PITCHER

Julio TeheranJulio Teheran FD 8200 DK 10100
Opponent - MIA (Fernandez) Park - @MIA
FD - 28.64 DK - 19.42

The pitcher position is absolutely horrible in this main slate. As of writing this, we are not sure if it will be Fernandez or Conley going for the Marlins. If it is Fernandez, he is the top option on the slate and it is not close at all. However, if you're forced to go elsewhere, Teheran has to be the guy. He has been dominant against righties over the course of the season and faces off with a team that struggles against righties. While the Marlins have been decent in terms of power, they strikeout a bunch and can go cold for long stretches of time. Teheran is very cheap on FanDuel and very expensive on DraftKings, so deploy responsibly. I am a fan of him i both cash games and tournaments, though it is more so because of the lack of options. The game will be played in Marlins Park, which is a top 5 ballpark in the league for pitchers. The Marlins will have a tough time here today and I look to take advantage with Teheran.

Joe MusgroveJoe Musgrove FD 7200 DK 7100
Opponent - LAA (Wright) Park - @HOU
FD - 29.15 DK - 19.11

If you are looking for a cheaper guy that is an explosive tournament option, Joe Musgrove is the way to go! Musgrove has been phenomenal since entering the majors, especially against right handers. In over 30 innings, Musgrove has sported a .301 wOBA alongside a 8.97 K/9 and a 3`$ hard contact rate. His opposition, the Angels, are a team that routinely get shut down, but never strikeout a ton and just find a way to get on base. If Musgrove has his "stuff" working tonight, it will be a long game for the Angels. Outside of Trout and Pujols, nobody in that lineup scares me and Musgrove should be able to carve them up. I see merit in using Musgrove in all formats. He is cheap enough and has plenty of upside.

CATCHER

Victor MartinezVictor Martinez FD 3600 DK 3800
Opponent - KC (Volquez) Park - @DET
FD - 11.52 DK - 8.81

Victor Martinez is the first bat we are going to take a look at tonight. While he is only a catcher on FanDuel, I like him over on DraftKings at 1st. V-Mart and the Tigers will be taking on Edinson Volquez, a right handed veteran that has hit a wall this year. Against lefties, Volquez has sported a .340 wOBA that is backed up by some horrible peripherals and batted ball rates. Martinez hits righties extremely well and will look to have a big game tonight. Comerica Park is definitely tough for hitters, but Martinez and most of these Tigers are not power reliant. Martinez is a stellar option in both cash games and tournaments.

Evan GattisEvan Gattis FD 3000 DK 4200
Opponent - LAA (Wright) Park - @HOU
FD - 10.69 DK - 8.08

The Astros come in as one of our top 3 offenses tonight against Daniel Wright. Daniel Wright. That is all I should have to say. Daniel Wright is likely the worst pitcher on this slate and I have no clue how he still has a starting gig. He has sported a +.400 wOBA against both sides of the plate and his peripherals seem to be in check with his baseline stats. Gattis on the other hand, has a ton of power and has hit righties well. It is as simple as that. The ballpark is also in his favor, as the Crawford boxes can sometimes cause a huge different in whether or not something is a home run. Gattis is more of a tournament play for me, but I do see the merit in changing it up.

FIRST BASE

Joey VottoJoey Votto FD 4100 DK 5200
Opponent - MIL (Peralta) Park - @MIL
FD - 11.21 DK - 8.59

Joey Votto is right up there with Manny Machado as my favorite pick on this slate. Votto and the Reds are facing off with Wily Peralta, a right hander that is going to challenge Daniel Wright as the worst pitcher on the slate. In a hige 100+ game sample size, Peralta has given up a .380 wOBA that is held up by plenty of horrible peripherals. Votto on the other hand, has been one of the better left handed hitters in the league for years now and this season has been no different. The game will be played in Miller Park, which is a top 10 park for left handed power. All in all, Wily Peralta is horrible and Joey Votto is great. Votto is my top option in both cash games and tournaments.

Chris DavisChris Davis FD 3300 DK 4100
Opponent - ARI (Shipley) Park - @BAL
FD - 14.26 DK - 10.66

The Orioles are coming in as our top offense of the slate, and I absolutely agree, along with Las Vegas. The Orioles are projected to score over 5 runs, which is easily the highest on the slate. The O's will be facing off with Braden Shipley, who we will touch on in a bit. For now, just know that he is bad against lefties and gives up a ton of homers. Davis on the other hand, is one of the most explosive bats in the league and has home run potential in every match up, let alone this one. The game will be played in Camden Yards, which is a fantastic park for both lefties and righties. While he is more of a GPP play, I don't mind Davis in cash games if you have other Orioles in there, which you should.

SECOND BASE

Ian KinslerIan Kinsler FD 4000 DK 4500
Opponent - KC (Volquez) Park - @DET
FD - 8.9 DK - 7.18

While the Tigers aren't one of out top 3 offenses, they are close. They are taking on a right hander in Edinson Volquez that has been atrocious against both left handers and right handers. Kinsler on the other hand, has had a great 2016. While he hits lefties much better, his numbers against righties are nothing to scoff at. In over 400 at-bats, Kinsler has sported a .336 wOBA that is held up by a phenomenal 36.4% hard contact rate. Kinsler is hitting the ball hard and it has been finding open grass as of late. I am a fan on Kinsler in both cash games and tournaments. While he is expensive on both sites, he might be worth it as he has a ton of upside and will be low owned because of his price.

Jonathan SchoopJonathan Schoop FD 3000 DK 3600
Opponent - ARI (Shipley) Park - @BAL
FD - 10.85 DK - 8.4

Braden Shipley is not a good pitcher right now, and it is as simple as that. Second base is a tough spot to fill and Schoop has the type of upside you like in tournaments. We will touch on Shipley in a minute, but just know that he struggles mightily against both righties and lefties. Schoop has actually been better against righties and 80% of his homers have came off of the. We will see if he can add another to his total tonight against Shipley and the decent Diamondbacks bullpen. While Kinsler is the preferred guy, I wouldn't blame you for using Schoop in any format.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos CorreaCarlos Correa FD 3600 DK 4800
Opponent - LAA (Wright) Park - @HOU
FD - 12.06 DK - 9.68

Carlos Correa is going to come in as our top shortstop of the night against Daniel Wright. I am not too sure what else to say, but Daniel wright is HORRIBLE. He has 0 strikeout pitches and his most thrown pitch has a .456 wOBA against it. While Correa is very expensive on DraftKings, he is just $3600 and FanDuel and allows you to spend on some other guys. Correa has mashed right handers since entering the majors in 2014. In over 500 at-bats, Correa has sported a .364 wOBA alongside some terrific peripherals and batted ball rates. Correa is the top option in both cash games and tournaments.

Asdrubal CabreraAsdrubal Cabrera FD 3400 DK 4600
Opponent - PHI (Thompson) Park - @NYM
FD - 10.42 DK - 8.14

While this is the first Met I have mentioned here, they are in a pretty good spot against Jake Thompson. Thompson has struggled against lefties and his numbers don't look to be getting any better. Against lefties, Thompson has exhibited a .385 wOBA to go along with some putrid peripherals and batted ball numbers. While Asdrubal Cabrera may not be the most dangerous hitter in the world, he has some power and always finds a way to get involved on offense. While I definitely prefer Correa, Cabrera is a good 1 off to a stack or just a plain tournament option. In cash, you have to go with a higher priced guy that brings some safety.

THIRD BASE

Manny MachadoManny Machado FD 3800 DK 4400
Opponent - ARI (Shipley) Park - @BAL
FD - 13.97 DK - 10.97

Manny Machado is really good. REALLY good. Against righties, Machado has sported a .360 wOBA to go along with some phenomenal peripherals and batted ball rates. Shipley on the other hand, has sported a +.376 combined wOBA against both righties and lefties. I know, horrible. Shipley also gives up the long ball in bulk, so the Orioles should be in for a fun time. Machado is fairly priced on both sites, though he is a better overall play on FanDuel. I will have 100% exposure here as Machado is my top option on this slate and I fully expect him to have huge game. Camden Yards is very friendly to Machado and I look for him to take advantage of the ballpark tonight with a home run.

Evan LongoriaEvan Longoria FD 3400 DK 5000
Opponent - BOS (Rodriguez) Park - @TB
FD - 10.03 DK - 7.66

Evan Longoria against a left hander, yes please. Longoria has been one of the best hitters in the league against lefties for about 8 years, and this season is no different. Longo has sported a +.350 wOBA to go with a spectacular 34.6% hard contact rate and a 23% line drive rate. He will be facing off with the Boston Red Sox and Eduardo Rodriguez. While Rodriguez has been decent, he has struggled against righties and gives up a bunch of homers. I will be rolling with Machado in 100% of my lineups, but Longoria would be the pivot if I was forced to make one.

OUTFIELD

Adam JonesAdam Jones FD 3500 DK 4600
Opponent - ARI (Shipley) Park - @BAL
FD - 13.43 DK - 10.43
Mark TrumboMark Trumbo FD 3400 DK 4800
Opponent - ARI (Shipley) Park - @BAL
FD - 12.26 DK - 9.37

You can throw Hyun-soo Kim in here as well if you desire. Both Jones and Trumbo are priced similarly around the industry, and priced high at that. They are taking on one of the worst pitchers on this slate in Braden Shipley. Shipley has given up a +.370 wOBA to righties and has also given up a ton of homers. Both Jones and Trumbo have sported a +.350 wOBA against lefties since 2014. The ballpark is a huge factor here as both of these guys will be aided by the extreme hitters park that Camden Yards is. If I had to choose 1 of these guys, it would be Trumbo, but it would be close. The Oiroles are a team you will want exposure to and this is a great way to do that.

Adam DuvallAdam Duvall FD 2400 DK 4000
Opponent - MIL (Peralta) Park - @MIL
FD - 9.37 DK - 7.27

Adam Duvall was on fire for a couple months, but has since cooled down. Now that he has cooled down, we can see the real hitter that he is. He is a huge power bat that strikes out a lot and hits a bunch of homers. I expect one of those homers to come tonight against Wily Peralta. Against righties, Peralta has sported a .366 wOBA that is next to a 4.86 xFIP and a 34.9% hard contact rate. The game will be played in Miller Park, which is a top 4 park in the league for right handers. Duvall can be deployed in both cash games and tournaments, though I prefer him in tournaments because of his boom or bust nature.

Jay BruceJay Bruce FD 2900 DK 3200
Opponent - PHI (Thompson) Park - @NYM
FD - 11.07 DK - 8.61

I know, Jay Bruce has been horrible. That is why he is a STRICT GPP ONLY option. I am not willing to trust Jay Bruce in cash games until he starts coming around a little bit. I do think there is a decent chance of some success tonight. As mentioned, Jake Thompson is absolutely atrocious against lefties and struggles keeping the ball in the yard. While Citi Field isn't ideal, Bruce has the power to hit it out anywhere. I am only going to have exposure in tournaments, but I kind of see the merit in paying for him in cash games. He is cheap enough where he doesn't have to go crazy to pay off his salary.

  1. Peralta has been pitching well lately and is a far cry from being the worst pitcher on the slate. He is actually a potential value SP2 today for gpp although I like Gsellman and Cotton more in that spot. The Astros, Orioles and Padres look like the top stacks. I like Nelson Cruz to have a big day today as well.

  2. I’m in total agreement on Peralta today Jerome. He has been a different pitcher ever since getting sent down to minor’s. His fastball velocity has been up since his return and when he’s throwing hard he is a completely different pitcher. He is a great GPP play today,

  3. RIP Jose Fernandez…horrible loss of a bright star.
