Pitchers

Lucas GiolitoLucas Giolito FD 8200 DK 8500
Opponent - OAK (James Kaprielian) Park - OAK
FD - 38.87 DK - 20.74

We’ve got a game in Coors with a run line higher than everywhere else so we are going to want to stack that game as much as possible. That’s going to mean saving some on pitching which, thankfully, is entirely possible on this slate. Giolito is facing off against the second-worst offense in baseball in the A’s as a -162 road favorite. It’s been an up-and-down season for the White Sox righty and he’s had some true blowup games. But he’s still striking out more than a batter per nine, the price is down here and the matchup against Oakland is such a good one.

Noah SyndergaardNoah Syndergaard FD 7900 DK 9900
Opponent - WSH (Patrick Corbin) Park - WSH
FD - 34.9 DK - 17.92

Syndergaard isn’t able to really dial up the K’s anymore which is definitely a bit of a concern when rostering him in cash games. His major superlative here is that he is playing on the Phillies and they are playing the Nationals. Washington has one of the worst offenses in baseball and Thor is coming as the day’s biggest moneyline favorite at -250 in this home game. That really helps on FanDuel where the win is weighted more than DraftKings. Plus, his price there helps fit in some Coors bats. I prefer Giolito because of the K upside but Syndergaard is a fine option too.

Strongly consider Lance McCullers Jr. (FD $8800 DK $9000)

Catcher/First Base

C.J. CronC.J. Cron FD 3700 DK 5200
Opponent - ARI (Zach Davies) Park - ARI
FD - 13.94 DK - 10.48

Like we said, there’s a game in Coors here and the run line is pushing up to 11, a couple of runs higher than the next closest game on this slate. With a run expectation much higher we are going to want to be overweighted on this game. Cron is expensive but is having a fine enough season with a .799 OPS and 26 home runs. He’s better against lefties so I don’t love the reverse platoon here, but he’s also been so, so much better at home on the year.

Carson KellyCarson Kelly FD 2600 DK 3900
Opponent - COL (Germán Márquez) Park - COL
FD - 11.07 DK - 8.31

Carson Kelly moves down in the Diamondbacks’ order but he’s also not all that expensive on FanDuel at $2600. That makes up some for the reduction in plate appearance expectation. He’s running bad on his HR/FB rate this season which has reduced some of the power across the board, but Coors Field is the perfect place to turn something like that around. Again, we want as much exposure to this game as possible.

Second Base

Ketel MarteKetel Marte FD 2800 DK 4500
Opponent - COL (Germán Márquez) Park - COL
FD - 12.72 DK - 9.74

Josh RojasJosh Rojas FD 3400 DK 4800
Opponent - COL (Germán Márquez) Park - COL
FD - 12.81 DK - 9.81

Again, get used to seeing Diamondbacks and Rockies hitters in this writeup and in your lineups for Friday’s MLB slates on DraftKings and FanDuel. Rojas and Marte should hit first and second in the Arizona lineup and that’s about as good a position as one can be in heading into a series in Coors. Rojas brings in a mid-700s OPS and has his fantasy upside more built on speed with 19 stolen bases on the season. He walks at an 11% rate and only strikes out 18% of the time. That’s great news for hitting in this kind of environment where we just want a guy making contact or getting on base.

And then there’s Marte who hasn’t been able to generate the power he had in 2019 (have any of us?) but is still a viable fantasy option here. Like Rojas he doesn’t strike out all that much, and takes his share of walks. He is running about 30 points off his career BABIP which is driving the OPS down, but its’ also keeping that price in check. He’s a lock on FanDuel at sub-$3K and is a deal on DraftKings as well.

Shortstop

Trea TurnerTrea Turner FD 3700 DK 5800
Opponent - SD (Mike Clevinger) Park - SD
FD - 11.53 DK - 8.88

We can’t exclusively play Rockies and Diamondbacks on this slate and neither team has really any shortstop options to choose from confidently. That’s going to led us going elsewhere at this position and Turner is one of the best options there is. On the season he has 19 home runs and 23 stolen bases while putting up an .826 OPS. He’s so tough to strikeout and puts the ball in play right around 75% of the time. I don’t mind him in this matchup against Clevinger and really am looking his way because he’s just such a great fantasy option.

Javier BáezJavier Báez FD 2500 DK 4200
Opponent - KC (Daniel Lynch) Park - KC
FD - 10.94 DK - 8.38

Yes, I know that looking at Javier Baez’s numbers on the season makes you want to puke. But for all of his problems, you should know that they are really only against righties. He’s actually been good against lefties on the season. Baez has an .801 OPS, .349 wOBA, and 131 wRC+ in that split. Those are good numbers against southpaws and I like that we are buying him at a discount here because he’s sucked so, so bad in the other side of the platoon.

Third Base

Ryan McMahonRyan McMahon FD 2800 DK 4800
Opponent - ARI (Zach Davies) Park - ARI
FD - 12.99 DK - 9.82

He’s moved into the leadoff role for the Rockies and that’s where you want to be in this hitting environment. The FanDuel price is a total joke and if he’s in this spot again then there’s no real reason to fade him here. The OPS is cracking .700 and he has 13 home runs on the season but it’s worth noting here that his numbers at home for his career against righties is close to elite with an .849 OPS and .360 wOBA. We’ll take it on both sites but especially FD.

As long as he’s in this spot in the lineup I’m playing McMahon on both sites in the 3B slot. And if you pivot, Josh Rojas is eligible there as well on DraftKings and FanDuel so you are probably just sticking with this game anyway.

Outfield

Daulton VarshoDaulton Varsho FD 3500 DK 4800
Opponent - COL (Germán Márquez) Park - COL
FD - 12.27 DK - 9.34

Jake McCarthyJake McCarthy FD 3500 DK 3700
Opponent - COL (Germán Márquez) Park - COL
FD - 10.66 DK - 8.23

Corbin Carroll FD 3300 DK 2900
Opponent - COL (Germán Márquez) Park - COL
FD - 10.57 DK - 8.07

Charlie BlackmonCharlie Blackmon FD 3100 DK 4800
Opponent - ARI (Zach Davies) Park - ARI
FD - 11.52 DK - 8.83

Is it something of a cop out to just list all of these guys and call it a day? Sure, sort of but it doesn’t mean that it’s incorrect. The Diamondbacks’ and Rockies’ guys are just too enticing here and the prices, in many cases don’t make it all that difficult a decision. Varsho has moved down in the lineup some but is still reasonably priced on both sites and is an above-average bat. Carroll has moved into the middle of the order for Arizona and McCarthy could actually be hitting third which would put his DraftKings price at almost a must-play.

And then there is Blackmon and Grichuk who should hit fourth and fifth in the Rockies order against the righty Davies. Neither is lighting the world on fire this season, but again that’s fine for where they are priced depending on the site. Again, let’s just stack this game and make things easy soon ourselves.
