Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/20/20

Welcome back hockey fans. Before we roll into the weekend, we have a busy Thursday night on the ice with eight games including six of the Top 10 offenses. Let's dig in and take a look at some of my core plays at each position for DraftKings and FanDuel.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington FD - $8400 DK - $8400
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 18.11 DK - 13.21

The Blues go back on track on Tuesday shutting out the Devils at home as Binnington stopped all 17 shots he faced. The shot totals are a little concerning for fantasy but the good news is that he and the Blues get another plus home matchup against the Coyotes who are playing a back to back on the road and third game in four nights while also ranking 26th in road offense on the season. I prefer Binnington in cash games but all things considered, he is viable in all formats.

Mackenzie Blackwood FD - $7600 DK - $7700
Opponent - SJ
Proj Pts FD - 18.66 DK - 13.94

Shot volume is not something we have to worry about with Blackwood as he has faced just shy of 35 shots per game over his last 10. He also comes in scorching hot having won all four starts in February allowing just four goals and has posted a 5-2-2 record with .925 save % in his last 10 starts. He gets to face a very inconsistent Sharks team that has dropped seven of their last 11 games and rank 25th in road offense on the season. Fire him up in all formats.

Also Consider: Braden Holtby(WSH) who is the biggest favorite(-194) on the slate and faces a Habs team that has dropped five straight while scoring just 10 goals

CENTERS

Blake Wheeler FD - $6600 DK - $6100
Opponent - OTT
Proj Pts FD - 16.13 DK - 12.36

At center, I am going to start with Blake Wheeler who gives us a path to a very balanced lineup for cash games. He checks all the boxes tonight as he comes in red hot with 11 points and 33 shots over his last 10 games and has the upside we are looking for with four multi-point efforts in that time as well. The Jets also have a Top 10 offense on the road this season and get a plus matchup vs. the Sens who have given up 3.5 goals per game over their last 10 and rank 28th defensively on the season. Fire up Wheeler in all formats.

Stack with: Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers

Barclay Goodrow FD - $4000 DK - $4100
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 8.44 DK - 6.67

With so many high-end centers in play tonight, we are going to need some value to tie it all together and Barclay Goodrow is on that stands out. The opportunity has been there lately as he is centering the second line and powerplay unit and has averaged just over 19 minutes of ice-time over his last 10 games(16.1 min/game on season). He and the Sharks are on the road tonight but get a plus matchup against the Devils who have given up 17 goals in their last five games and rank 27th defensively on the season.

Stack with: Stefan Noesen, Patrick Marleau

Also Consider: Sidney Crosby(PIT) who has been red-hot(17 points last 10 games) and faces a struggling Leafs defense

 

WINGERS

Brady Tkachuk FD - $6500 DK - $6900
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 16.53 DK - 13.32

I am going to start in the second tier of pricing at the wing position as well as the PTS/$ is going to be tough to pass up tonight. This game has the potential to be very high-scoring and it shows in the Vegas total which is one of just two sitting at 6.5 tonight. I already mentioned the Jets side above with Wheeler and love running it back with a few Sens starting with Tkachuk who provides a very high floor(41 shots last 10, 3.7 per game on season)and has flashed the upside lately with nine points in his last 10. At these prices, he is a core play for me in all formats.

Stack with: Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Anthony Duclair

Zachary Sanford FD - $4900 DK - $4600
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 12.09 DK - 9.14

I talked about the plus matchup for the Blues with Binnington and I also like targeting their offense as well. The theme of this article so far has been PTS/$ value so let's ride with Sanford who has already set career-highs across the board this season with 13 goals and 13 assists and has been playing almost three minutes more per game than his season averages skating on the second line and powerplay unit. The Coyotes are not only playing on a back to back on the road but have lost nine of their last 10 away from Arizona while giving up 3.5 goals per game. Fire up Sanford in all formats.

Stack with: Robert Thomas, David Perron

Also Consider: Alex Iafallo(LAK) as a value play skating top line in a plus matchup vs. Panthers 29th ranked defense

DEFENSEMEN

Alex Pietrangelo FD - $6600 DK - $6800
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 15.9 DK - 12.6

As you can tell by now, I am high on the Blues tonight facing a struggling road team who is also playing on a back to back and third game in four nights. Pietrangelo checks all the boxes and it starts with his floor as he comes in with 7+ combined shots blocks in two of his last three with 52 combined over his last 10 games. He then provides upside with seven points in his last 10 and 47 on the season, fifth among all d-men. If paying up at defense, Pietrangelo is my top target tonight.

David Savard FD - $3500 DK - $3600
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 9.17 DK - 7.38

Savard is a player doesn't provide a ton of upside but really stands out from a PTS/$ perspective in the system and is one of my top cash plays tonight. He hasn't tallied a point in his last 10 games but with a combined 45 shots/blocks, he is averaging 8 DK/7.2 FD points per game in those 10 games. I will take the floor and mid $3K price tag which will allow us to pair multiple mid to top tier players in cash games.

Also Consider: Marcus Petterson(PIT), Colton Parayko(STL), Neil Pionk(WPG)
