Hello hockey fans and welcome to another awesome day in the NHL world. It is a small four-game slate, but there is still enough action for us to enjoy. The Detroit Red Wings are the only team playing in back-to-back games. Detroit will also be playing their third game in four nights. Let's get started.
Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. GOALIES
Henrik Lundqvist FD - $8900 DK - $8200
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 18.41 DK - 4.6
King Henrik, as the hockey world calls him. He's not actually a King, so I will call him Lundqvist or Henrik. He's past his prime, but on this four-game slate, we have very few options. Lundqvist is currently the best bet for that all-important victory tonight ( -155 according to Vegas odds,) so we will consider him the safest of the bunch. He survived a not-so-good stretch for a few games and has done quite well in his last three starts. He has recorded wins in all of those games, as well as recording a shutout while allowing only four goals in the process. The Flyers are below average on offense (17th,) but they have shown that they can score goals in bunches at times. All we have here is the fact that we have to trust the Vegas odds. It's a bad night for choosing a cash game goalie, but if you insist on choosing one, then Lundqvist is your safest option.
Frederik Andersen FD - $8800 DK - $7800
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 16.05 DK - 4.01
Hey Frederik, I apologize for calling you Swedish a few weeks ago in one of my articles. The current #1 Leafs' goalie was born and raised in Denmark. I absolutely love this guy's upside tonight. The Maple Leafs travel to Detroit, who lost 4-3 to the Boston Bruins last night. Also, the Red-Wings will be playing in their third game in four nights this evening, so they will be tired. Toronto allows 32.6 shots per game which is the fourth most in the league. Andersen should see a lot of rubber today, but he is coming off of a shutout in his last game. He is never a safe play while playing on the road, but against a tired Detroit squad, he could score a boat load of fantasy points and win you a GPP.
CENTERS
Connor McDavid FD - $8900 DK - $7900
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 16.84 DK - 4.76
This was an easy choice for me on this short four-game slate because this guy is simply awesome. The NHL's current points leader is currently on a four-game point streak. During that streak, he has two goals, four assists and 12 shots on goal. Anaheim is a good defensive team, as they are ranked sixth in that category. So what we have here is what I call a must play today, but it's based on the fact that it is a short slate. I am going to keep this very simple. I am not going to fade this guy today and I wouldn't either if I were you. Lock him into your lineups in all formats and build your roster from there.
Stack With: Leon Draisitl, Patrick Maroon
Tyler Bozak FD - $6000 DK - $5100
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 11.93 DK - 3.6
Oh brother, the Toronto Maple Leafs are incredibly tough to deal with from a DFS perspective. They spread their ice time around so much, which makes it difficult to pick and choose which players to use on a daily basis. But when the matchup is too juicy to ignore, then we must get exposure to them in some way. Enter Bozak who plays on the #1 line, but we don't actually know which line is which in Toronto. So then as we dig deeper, we find something intriguing. Bozak is a power-play specialist. He has ten points in his last nine games with eight on them coming via the power-play. The Leafs own the league's third best power-play unit and Detroit's penalty kill unit is ranked 20th. He doesn't shoot the puck a lot, but because this is such a short slate today, I believe that means he makes a decent play in cash games. Where he makes a great play today is in GPP's while stacking him with his PP linemates.

WINGERS
Mats Zuccarello FD - $6700 DK - $6600
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 11.67 DK - 3.7
Here we have another frustrating team from a DFS perspective, but this one was an easy choice for me today. The Rangers play the Flyers who allow the third-most goals in the league per game (3.13.) The veteran from Norway is on a six-game point streak with a goal, seven assists and a whopping 25 shots on goal. The Rangers also spread their ice time around a ton, but this guy is a major exception. In those last six games, Zuccarello has averaged just under 20 minutes of ice time per game. He plays on the #1 line and #1 power-play unit in New York and he is my favorite all-around play in all formats today.
Stack with: Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan
Corey Perry FD - $6800 DK - $6300
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 12.33 DK - 4.07
Isn't it neat how every single NHL slate is different from a strategy perspective in some way? Today we have very little value at the bottom end, and a few high-end guys don't stand out. But we do have some mid-ranged guys who make decent plays. Corey Perry is one of them. He has a goal, an assist and eight shots on goal in his last two games. The Oilers are ranked right at the league average on defense, as well as on the penalty kill. Perry is a safe play today and he always has huge upside, as he plays alongside Ryan Getzlaf.
Stack with: Ryan Getzlaf, Rikard Rakell

DEFENSEMEN
Ivan Provorov FD - $4800 DK - $4700
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 10.37 DK - 3.14
This guy is turning into a star player for the Flyers and he is only a rookie. He has been a DFSR favorite and as long as his prices stay this low, then he will continue to show up here. I know I recommended Lundqvist as the safest goalie tonight, but it is a short slate and I still believe that the Flyers will score a couple of goals here. Provorov has a goal, an assist, 11 shots on goal and three blocked shots in his last two games. That's impressive. So even if the flyers don't score tonight, this guy should still bring value with his peripheral stats. The young Russian is my favorite defenseman tonight and our system loves him from a PTS/$ perspective.
Also Consider: Oscar Klefbom
