Stack Targets

Baltimore Orioles vs. Shelby Miller (Diamondbacks)
Park - Oriole Park at Camden Yards

If you read the main article for today you probably guessed who who lead off the stacks article. It may seem crazy as they just finished losing four straight but it was to the Red Sox who have won eight straight and look unstoppable going into the playoffs. Speaking of playoffs the Orioles are now sitting on the outside looking in at the wildcard as they are a .5 game behind the Tigers. Expect all hands on deck Friday night as they face the Diamondbacks who have baseballs worst team ERA(5.19) in 2016. The bats haven't been an issue with Baltimore as they sit 11th in overall runs scored(706) and rank 3rd in wOBA(.336) and wRC+(107) against right handed pitching. They have a stacked lineup giving us plenty of options today in a game where they are heavily favored(-170) in the highest projected total of the day.

Elite Options - Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo, Chris Davis, Adam Jones
Value Options - Pedro Alvarez, Hyun-Soo Kim, Matt Wieters

Cleveland Indians vs. Miguel Gonzalez (White Sox)
Park - Progressive Field

The Indians are another team that have crushed right handed pitching this season as they sit 6th in wOBA(.329) and 7th in wRC+(103). They get a great matchup vs. Miguel Gonzalez who has seen the K rate fall off the table in September striking out just 4.5 batters per nine and even while he has put up a 2.70 ERA in that time, is due for regression with a 5.42 xFIP. Not only does he not strike many out he is also only producing a 31.8% ground ball rate. The Indians hold the best home record in baseball and should be able to tee of Friday night.

Elite Options - Carlos Santana, Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, Mike Napoli
Value Options - Jose Ramirez, Tyler Naquin, Lonnie Chisenhall

Seattle Mariners vs. Kyle Gibson (Twins)
Park - Target Field

This matchup is a tale of two teams who went completely in opposite directions this season. The Twins hold the leagues worst record while the Mariners are in a dog fight for the American League wildcard with six teams within four games of each other.  Even in a one of worst parks the Mariners have scored the 8th most runs(714) this season and rank 4th in wRC+(107) and 11th in wOBA(.319) against right handed pitching. They face a a pitcher in Kyle Gibson who has struggled mightily since the beginning of August with 4.97 xFIP, low K rate(5.68 K/9), and high 17.7% HR/FB rate. He has also struggled more against left handed pitching giving up a .386 wOBA and 33% hard contact rate which works right into the Mariners hands as they can load the lineup with lefty power.

Elite Options - Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager
Value Options - Seth Smith, Adam Lind, Norichika Aoki

  1. The Orioles are at home against the D-Backs.

  2. That’s probably why it says, Park: Camden Yards right above the write up yo!

  3. Nah. I made a mistake and had it as Chase Field late last night. Thanks @Joshua for pointing it out.
