Whether you are pivoting off the big boys on FanDuel for tournaments or looking to go for a balanced approach with the pitcher on DraftKings to load up on bats, James Paxton is a top play to build around. He and the Mariners are currently -150 favorites at home where Paxton has been excellent with a 2.68 ERA backed by a 3.56 xFIP and 10.2 K/9 rate. He also comes into this matchup having scored 30+ FanDuel and 15+ DraftKings points in three straight starts. The matchup is also ideal tonight as he faces an A's team that ranks 28th in wOBA(.287), 27th in wRC+(79), and strikes out 25.7% of the time vs. left-handed pitching. Paxton makes a nice play in all formats.

One strategy to using an elite priced pitcher like Scherzer is to go stars and scrubs at the position which allows you to fit a few more bats into your lineup. Enter German Marquez who comes in right around the $6K mark on both sites due to the matchup at home in Coors. If you can get over the fact the game is played in the best hitters park in the big leagues then you will be fine as Marquez has been a pleasant surprise for the Rockies this season. His ERA is a little inflated due to four games where he gave up four or more earned runs but the surprising part is two of those(the two most recent) came on the road in pitchers parks. He doesn't go deep into games but has held opponents to three or less earned runs in four of his last five starts(three were one earned run against) and also provides some upside with his 8.1 K/9 rate. He is strictly a GPP play tonight.
