Cleveland Indians

The tribe have split their first two games this weekend with the Mariners, just edging past them 4-3 last night. They go for the series win today against rookie Chase De Jong. De Jong was called up when King Felix found himself on the DL and will make his first big league start today. in 4.2 innings out of the bullpen He's allowed 3 runs off of 3 hits and 3 walks, all three runs coming off a George Springer blast. His numbers in the minors don't suggest Seattle should expect much out of him against a team like Cleveland. Last season he had a 3.68 FIP in 25 AA starts, and was up to 5.58 in two AAA starts this season, with less than impressive strikeout rates. Vegas projects the Indians bats for the highest run total of the day and I'd put the top two thirds of their lineup (Carlos Santana, Francisco Lindor, Michael Brantley, Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Ramirez, and Jason Kipnis) clearly in play today. Cleveland is sporting a .326 team wOBA, with a .331 OBP. They've gone long 28 times this season and are walking 10.3% of the time.

St Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals and Reds had the second game of the series postponed yesterday due to weather. Light rain is still in the forecast for today, but you have to think with the early start they're going to do all they can to get today's match in. The Cards won the game Friday night, and will look to close out with another win today against Bronson Arroyo. The 40 year old is 2-2 through his first two starts to the season, allowing 13 runs over his first two starts, and 5 runs over his second two. I suspect the true Arroyo lies somewhere in between. St. Louis rocked him in his 2017 debut for 6 runs, chasing him out after just 4 innings. They'll come at him hard today from the right side of the plate where he's allowing a .451 wOBA to start off the season, which they'll exploit with their preference for right handed arms. Jedd Gyorko is sporting an impressive .457 wOBA against right handers to start the season, with Stephen Piscotty (.349), and Matt Carpenter (.331) right behind him. Gyorko also leads the Cardinals with 4 of their 24 team home runs, tied with Dexter Fowler and Aledmys Diaz. Their 30.9% hard hit rate is fifth in the NL, and they'll need that today to overcome winds blowing in from right at 17 mph.

Baltimore Orioles

I'm putting a lot of faith in Baltimore today. Vegas is giving the Yankees a slight edge to win the final game of the weekend series in which they've put up 26 runs through the first two games, and I've already spotlighted Baltimore pitcher Wade Miley as my tournament pitching play of the day. Now, I want to talk about their bats. Like the Indians, the Orioles will step into the box facing a rookie this afternoon. We have a small sample to go with Jordan Montgomery, though it's slightly more than DeJong. Montgomery has made three big league starts now, and has been rather impressive going as deep as six innings, while limiting opponents to no more than three runs. He is however sporting a 1.5 WHIP walking 3.24 per nine, with a .378 BABIP. We'll look to target the Orioles right handed batters against him today, as the southpaw is rocking a .363 wOBA against right handed bats, and both of his home runs he's allowed have come from the right side of the plate. This places particular appeal on Adam Jones, Joey Rickard, Mark Trumbo, Welington Castillo, and Manny Machado. For good measure I'll even throw a little love to left handed bat Chris Davis.
