Minnesota Twins

We're winding down, with just over a week left in the season, teams have about 10 games to go, while some knew weeks ago that their October calendar was going to be wide open, others are still fighting for their division, or even just the chance to sneak in as a wildcard. We're going to look at three teams tonight that are still fighting for something, and have the opportunity to do so against some questionable pitching. We'll start out with Minnesota. The Twins are in Detroit against the Tigers who already have tee times set for the first week of October. Daniel Norris returns to starting duties for the Tigers after a brief move to the bullpen. Norris has been less than impressive as a starter for Detroit picking up just four wins in 16 starts this season a 5.38 ERA and a 5.04 xFIP which ranks among the worst in the majors. To his credit he doesn't give up a ton of long balls, but a 1.67 WHIP tells us all we need to know about Norris. The Twins are clinging to the last wildcard spot and need every win they can get moving forward. Brian Dozier has been crushing lefties to the tune of a .419 wOBA this season, with five home runs hit this month and should be the center of any Twins stack.

Top stacking options: Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer, Jorge Polanco, Eduardo Escobar

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks most likely will not be winning the west despite the September swoon of the Dodgers who have the division all but wrapped up despite playing so poorly in the final month of the season, but Arizona is still holding on to a solid lead in the top wildcard spot. They'll look to build on the lead with a weekend series at home against the Marlins. Like Daniel Norris above, Conley is just not an impressive pitcher and will be clearly outmatched against the likes of Paul Goldschmidt (.305/.410/.576 slash line) and A.J. Pollock (.363 wOBA vs LHP). Conley brings a 38.1% hard hit rate to Chase Field, and has been giving up home runs like it's his job. The Diamondbacks are projected for the highest run total of the evening and with the wind blowing out to left at a solid clip, it could prove to be a long night for the Marlins lefty.

Top stacking options: Paul Goldschmidt, A.J. Pollock, Chris Iannetta, David Peralta

Tampa Bay Rays

Going a little more contrarian here lets talk about the Rays. Tampa travels into Camden Yards for a weekend set against their division rivals in Baltimore. Both of these teams come into the weekend with similar records, and still a glimmer of hope to pull out a run for that last wild card spot. While both teams are in similar situations I'm focusing on Tampa due to Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez has been just awful this season, with a 6.57 ERA and a 4.49 xFIP that doesn't suggest much better. He's got a 36.5% hard hit rate and is allowing a 20.3% HR/FB rate. At home he's been even worse with a 7.34 ERA and .413 wOBA against and he's been beat up on from both sides of the plate though left handed batters have been especially rough on him holding a .407 wOBA and hitting twice as many home runs. Of course we can't talk about the Rays without mentioning Logan Morrison. Their cleanup hitter has a .365 wOBA against RHP and recently acquired Lucas Duda has hit 25 of his 29 home runs against the split, one more will tie a career high for him. If you're looking for a sneaky stack to separate yourself from the field with plenty of upside, look no further than the Rays.

Top stacking options: Logan Morrison, Lucas Duda, Corey Dickerson, Evan Longoria
