Daily Fantasy Basketball Picks for DraftStreet and FanDuel 1/18/14

What a Friday night we had in the NBA. Durant went the heatiest heat check that ever heat checked. Curry tried to keep up and came just short. Rondo was back in Celtic green. The Hayward-less Jazz blew out the Pistons. And Lebron was just kind of Lebron like he is every night. Take a look back at some out our NBA picks from last night where we gave you guys like Curry, Trey Burke, Damian Lillard, Tristan Thompson and Al Jefferson to name just a few.

But alas we set our eyes on the horizon, not on what's behind us. It's a new dawn in daily fantasy and the sky's the limit.

Quick reminder about these picks. At DFSR we employ a system that seeks to gain the most points-per-dollar. When we give a recommendation, it’s because we believe that player has the best chance to meet or exceed his price. On any given the night the highest dollar player can be expected to score the most points, but that doesn’t always make him the best play for the money. Just something to keep in mind. On to the picks.

Point Guard

John Wall DS $16518 FD $8800  - We have him as the point guard value option on both sites today. The price is very sweet for Mr. Wall who is remarkably consistent game-to-game. He just goes out and gets his 20 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds day in and day out. The Pistons are below average against PG (look what Trey Burke did to them last night) and Wall could benefit from Detroit's sloppy play (they let up a ton of steals). Wall is in almost everything for me today.

Stephen Curry DS $18171 FD $9500  - Gave him to you yesterday, he paid. Now he gets New Orleans. The 'Cans aren't bad against PGs, it's just that Curry is so good. I like him more as a tournament play today, but he can find his way into your cash lineups.

Mario Chalmers DS $10410 FD $5600- Check for word about his minutes, but I think with Wade sitting tonight, Chalmer sees a full run. The Heat used a Cole/ Chalmers lineup last night so I'm not too concerned with Mario getting his minutes. I also think that no Wade means reduced blowout risk. Chalmers is a great price today wit room for upside.

DJ Augustin DS $12643 FD $5300 / Kirk Hinrich DS $7574 FD $4300 - I'm contractually obligated to pick guys against Philly. These two dudes have sort of split minutes and if I had to choose, I'd go Augustin on FD and Hinrich on FD.

Ricky Rubio DS $13082 FD $6700 - Honestly, I never really like offering up Rubio and it isn't some kind of geo-political, anti-European thing. It's more because I don't think he's very good. I think our system is buying on him from earlier in the year, though I also suspect it's because the Jazz have been slightly worse against PGs lately, especially in the rebounding department. This is a system recommendation.

PG - FanDuel Value

Trey Burke FD $6000 - Like yesterday, this is contingent on Hayward sitting again. Gordon was a GTD yesterday which means the chances are increased he will play today. Pretty much every member of the Jazz has seen a bump in production with Hayward out (except Hayward himself) and Burke has especially benefited.

Shooting Guard

Klay Thompson DS $10984 FD $6400 - Thompson is the only guy I see as a value pick across both sites today. He looked locked in at certain times last night and I'm hoping some of that carries over. He's a much better price on DS today, and will almost certainly be in my lineups there.

SG - DraftStreet Value

Ray Allen DS $5885 - With Wade out of the lineup tonight, I think Ray picks up a bunch of the minutes. He did last time Wade sat. The problem here is more about the production. Allen hasn't been particularly useful even when on the court. But the DS price is bargain basement and I think you can slot him in without any real risk.

Wesley Matthews DS $11240 - Matthews is so steady at this price that I think he is great as a cash game play on DraftStreet today.

SG - FanDuel Value

Lance Stephenson FD $ 6800 - Playing at such a high level right now will almost definitely benefit from the pace of the Clippers. His FD price hasn't caught up yet and he's a great play there today.

Small Forward

Another day, another group of risky/ middling players at small forward.

Shawn Marion DS $11950 FD $5200 - He's back and we are back to recommending him. The Matrix is day-in, day-out one of my favorite plays. His price is almost always low. Portland's d against SF is fine, it's just the price on Marion is in the sweet spot.  This should be a high scoring game and Marion should pay this easily.

Trevor Ariza DS $12836  FD $6600 - He's good, then he's not. He pays, then he doesn't. He breaks my heart repeatedly. Then he pulls me back in. Trevor Ariza, you're killing me. And yet here we go again. I need couple's therapy with this dude. He's a nice price on both sites today against Detroit. I'll play him, and then lament what could have been. So goes me and Trevor.

SF - DraftStreet Value

Chandler Parsons $12649 - I like this price a lot for Parsons today. He's been able to put up lines in the 30s and it doesn't matter so much for him who is in or out of the lineup. Only problem here is he might not see the fourth quarter against the terrible Bucks.

SF - FanDuel Value

(Update) Richard Jefferson FD $4300 - This is if Hayward sits again. Jefferson has been automatic at this price.

Andre Iguodala $5500 - Eep. This recommendation is going to go one of two ways. It'll either look amazing or dreadful without too much room in between. But Iggy simply has too much cross-stat ability to not pick at this price. Curry played close to 40 minutes last night and Iggy only 30 which means Andre could see some extra ball handling responsibilities. Will be interesting to see if Crawford cuts into some of his minutes though. This is a price pick and take it with a grain of salt (hedging!).

Power Forward

Nene Hilario DS $12385 FD $6400 - Is locked back into the starter minutes and this is a great price for him. Since getting back into the starting rotation Nene is averaging 16/4/6/2/2 which more than pays this price. You need to love the dreaded one today.

Kevin Love DS $21293 FD $10800 - Another way to spend some big money today. He doesn't have quite the upside I'd like to see at this price, but Love does seem to go out at get about 40 points a night.

SF - DraftStreet Value

Thaddeus Young DS $13158 - This is if you ever think he'll start playing well again. I'm skeptical.

SF - FanDuel Value

Anthony Davis $9200 - Always an upside play for his FD price.

Carlos Boozer $6000 - Ah the old Philly bump again.

Center

Couple of nice options here today.

Dwight Howard DS $16441 FD $9100 - You're looking for a blowout fade (unlikely) but if you think the Bucks can hang even a little, Dwight is a great value, especially on DraftStreet. The Bucks are just terrible against opposing centers and have no one who can handle Howard. This could be a big double double.

Roy Hibbert DS $11380 FD $5900 - Speaking of teams who can't handle the other teams center, the Clips get shredded by the other team's big man. Just last night Tyson Chandler put up a 12/14 line. On DraftStreet I'm finding a way to start Hibbert and Howard.

Chris Bosh DS $12784 FD $5900 - Coming off a big line against Philly and should see extra touches with Wade out tonight. Plus reports have Lebron dealing with an injury. Going to be tough choosing among these options tonight.
