Daily Fantasy Basketball Injury News and Updates for FanDuel and DraftKings - 2/10/16

Welcome to the daily updates and injury news article. We'll try and update it right up to line-up locks with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!

Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock tonight.

By the way - we keep our projection system updated with all of the changes as they occur throughout the day right up until lineup lock. Every day. If you want access to that system so you can cut out a lot of the research element, click the button below!

Now let’s look at some news that’s come in throughout the day to see if anything’s changed in our minds or in the NBA landscape.

What We Know

Marc Gasol is out, Zach Randolph and Jeff Green get big bumps
Gasol is out indefinitely with a fractured foot, opening up a gaping hole on both sides of the ball for the Grizzlies. With Gasol off the court this season, Randolph sees a 16% usage bump, and Green sees nearly a 20% usage bump. The wild thing here is that the Grizzlies really have no reasonable back-up big man option. Brandan Wright's injured, and Ryan Hollins is Ryan Hollins. That means Z-Bo, Z-Bo, and more Z-Bo. All in tonight.

Derrick Rose is playing
Rose was a late and unexpected scratch in the Bulls' loss to the Hornets, but appears to be on track to play tonight. This will mean less usage for E'Twaun Moore, and will kill any value Aaron Brooks or Kirk Hinrich had.

Tim Duncan is back
Adios, David West punt plays. Duncan is not usually playable due to the variability of his minutes, and this is no exception on a huge slate tonight.

What We’re Waiting to Know

Tony Parker is questionable
Patty Mills has been an attractive fantasy option when Parker's been out in the past, even when he hasn't gotten the start. It wouldn't shock me at all if Parker missed this game given the long rest of the ASB that's right around the corner.

Ersan Ilyasova is doubtful
Anthony Tolliver played 35 minutes the last time Ilyasova sat, but the man is basically trash from a fantasy perspective. Still, this frees up more shots for Reggie Jackson & Stanley Johnson, whom the system already liked quite a bit.

Tobias Harris - is he playing?
Harris' absence would mean another night that we could consider Evan Fournier, even in a tough match-up with the Spurs. I'd be more hesitant on a guy like Victor Oladipo, whose price is high enough to where any minutes loss could cause big problems. But if Harris is out, Fournier is a very intriguing big tournament play.

Update: Harris missed shoot-around this morning, and I'd lean toward calling him questionable now. Stay tuned.

The "every lineup" guys

Zach Randolph - FD 6300 DK 6500
Opponent - BKN
FD Proj. Pts - 33.32 DK Proj. Pts - 33.94
If you throw in the fact that Z-Bo gets a 16% usage bump and the fact that Brooklyn sucks at post defense, you'll understand why our projection system refuses to let you play anyone except Randolph tonight. Z-Bo in every format for me.

Anthony Davis - FD 10200 DK 9700
Opponent - UTA
FD Proj. Pts - 50.06 DK Proj. Pts - 50.82
Against the Jazz! Here's the thing - Davis just isn't priced the way superstars who put up his numbers are. Curry, Westbrook, Durant - these guys are all 11k, and Davis remains underpriced relative to his production. He's got an increased role with Tyreke out for the season, and plays some of the most consistent minutes in the league. Yes, this is an awful match-up, but Davis did just put up 58 fantasy points against the Spurs. Probably one of those times to be greedy when others are being fearful.

Stanley Johnson - FD 4900 DK 6000
Opponent - DEN
FD Proj. Pts - 26.18 DK Proj. Pts - 28
Johnson is coming off his worst game since moving into the starting lineup, but this is a terrific match-up with the Nuggets, who have allowed the 10th most fantasy points per game to opposing small forwards this season. He's still just too cheap for the huge minutes he plays.

  1. Updates coming throughout the day in the article itself – bolded. Thanks y’all!

  2. Under the Marc Gasol is out update, you listed a bunch of Rockets fyi!

    • Lol! Woops. Left over from a previous version of the article. Fixed it, and sorry!

  3. I am not happy Batum was moved to shooting guard on FD and I have been riding em hard lately.

    • So brutal. Though SG is often a lousy position as well.

  4. Bunch of teams on back to back. Hoping we get some guys sitting to free up some punt plays. Vegas has SA only 8pt fave over Magic. Have to think Pop is sitting someone with that line.

On Batum… almost missed him when I was putting together my initial lineup until I noticed the SG switch.

  5. Tayshaun Prince got permission to head to Chauncy’s jersey retirement in Detroit tonight so might mean Zach starting in Minny.

  6. What big name player is a must start tonight? Harden? Curry? L. James? Trying to plug in lower cost fillers, but having some trouble. Thanks

  7. Hey james thoughts on archie goodwi, harden, and d lil?

    • Hey Jeff – do you have access to our projection system? All the projections for these guys are in there.

  8. SAS game just totally changed with Tim Duncan likely to play, Tony Parker Questionable, Kyle Anderson also playing. I imagine the line will move as well.

    • Yup. Patty Mills is an intriguing option off the bench, and a great option if he’s starting.

  9. What do ya think:
    Lillard
    Ish
    CJ Mc
    J Crawford
    M Morris (Pistons)
    S Johnson
    Brow
    Z Randolph
    Bogut

  10. would you rather play kobe in his last game in cleveland, or oladipo against a tough spurs team? both have the same projection roughly.
also any thoughts on paul pierce going back to boston?
i’m all about narrative street tonight.
    thanks,

  11. Charles… I would start over.

  12. Is Morris a better place than Stanley Johnson I’m draftkings given the price bump Johnson got?

  13. Charles, I like That LU. I personally like the Blazer – Rocket game as Im a Ptown resident. Houston is Road Back to Back and I suspect they will have a chip on their shoulders from just a few days ago when the blazers put a beat down on em. I was mad at myself yesterday for only playing a few Bogut LU’s when I knew He would have big minutes.
My First Iteration for my cash games today is -> Lillard, Ish (can swap rose for ish also), Batum, Belinelli, Jeff Green, Stanley don’t let me down Johnson, Zebo, Myles Turner, Boogie. (projects 283 + ceiling of course) It is still very early and I suspect we will have some late breaking news.

  14. Trying to talk myself out of the emotional play of the day. Kobe vs LBJ one last time in Cleveland. Lakers have played better recently and seem content letting Kobe jack shot after shot. That 15pt spread seems generous.

Will… agree on Blaze/Rocket game. Imagine a lot of guys are going to shoot to the top of some GPPS late with that juicy game.

    • I’m just too worried about the blowout there to really get behind anyone outside of a tournament

  15. Anybody high on Shabazz? Looks like he’s starting for Prince

  16. I have played Shabazz this year even when he was playing off the bench. What I do know is Toronto is very good defensively so I defer to Doug and James. Another thing Im watching is the starting LU for Detroit. Anthony Tolliver (total punt prices for a guy that could very well get 30 plus minutes on the floor. Even with low usage he might stumble into paying off that low salary (Tournament – not safe)

    • I bumped up both Lavine and Shabazz’s minutes. Both spec. I’d trust Lavine a little more if they slid Wiggins over the three.

    • I bumped up both Fournier and Dipo. Fournier looks great on DK. This is a tough matchup, but if Magic can keep it close then the minutes could be through the roof.

  17. One spot left : Elfrid Payton, Matt Barnes, or Tristan Thompson?

  18. Markieff morris Aaron Gordon or mules turner paired with zbo for pf tonight?

    • From a safety perspective I’d go Turner, Gordon, Markieff though from a ceiling perspective I’d probably go the reverse order.

  19. Awesome thank you! Where would you rank Fournier in that group?

  20. Reggie
    Conley
    Lavine
    Moore
    Stanley
    Green
    AD
    zebo
Boogie. Projected at 293.. What yall think?

  21. I like ish smith and Jamal Crawford other than that u and I have same lineup

  22. I finally made it to pre game chat. Anyone mentioned Channing Frye? Min price and Jason Smith and Tobias out.

  23. Thanks Doug so 50/50s you’d go turner over morris even though turner hasn’t crossed the 30pt threshold in 5 or 6 games or whatever it is? Also do you like Jeff green or marcus morris both getting more minutes due to injuries? Thanks!

    • I really like both actually. All three. Tonight there are a million ways to take it. Green is most volatile of bunch though.

  24. Matt Barnes or Johnson? LaVine or Hood?

  25. I like Fournier, Dipo, Lavine and E Moore over both of those guys. But yes, Hood over Avery

    • JERAMI GRANT STARTING FOR NOEL

  26. End the day couldn’t trust Johnson ( DET) didn’t play him the other night either. Price bump makes me nervous and a lot of rookies seem to really hit the wall before the break. Hope he goes off for everyone who does play him. Best of luck to everyone tonight.

  27. Dang, wish the Philly news would have broken a little sooner. Okafor has been pretty good when Noel sits.

  28. \_/ Cheers everyone – That was a crazy bit of news to digest.

  29. –> $ thats the minimal money .. approx 10.00 I had in reggie jackson darts …. #FandDuelsDownside #dead$

  30. Jackson cost me all my lines awesome 729 pm announced

  31. Reggie damn pistons are pieces of shit. Every lineup but one ruined. Had mills go off. Drummond go off. Rondo go off. And James cooking. F you reggie

  32. I was as high as 13th / 30k in several tournaments only to fall back to mid 200’s because Harkless went off for a double double at a 3700 salary. As much as I like to see the Blazers win, who could have predicted this.

  33. PG killed me tonight. Ended up 281 and got next to nothing from PG. Short slate tomorrow should be fun 🙂

  34. Does anybody have any data as far as how often a player is scratched and its reported 1 minute before tip-off (more like 6-7 mins, but for DFS purposes). The Reggie Jackson scratch cost me ALOT of money last night, and their has to be something in place to not have this happen. I mean NBA Courts literally have FANDUEL printed on them. I know the NFL has rules, and MLB has rules as far as lineups, but is this an NBA exception? I’m not mad at the player, team, or organization, but something has to be in place for DFS players to be able to adjust their lineups accordingly (In this case, we would have had about 1 minute anyways)

  35. Does the NBA ever do anything to teams that don’t report lineup changes or injury report status changes early? That stunt the Pistons pulled last night with Jackson is BS!
