Daily Fantasy MLB Baseball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 6/29/16

Welcome to another Hump Day edition of our daily fantasy baseball picks. Today we have a split slate with seven early games and eight evening games. If you want to get your Coors on be sure to play the early only or all day slate. I would not recommend fading the game as there have been over 95 runs scored during the Rockies last six games. Coors will do do what Coors does!

PITCHER

Early Slate

David PriceDavid Price FD 10800 DK 11700
Opponent - TB (Moore) Park - @TB
FD - 39.89 DK - 26.37

The pitchers in the early slate are an ugly mess with just one option standing out. David Price has been on a roller coaster ride this season despite a decent 8-4 record. His ERA is inflated(4.68) due to five starts where he has allowed five earned runs or more and is giving up long balls at a career high rate of 15.6%. On the plus side he has nine starts where he has allowed two or fewer earned runs and has an impressive 9.71 K/9 rate and a xFIP of 3.32 on the season. While the matchup isn't ideal with the Rays ranking 1st in wOBA vs. left handed pitching, they strike out 23% of the time and Price is receiving a positive park shift from Fenway Park to Tropicana Field.

Evening Slate

Max ScherzerMax Scherzer FD 11800 DK 13500
Opponent - NYM (Verrett) Park - @WSH
FD - 43.14 DK - 28.38

The evening slate is a little more safe but you are going to have to pay up for that safety. Scherzer hasn't been on the same wild roller coaster as Price, just a smaller version. Every four or five start he he just doesn't seem to have his stuff and struggles. Last start was just that as he gave up five earned runs on two long balls to the Brewers. He still struck out 10 batters to salvage some fantasy points. Outside of those off starts he has been incredible with a high 11.57 K/9 rate and 3.22 xFIP. The matchup is also decent as the Mets rank 20th in wOBA and strikeout 23% of the time and have scored the 2nd least amount of runs in the National League.

Jake PeavyJake Peavy FD 7200 DK 6600
Opponent - OAK (Manaea) Park - @OAK
FD - 26.04 DK - 16.96

I wrote up Peavy last Friday and while the strikeouts were lacking(4) he still paid off his low salary on both site with 39 FanDuel points and 18.2 DraftKings points. The price is in the same range tonight making him a terrific second pitcher on DraftKings or stand alone pitcher in GPP's on FanDuel. In his last eight starts Peavy has picked up just three wins but has limited opponents to 2 ER or less in six of those games. The Giants should come in as road favorites as they face the Athletics who sit 10 games under .500(not counting game in progress) and rank 23rd in runs scored and 27th in wOBA vs. right handed pitchers. He isn't the safest option as it is still Jake Peavy but its hard to avoid the great value in tournaments.

CATCHER

Early Slate

Willson ContrerasWillson Contreras FD 3100 DK 4200
Opponent - CIN (Reed) Park - @CIN
FD - 11.36 DK - 8.97

He got a well deserved night off on Tuesday after an excellent start to his career. He has recorded a hit in eight of his first nine games with three home runs and an impressive .370/.485/.741 slash line. The Cubs are committed to getting him at bats as in those nine game she has already played three different positions. He has also been hitting in prime spots in the order with three starts in the five hole, three starts at cleanup and two starts in the six hole. At his current price he is safe in all formats.

Evening Slate

Brian McCannBrian McCann FD 3100 DK 3100
Opponent - TEX (Martinez) Park - @NYY
FD - 10.58 DK - 7.95

He has been a boom or bust option this season and makes nice matchup play vs. a weaker right handed pitcher in lefty friendly Yankee stadium. He has been better as of late hitting .258 with two home runs in the last two weeks and gets a pretty good matchup. Martin Perez comes into this matchup with a winning record(7-4) despite having a BB rate(3.82 BB/9) that is almost higher than his strikeout rate(4.38 K/9). His 3.44 ERA is also better than the 4.91 xFIP suggesting he could be and should be due for regression. He has been too inconsistent ot trust in cash games but makes a high upside play in GPP formats, especially on DraftKings where the value is at its best.

FIRST BASE

Early Slate

Miguel CabreraMiguel Cabrera FD 3500 DK 4600
Opponent - MIA (Koehler) Park - @DET
FD - 13.77 DK - 10.47

He was recommended last night and paid off on one hit which happened to be a three run homer. He gets another great matchup today vs. Tom Koehler and his awful 4.93 BB/9 and 4.82 xFIP. Miggy has been one of the best hitters in the league throughout his career and you get him at a big discount from the top options. He is safe in all formats today.

Evening Slate

Matt AdamsMatt Adams FD 3100 DK 4100
Opponent - KC (Volquez) Park - @STL
FD - 11.45 DK - 8.84

In the evening slate Matt Adams and the Cardinals make great plays at affordable prices both sites. He hits in the five hole for the Cardinals but rarely gets the love he deserves. He struggled a bit to start June but seems to have turned it around with hits in two straight including a 2 for 3 night on Tuesday with a RBI. Going into Tuesday he had a slash line of .298/.349/.528 with an impressive 134 wRC+ and already has nine long balls on the season. You are going to read more about the Cardinals coming up as they get a terrific matchup vs. Edinson Volquez who has surrendered 16 earned runs in his last two starts with just six strikeouts and three walks.

SECOND BASE

Early Slate

Devon TravisDevon Travis FD 4100 DK 4700
Opponent - COL (Anderson) Park - @COL
FD - 14.36 DK - 11.41

We made it all the way to second base before seeing a Coors Field pick. Travis has been red hot over the last two weeks hitting .429 with four home runs and a crazy high 244 wRC+. He has recorded multiple hits in seven of those 11 games and has only struck out 6.8% of the time. He has received some added value lately as he has spent six of the last seven games hitting out of the one or two hole for the Jays. Load up on Coors once again.

Evening Slate

Starlin CastroStarlin Castro FD 2600 DK 3500
Opponent - TEX (Martinez) Park - @NYY
FD - 9.14 DK - 7.27

This is a great spot to plug in some low end value to fit Scherzer in your lineups. Castro has been providing some added power this season with 10 home runs after his previous career high has been 14 in six season with the Cubs. He does strike out over 17% of the time but that shouldn't be an issue on Wednesday as the Yankees will face Nick Martinez and his pathetic 3.46 K/9 rate and 4.85 BB/9 rate. This has resulted in a 5.54 ERA and even worse 6.59 xFIP and teams have been able to cash in with the long ball as he is giving up a 15.4% HR/FB rate. All signs are pointing to the Yankees beating up on the Rangers starting pitcher and Castro provides cheap exposure.

SHORTSTOP

Early Slate

Troy TulowitzkiTroy Tulowitzki FD 3400 DK 4600
Opponent - COL (Anderson) Park - @COL
FD - 13.62 DK - 10.36

As of writing this Tulo has started out the rain delayed game on Tuesday going 0 for 1 and is now hitless in five at bats back in Coors Field. The nerves of returning had to play a factor in the first two game and hopefully he can settle down for the series finale on Wednesday. He has a career .320/.292/.557 slash line at Coors Field playing for the Rockies and strong career splits vs. left handed pitching. After a horrible start, Tulo has seen some positive signs as he is hitting .276 with three home runs and a 155 wRC+ since June 18th. *Update-Tulo just clubbed a bomb to center*

Evening Slate

Tim AndersonTim Anderson FD 2500 DK 3800
Opponent - MIN (Nolasco) Park - @CHW
FD - 9.27 DK - 8.39

The middle infield makes a great place to punt on Wednesday evening if you are wanting to pay up for Scherzer. Anderson has provided tremendous value since being moved into the leadoff spot for the White Sox. He picked up another two hits last night extending his hit streak to five games and he now has hits in 12 of his 14 games while hitting at the top of the order. His best value comes on FanDuel at a mid $2K price tag.

THIRD BASE

Early Slate

Nick CastellanosNick Castellanos FD 2800 DK 3400
Opponent - MIA (Koehler) Park - @DET
FD - 10.92 DK - 8.52

Castellanos was a double away from the cycle last night as he extended his hit streak to three games. He is having an impressive season for the Tigers hitting .302 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and a decent 119 wRC+. He is very affordable on both sites today and makes an excellent tournament option who will be extremely low owned in a decent matchup vs. Tom Koehler and the Marlins.

Evening Slate

Anthony RendonAnthony Rendon FD 2700 DK 3900
Opponent - NYM (Verrett) Park - @WSH
FD - 8.79 DK - 6.98

You definitely do not need to pay up at third base on Wednesday night as Rendon is still a bit under priced for the production he has provided lately. He is red hot with hits in four straight and seven of his last eight games including three multi hit efforts. He will face Logan Verrett of the Mets who has bounced back and forth between the rotation and long relief. He has been much better as a reliever as his last two starts have resulted in 12 earned runs against with just five strikeouts and seven walks. Look for the Nats to get to Verrett early and often making Rendon a great stand alone option or as a part of a stack.

OUTFIELD

Early Slate

Michael SaundersMichael Saunders FD 4000 DK 5200
Opponent - COL (Anderson) Park - @COL
FD - 13.72 DK - 10.65
Ezequiel CarreraEzequiel Carrera FD 3500 DK 4500
Opponent - COL (Anderson) Park - @COL
FD - 11.87 DK - 10.09

Both of these Jays bats are in a great spot once again at Coors Field. Carrera is coming off another multi hit game on Tuesday and has hits in eight of his last ten games with all but one coming from the leadoff spot. He is the more affordable of the two and has the highest floor. If you are looking for power upside get the Canadian kid in your lineup. Saunders is enjoying his first healthy season since 2013 and is making the most of it with a .291 average, 15 home runs and a 146 wRC+. He is currently in the middle of a three game hitless streak but is still slashing .293/.359/.634 in the month of June. I would trust Carrera more for cash games and Saunders more as a GPP play on Wednesday. The idea of fading Coors has been tossed around lately but on the Rockies current homestand over 90 runs have been scored in just six games(average over 15 runs per game). Fade at your own risk!

Evening Slate

Bryce HarperBryce Harper FD 3900 DK 4300
Opponent - NYM (Verrett) Park - @WSH
FD - 13.87 DK - 10.67

The price is slowly rising but there is still room for Harper to crush value, priced under $4K on FanDuel and under $5K on DraftKings. He is coming off back to back multi hit games including his 16th home run of the season in last nights game. The average continues to be a disappointment at .258 but with a BABIP of .257(66 points below his career mark) there is a sign that things will continue to get better, provided teams will pitch to him. As I mentioned with Rendon, the Nats are in a great spot on Wednesday night vs. Logan Verrett who has been awful in his last two spot starts.
Kolten WongKolten Wong FD 2200 DK 3000 (2B)
Opponent - KC (Volquez) Park - @STL
FD - 6.76 DK - 5.56

Wong returned from his demotion to the minors and played all eight games in the outfield. He still qualifies as a 2B on DraftKings but can be found in the OF on FanDuel. He doesn't hit in a great spot in the order but comes in at a terrific price and is riding a four game hit streak. The Cardinals should be able to take care of business in a matchup vs. Edinson Volquez who has fallen off the Earth allowing 16 earned runs in his last two starts. Wong is a great stand alone punt option if you are paying up for Scherzer or as a part of a high upside Cardinals stack.

  1. Contreras played Tuesday. I think he will have the night off tonight.

  2. Curious about when the stacks article comes out

  3. @Matt Ya I see that now. They pulled him late due to extra innings and Montero got a couple at bats. Could be Montero again but who knows. Stay tuned for lineups.

@Dominic Stacks article will be out in awhile. Working on podcast for a bit with Doug.

  4. I am confused. Why is Brian McCann facing Martin Perez tonight while his teammate Starlin Castro faces Nick Martinez?

  5. Contreras is in the lineup batting 4th

  6. Shields is the SP2 for DK lineup. Anybody got the stones to roll with that?

  7. @Joshua Doug mentioned him on podcast and may be the guy with the stones. I will not be.

  8. I can’t believe you did not have Anthony Rizzo in the early line-up, you slept that one

    • Lefty-Lefty matchup. Miggy cheap. Other options as well. Wasn’t a miss there I don’t think

      • Not to mention Rizzo got a gift. Should have been a 4 base error on Duvall which would have put Rizzo at 0-5 and zero rbi. That was a classic little league HR by the scorer.

  9. The optimizer has been on point lately like Curry.

  10. What do Nick Rodriquez and Brian Dozier have in common???

Jose Quintana is their favorite pitcher!!!

Haha couldn’t pass it up! Love the work you guys do though. Would of cashed easily yesterday if Grienke didn’t decide to quit pitching.
