Pitching Targets

I mentioned Jose Fernandez, Johnny Cueto and David Price in the main picks article. Make sure to check out that article for explanations on those guys as well as 3 guys to target at every other position.

Jacob deGromJacob deGrom FD 10400 DK 10300
Opponent - COL (Anderson) Park - @NYM
FD - 38.21 DK - 25.1

Jacob DeGrom is going to be the early slate lock ad load and you really don't have any other option. The other 3 pitchers are Robbie Ray, Zach Davies and Tyler Anderson, all of which are below average pitchers. DeGrom and the Mets will be taking on a Rockies team that has held the league's second worst wOBA on the road at a putrid .292. They also strikeout at a 23.6% clip and there is really nothing positive to say about this team when they are outside of Coors Field. DeGrom on the other hand, has been dominantly lately against both lefties and righties and there is no sign of him slowing down. On the early slate, do not be cute and fade DeGrom. Plug him in.

Aaron NolaAaron Nola FD 8000 DK 8400
Opponent - ATL (Wisler) Park - @ATL
FD - 30.37 DK - 19.77

Nola comes in a bit cheaper and a lack of upside definitely comes with the discount. That being said, there is a ton of safety in this match up. While the Braves don't strikeout a ton against righties, they are one of the worst teams in the league and lack the ability to hit home runs and string together hits as a team. The game will be played in Turner Field, which comes in as a bottom 10 ballpark in the league for left handed batters. While Nola is a righty, he has actually been better against lefties on the season. In 49.1 innings, he ha sported a .297 wOBA to go along with a 29.5% hard contact rate and a 17.3% line drive rate. While he is not recommended for tournaments, he makes for a very SP2 on a site like DraftKings at only $8400.

John LackeyJohn Lackey FD 8600 DK 10100
Opponent - CHW (Sale) Park - @CHC
FD - 34.54 DK - 22.45

While Lackey comes in way too expensive on DraftKings, he comes in at a very fair price of $8600 on FanDuel. While lackey has had some troubles this year, his peripherals point to him being the same guy as always and I expect him to have some solid starts very soon. Lackey and Hammel are very similar pitchers and Hammel showed how easy it is to have a good game against this horrible White Sox lineup. While the high priced guys are in very good match-ups, I do think there is a merit to playing Lackey in tournaments as he will be very low owned and has a ton of upside. While he does struggle against lefties, the big bats are right handed in the White Sox lineup which gives me some confidence that he will be able to minimize their power. While I could of recommended Chris Sale here for the upside, I am going to look at the opposition in John lackey and take a "cut" at a tournament or two.
