Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/15/17

Welcome back daily fantasy hockey fans. This Friday we get a smaller five-game slate that includes four teams(BUF, NJ, TOR, SJ) playing on back to back nights with three of those teams(BUF, NJ, TOR) also playing their third game in four nights. It is also of note that the Maple Leafs have played all three of those games on the road this week so there could be some fatigue there. Let's jump in and take a look at some of the top plays at each position.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Kari LehtonenKari Lehtonen FD - $7400 DK - $7500
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 15.14 DK - 3.78

The goalie position is a bit tricky tonight as you can see with my two choices but Lehtonen has already been confirmed to start tonight and provides a ton of salary relief on a small slate. He is making his 10th start of the season and has been solid lately winning two straight and has only allowed more than two goals in a game three times all year. The Devils do rank 10th overall in offense but have somewhat fallen off lately averaging just 2.7 goals per game over their last 10 games and should be without their best player, Taylor Hall, once again on Friday.

Martin JonesMartin Jones FD - $8500 DK - $8400
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 15.52 DK - 4.13

I will start off by saying that Jones has not been good lately giving up four or more goals in four straight games while being outplayed big time by backup Aaron Dell. With Dell getting the nod on Thursday night, it will be Jones getting another shot to snap out of the slump tonight and with his recent play and the Sharks on a back to back on the road, this makes him a possible low-owned GPP play. What I do like here is that the Sharks not only rank second overall in defense this season but get a fantastic matchup vs. a struggling Canucks team that has dropped four straight while scoring just five goals and rank 29th overall this season in offense.

CENTERS

Tyler SeguinTyler Seguin FD - $7900 DK - $7800
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 16.27 DK - 4.81

With a smaller slate tonight, we have limited options at the center position so I start off with one of the most consistent players from a cash game perspective. He sits outside the Top 20 in overall points with 28 this season but provides us with an elite floor as he leads all centers with 134 shots on goal and is averaging a whopping 5.4 per game over his last 10. He hasn't been quite as good on the road this year but the Stars get a plus matchup tonight vs. the Devils playing the second of a back to back while ranking in the bottom half of the league in defense. All things considered, Seguin is in play in all formats tonight.

Stack with: Devin Shore, Remi Elie, Jamie Benn(PP)

Dylan LarkinDylan Larkin FD - $5700 DK - $6100
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 10.61 DK - 3.04

There is a ton of risk here as the Red Wings have really struggled lately losing 10 of their last 11 games while scoring just 23 goals(2.1 per game). Larkin, despite a lack of shot volume, shows up as one of the top PTS/$ values at the position tonight for a couple reasons. First of all, he leads the team with 19 assists and 24 points on the season and also gets a plus matchup tonight vs. a Leafs team that is playing the second of a back to back and third game in four nights, all on the road. He is worth a roster spot in all formats tonight with only five games and limited options at the center position.

Stack with: Tomas Tatar, Anthony Mantha

Also Consider: Anze Kopitar(LAK)

WINGERS

Joe PavelskiJoe Pavelski FD - $6800 DK - $6300
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 14.29 DK - 4.16

It has been a very slow start to the season for Pavelski who has just 17 points through his first 29 games but he appears to be heating up. He enters tonight's matchup with points in three straight games including 11 shots on goal and gets a great matchup to keep that streak alive. The Sharks travel to Vancouver to take on a struggling Canucks team that has dropped four straight games while giving up 20 goals against. With the matchup and smaller slate, it seems like a great spot to jam Pavelski into your lineups in all formats.

Stack with: Melker Karlsson, Joe Thornton

Jeff SkinnerJeff Skinner FD - $6200 DK - $6000
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 13.23 DK - 3.85

On a Carolina team that ranks down near the bottom in offense(26th), Skinner isn't going to flash elite upside for tournaments but he has been consistent lately with points in three of his last four games and has tallied eight points in his last 10 games. What I really key in on with Skinner when rostering him is the floor he provides for cash games as he is averaging four shots per game over his last 10 and 3.9 per game on the season. The other thing that stands out tonight is the matchup as the Canes go into Buffalo to face the leagues 28th rank defense that also happens to be playing a second of a back to back and third game in four nights.

Stack with: Derek Ryan, Justin Williams

Also Consider: Evander Kane(BUF)

DEFENSEMEN

Brent BurnsBrent Burns FD - $7100 DK - $7000
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 15.45 DK - 4.71

If you are paying up at the position tonight there is no one better than Brent Burns is really starting to heat up. Going into Thursday night he had recorded 11 points over his last 10 games with 11 blocks and a whopping 40 shots on goal. He continues to lead all defensemen in the shot category this season with 122 which gives him a very high floor for cash games and he carries a ton of upside into tonight's matchup with the struggling Canucks team that has allowed 20 goals against during their current four-game skid.

Noah HanifinNoah Hanifin FD - $3600 DK - $3500
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 8.72 DK - 2.59

On the value end of things, I will be rolling with Noah Hanifin tonight. He has gone pointless in three straight games but has been consistent lately with six points over his last 10 games with a nice combination of shots(23) and blocks(12) which give him a nice floor. He skates on the third pairing for the Canes but also gets time on the second powerplay unit and most importantly comes to us in the mid $3K range on both sites.

Also Consider: Alec Martinez(LAK) for cash games and Joh Klingberg for GPP's
