Total Bases

Ryan Braun
Facing a lefty in Miller Parker today is a recipe for success when it comes to old Braun-y. Miller isn't Coors, but it isn't too far behind either in terms of park factors for righties. Braun has struggled a bit this year especially against southpaws. But some of this is Babip related as well as a lower Hr/FB%. This doesn't tell the whole story by any means, but there are some underlying factors to his reduced OPS. But I'm on him today against Matzek.

Chris Davis
Another guy to consider when it comes to fulfilling total bases in one swing of the bat. Not the safest play on the board but is in such a great spot considering Colome has struggled a little in his time up in the majors and Davis has some of the best power in the game. Again, it's a risk because the contact rate is low. But I wanted to give a guy the field won't be on as much and out system love the upside for.

Total Hits

Dustin Pedroia
He really pounds lefties both this season and over his career. This season's .836 OPS and 130 wRC+ show a guy whose early struggles haven't come from this side of the split. Vidal Nuno is pretty much garbage and it stands to reason that not only will Pedroia be able to grab a hit or two but that he he'll also have more opportunity as the Sox should be able to turn the lineup over more.

Dee Gordon
Speed is such a key component in projecting hits. For some of the other, bigger mashers a great deal needs to go right for them. Granted a lot of those bigger guys are much better hitters than Gordon, but he makes up a great deal of with his legs. This season he's reduced his strike outs and for a leadoff guy he doesn't draw a heck of a lot of walks. He just puts the ball in play and is off to the races. From that perspective I like his chances of getting one against Carlos Martinez who doesn't blow hitters away.

Total Strikeouts

Madison Bumgarner
The Reds have been for sure better offensively of late so I don't make this pick with the near certainty I would have only a few short weeks ago. Joey Votto's return has been positive of course and they might actually be helped by losing Brandon Phillips' bat from the the middle of the lineup. That being said, Ryan Vogelsong struck out seven in six innings yesterday and Ian Kennedy did eight the day before. The Reds still swing and miss a great deal and Bumgarner is averaging close to ten K's per nine. Great upside pick in this slot.

Johnny Cueto
These two picks are a little chalk-y and both involve the same game. So sit back, relax and enjoy a matchup that should involve a lot of batters walking head down back to the dugout. Cueto hasn't been as good as his minuscule ERA would suggest, but he's been fantastic nonetheless. I wouldn't put him in my nine K slot as I don't think with the Giants' K rate the upside is there. But the other two levels are totally reasonable and he should be able to hit seven if he can go later into the game against a mediocre hitting team.
