There really aren't a whole lot of options on the mound tonight which gives the slate a huge GPP feel right from the start. If you are avoiding the top tier options I have a few other options who make fairly high upside plays given their matchups. It starts with Duffy who gets a terrific matchup vs. the White Sox. Yes, they are better vs. left-handed pitchers but have faded a ton in the second half since trading away Todd Frazier. Over the last 14 days, they have seen their K rate elevate to nearly 27% which should provide a nice boost to Duffy's average K rate(7.8 K/9). Since returning from the DL in early July, he has held opponents to three or less earned runs in five of his seven starts.
While Duffy's upside lies with his matchup vs. the White Sox, Morton's has his own built-in upside with a near elite 9.82 K/9 rate. The other metric that stands out to me as he faces a power upside team is that he has limited opponents overall to a very low 28.5% hard contact rate while allowing just 28% flyballs. This, by no means, paints a picture of safety as the Rangers rank inside the Top 10 in overall run scoring and have been better against right-handed pitchers. The big thing that stands out to me is that over the last 14 days the Rangers have struck out just over 27% of the time.
