Total Bases

Paul Goldschmidt
Have you taken a glimpse and seen what he’s done against lefty pitching this season? Only rocking an 1.100 OPS with a wRC+ close to 200. That’s all. No biggie unless you are in to that kind of thing. He gets to face Brad Hand today, a dude we need not concern ourselves with when worry if a good hitter is a favorite for a successful outing. Goldschmidt is one of the game’s true lefty killers and I love the spot he’s in here for the top total base slot.

Giancarlo Stanton
Speaking of lefty killers, Stanton’s been even better. His OPS against lefties is 1.172 with a ridiculous 221 wRC+. These numbers are pretty much out of this world. Tough to fathom really. He faces Vidal Nuno in a hitter’s park. What a spot I will have both of these guys in my top two total bases slots because the upside is so great. I almost wish the numbers went over just three total bases on a day like this.

Hits

Dustin Pedroia
Our system is still very bull-ish on Pedroia though I must admit that it’s getting increasingly difficult to feel so confident. He’s struggled this season even though the numbers against lefties have been pretty positive. That’s where I’m taking him today, against a pitcher in John Danks who doesn’t have a ton of K stuff and the ball should be in play from Pedroia who is tough for lefties to put down swinging.

Martin Prado
Woo boy. Trusting the system on this one though I have my reservations. Prado has been much better for his career against lefties and Brad Hand isn’t a very good pitcher. But Prado’s numbers this season have been not great, even against lefties. Our system projects going forward so I’m tempted to play him here in a spot very few of your competitors will have him.

Strikeouts

Real tough day to chase K’s. These two guys I’d recommend putting in your seven and six slots respectively. Don’t think anyone is close to snagging nine K’s, or at least not with any certainty. Tanaka would be the guy I put on the sheer upside, but the Tribe really don't K much.

Madison Bumgarner
Julio Teheran
I'd probably roll with these two guys in my six and seven spots but for slightly different reasons. Bumgarner is a little more of a K guy but he's facing a patient Oakland team that matches platoons pretty well. That being said, Madison's K rate is among the highest going today so I think you need to play him on that alone. Meanwhile, Teheran doesn't strike as many guys out but his control allows him to go late into games keeping the K/9 close to what he does in a normal game. He faces the Mets who do strike out a bunch. Again, the pitching is close today with a bunch of guys all grouped together.
