
    Horford
    Mack
    Williams
    Marc Morris

I know the system is not in love with Harden today in perms of pts/dolalr but he has been incredibly consistent (take out SA game) in his past 10. Thoughts on rolling him out tonight?

  11. Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young out!

  12. Oh boy fan duel lineup needs adjusting I had young all over the place. System loved him

    • Yep, just updated it. Bumping up Markel Brown, and Thomas Robinson. No idea exactly how this is going to play out, but Brooklyn could lose by 70 points tonight without Lopez and Young. I’m going to be cautious on both sides of that for cash games outside of the bare min price guys.

  13. Duncan, Aldridge, Green out – making changes now.

  14. Holy jeepers. Any Spurs in play. Leonard a must?

  15. Wow, needed a few more minutes to digest all that info.

  16. KAT & George Hill or Lavine & Horford/Jordan? For cash games

  17. So apparently I can never eat dinner from 6:30 to 7:02 again. Thanks a million, Pop,

  18. I’m done with Spurs! Screwed again!!

  19. Drat. Set my lineup before the Nets news. Probably not a winning lineup without one or both those guys. 80+fp for 7100. Crazy!
