Early Slate

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds(Amir Garrett)

On the five-game early slate, it is going to be chalky but tough to fade the Cubs in Wrigley with the wind blowing out over 20 mph again creating an elite hitting environment. The Cubs have won the first two games of the series and scored a combined 16 runs against the Reds and I see much of the same today against Amir Garrett. Outside of Garrett's one start where he fanned 12 Orioles in seven innings, he has been nothing more than an average pitcher. He has shown a below average K rate outside of that game and has multiple games where he has given up two or more home runs. He struck out just seven batters over his last three starts while walking 11 and if that trend continues vs. the Cubs, he will get destroyed today. It is also promising as the Cubs rank much better vs. southpaws this season with a .336 wOBA and 105 wRC+. I recommend a one through four stack for the Cubs with Zobrist, Bryant, Rizzo, and value play Ian Happ who is hitting cleanup once again.

Main Slate

Seattle Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox(Dylan Covey)

On the main slate, I am going to target the Mariners offense despite their being a few better parks for hitting. It has everything to do with the matchup vs. White Sox rookie pitcher Dylan Covey. He jumped straight from AA to the majors from last year to this year and it has been a rocky start so far. In six starts he has put up a 7.98 ERA as he has allowed 26 earned runs in just 29.1 innings and even the 5.29 xFIP suggests it won't get much better for him. Even worse is the 37% hard contact rate against him which has led to Covey giving up multiple home runs in three straight and four of his last five starts. If he continues to run into bats a high rate, he makes an elite target for our stacks in tournaments. Enter the Mariners who rank 8th overall in wOBA(.332) and 5th in wRC+(114) vs. right-handed pitching. Jean Segura leads the league with a .359 average from the leadoff spot and behind him are some power hitting bats in Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager. With Robinson Cano out of the lineup, we can expect to get some value with Ben Gamel who should be hitting back up in the two hole.
