Texas Rangers @ Toronto Blue Jays

Pitchers

Match-up - Cole Hamels vs. Marcus Stroman

We are going to start off in Toronto, with the Rangers and Blue Jays facing off in the Rogers Centre. Cole Hamels and Marcus Stroman will face off, and are both guys that have had very productive seasons. That being said, these are tough match ups and I don't expect a clean slate from either of them. However, I think there is some merit in using both of these guys in tournaments. Hamels has the tougher match up of the two, though he has the higher upside as well. The Jays can strikeout a ton and if they are off, Hamels could have a huge game. Stroman on the other hand, is a bit more consistent, but does not have the strikeout upside that Hamels does. This game will likely have the 2nd highest over/under of the day, and because of that, i do not have much interest in either of these guys.

Hitters

While we didn't have too much action going on with the pitchers, the hitters are a different story. Even though both pitchers are aces, they do have troubles on occasion and this could certainly be one. The Blue Jays are a top 5 tea in the league against lefties, with guys like Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson having huge splits. They are also a team that hits better at home, for whatever reason. Jose Bautista and Josh DOnaldson are some of my favorite hitters on the slate, with Tulowitzki and Encarnacion following. I do not have as much interest in the Rangers side of things. Stroman has definitely struggled against lefties, but he rarely gets blown up. For that reason, I prefer a 1 off and would stay away from the stack. Carlos Beltran and Rougned Odor are my two favorite hitters in the lineup.

Washington Nationals @ Los Angeles Dodgers

Pitchers

Match-up - Gio Gonzalez vs. Kenta Maeda

This is a pretty interesting match up, as both of these guys are pretty difficult to figure out. I do have interest in both of these guys, but in very different ways. Kenta Maeda is a very consistent pitcher that rarely has bad games and rarely strikes out more than 7. The Nationals fit that mold well and I do like Maeda in cash games, but not tournaments. Gio Gonzalez on the other hand, is a very inconsistent pitcher that has a ton of upside. He is very frustrating to watch, but has a very high pitch limit and can throw a complete game if he is on. The Dodgers are a team that sported a .304 wOBA against lefties, so Gonzalez does have a very good match up.The Dodgers Stadium is a pitchers park, which will also play into both of these guys performances. In conclusion, Maeda is a decent cash game option and Gio Gonzalez is a great tournament option.

Hitters

I am pretty bored with the hitters in this game. We are looking at a very hard park to hit in, against 2 pitchers that are very tough to hit. However, I think the Dodgers have a chance if Gio has one of his bad games. The Dodgers have a few righties, but are a left handed heavy team. My favorite guys on the Dodgers are Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez, Justin Turner and Howie Kendrick. The Nationals side of things is a lot more bleak for me. While I don't mind a 1 off like Harper or Murphy, the team as a whole does not get me excited. Kenta Maeda is very tough to blow up and will likely give up just a run or two and go 6 or 7 innings. All in all, the Dodgers are a tournament team and the Nationals can be avoided or used as a 1 off team.

Cleveland Indians @ Boston Red Sox

Pitchers

Match-up - Josh Tomlin vs. Clay Buchholz

This is probably one of the only games where I am actually looking to target a bunch of hitters, and am not a fan of the pitching options. Both Tomlin and Buchholz are pitchers that do have upside, but will struggle more often that not. The Red Sox lost both games in Cleveland, and will need to bounce back today if they want to have any chance. Because of that, I have absolutely no interest in Josh Tomlin. Buchholz however, I could see in a large field tournament. He has strikeout upside and can pitch over 100 pitches if he is dealing. That being said, there are better option in the above and below games. Both of these offenses are very potent, and I will definitely have some interest in a ton of these bats, especially from the Red Sox.

Hitters

To be clear, I am not a big narrative guy. I prefer to look at concrete stats and base things off of that more so than if it is someones birthday or they are playing in there hometown. That being said, I think there is something to look at when the Red Sox are down 2-0 in David Ortiz's last season. I expect them to come out strong tonight and have a big game. They will be facing off with Josh Tomlin, a right handed pitcher that is actually a lot worse against other righties. In 97 innings against right handers, Tomlin has given up 22 home runs and has held a .357 wOBA. He is decent against lefties, but struggles with the longball. David Ortiz and Mookie Betts are my favorite plays on the board, but I think you can go a bunch of different ways with the Red Sox. On the Indians side of the ball, I am still excited, though not as much. This is a much win game for the Sox, which means they will be putting there best relievers in the game, which are pretty good. I prefer a 1 off here and would go with a guy like Kipnis or Santana.

Chicago Cubs @ San Francisco Giants

Pitchers

Match-up - Jake Arrieta vs. Madison Bumgarner

Yep, there is definitely some stuff to talk about here. We have the best match up on this slate, Jake Arrieta vs. Madison Bumgarner. The Chicago Cubs vs. San Francisco Giants. The bets team in baseball against the best playoff pitcher in baseball. I will be tuning into this one, and I expect a very fun game, though it will likely be filled with pitching. I love both of these guys for a multitude of reasons, some the same. AT&T Park is the best pitching park in baseball, and this game has the lowest over/under on the slate at 6. While I think most will look towards Bumgarner, I prefer Arrieta. Maddon wants to end this series and get some rest, so he will let Arrieta stay in as long as he is dealing. Bumgarner is definitely a solid option in all formats, solely due to just how good he is in the playoffs. That being said, the Cubs are definitely a team that is going to put him to the test.

Hitters

none. Well, maybe. I am definitely not playing any Giants. I don't see anyone having a good match up against Arrieta, though I doubt he has a clean slate. I do think you can throw out a Kris Bryant or Javier Baez. Both of them have a ton of power and can swipe a bag as well if they get on base. There really is not much to talk about here. Everyone can hit a home run, but you are btter off looking towards a different game.
