Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 6/13/14

DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. Gone is the salary finagling, mixing and matching, and hair-pulling that goes into setting lineups. ScoreStreak simplifies the process in an easy-to-use interface. Employing a prop-pick style, ScoresStreak leagues are specific outcome dependent with three categories: Total Bases, Hits, and for pitchers, Strikeouts.

Total Bases

David Ortiz

We said it last night, we'll say it again:

Our system has David Ortiz ranked as far and away the #1 option for total bases tonight, and for good reason. Since 2013, Ortiz has a .417 wOBA and .285 ISO vs. right-handed pitchers. In this game, he goes from Josh Tomlin to Justin Masterson. While Masterson has the better reputation, he's actually a fair spot worse against left handed pitching - and hitting at home, Papi absolutely has a chance to get a hold of one and top the total bases category.

Miguel Cabrera

I was tempted to go elsewhere for this selection, but this one is bolstered by Miggy's ability to hit for both power and average. He'll 100% put balls in play against Gibson, and given Gibson's lack of any true quality offering, I'm going to guess he puts one in play even harder than usual. Maybe more than one.

Hits

Robinson Cano

Enough was said last night about Cano's hitting ability vs. right-handed pitchers that I don't need to repeat myself, so I'll just quote it instead:

Cano has made a living hitting vs. right-handed pitchers, especially right-handed pitchers like Chase Whitley, who he’ll be facing tomorrow. Since 2013, Cano has a stellar .333 batting average vs. right-handed pitchers. It does come as the result of a fairly high .340 batting average on balls in play, however it’s supported by a very solid 24.7% line drive rate and a very low 10% strikeout rate, so he makes solid contact and puts the ball in play frequently, which is about all you can ask for when it comes to a high-variance category like hits.

Replace Whitley with Nick Tepesch and you have today's pick of the day all explained.

Victor Martinez
No real reason to go crazy breaking this one down for you. Martinez doesn't really walk, and Gibson doesn't really strike anyone out. Know what that means? Balls in play. Lots of 'em. Where they fall is always anyone's guess, but this could be a terrific day for V-Mart hits-wise.

Strikeouts

Felix Hernandez

It's a really lousy night for pitcher Ks - which might sound surprising given the headliners today. The reason? The teams they are facing. The Rangers are the 2nd hardest team to strike out in baseball when they're on the road, and while Felix has swing and miss stuff that comes around only a few times per generation, the Rangers just like to put the ball in play. That being said, I still think Felix will have a nice K game, but I'll be very tempted to punt the top Ks slot or take an off-board guy like CJ Wilson and try to get a home run there, and use Felix and the next guy in the 2 and 3 slots.

Clayton Kershaw

Not exactly going out on a limb here - but Kershaw faces the same issue King Felix does. The D-backs just don't really strike out. I'll slide Kershaw in the #3 slot and take the safety and go for the home-run play in Wilson vs. the K-happy Braves tonight.
