Passing Touchdowns

Look Andre Luck, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning are always near the top of the list. Can't think of new ways to write those guys up.

Drew Brees
We were sitting around waiting and waiting for Drew's touchdown production to begin mirroring the other efficiency he was showing in the passing game. It sure seemed like he was running bad and it sure seemed like we were right. Brees has thrown eight touchdowns over his last two games. Last time he did five without having to worry about all those pesky yards and the dude regressed toward his own mean in a hurry. I don't think he's a favorite to throw five again of course, but 3-4 are totally in play considering the Saints in the red zone and the Panthers being just an average team against the pass. Brees' accuracy is the big story here as he's completing more than 70% of his passes on the season. Put the ball on point enough and it'll find the end zone.

Russell Wilsom
Things I don't love about Wilson: he's only thrown 15 touchdown passes total this season which has him in a tie for a coo 15th in the league in that category. So no, from that angle it seems weird to get in on the guy this week. What is to like is just how much the Eagles let up through the air, ranking 25th in the league in total yards allowed through the air this season. They also rank 28th in the league in passing touchdowns allowed. This is what happens when you play a wide open style of offense and the other team's offense gets on the field a ton. That's what I'm shooting for with Wilson. He's an against the grain pick in this format simply because the big boys throw so damn much. But I think he could pay off in a contrarian way.

All-Purpose Yards

Arian Foster
One thing I love about Foster in this format is that you can lock it up that, if he's in the starting lineup, the Texans are going to feed him the ball with enough opportunity to hit high total yard markers. Last week the only thing that held him back was Fitzpatrick completing a few longer touchdowns that took away some bigger drives from Foster. This week he gets the Jaguars who, while being a bit better defensively of late are still a team that allowed about 100 total yards to Rashad Jennings last week. Foster will command the ball more and is a significantly better talent when everything is firing. Though he sat out a practice this week I fully suspect him to command the ball this week and because of how the Texans use him in the passing game as well, he has the best chance to eclipse the highest yard marker.

Mark Ingram
Ingram is much the same story as Foster above. The Saints are content to give him a high volume of touches on any given week. He's gotten 23 or more touches in three of the last four weeks and caught an average of three passes a game in that time. It sounds simple, but to gain the most yards, you need to have the ball a ton. I'm not trying to be didactic here, it's just the concept that is sometimes overlooked especially when a guy has a down week like Ingram did to weeks ago. The Saints aren't going away from the guy. Get him in your yardage top three without hesitation.

Receptions

Josh Gordon
Well it hasn't taken this guy long to get back in the fold huh? He's been one of the highest targeted receivers in the league since his return and I don't suspect it stops no matter who's taking snaps for the Browns. Gordon is a singular talent and it's a real shame he's only started playing last week (whatever the reason). Getting 16 and 13 targets is no joke and of course targets are the only way to, ahem, catch passes. I don't suspect it changes too terribly much on who is behind center for the Browns as their modus operandi in the passing game is to feed Gordon the ball. I think he creeps close the the highest catch marker.

Calvin Johnson
Speaking of singular talents. I was content to take a wait and see approach with Megatron until last week's Thanksgiving Day games sort of forced my hand because of the talent pool. He didn't disappoint, catching 11 ball on 16 targets while making everyone forget for a short time just how much we'd missed him over the last few weeks. He's the very best. No doubt about it and honestly the choice between he and Gordon is pretty close (in a good way). Both could eclipse the top catch totals and you'll walk away a winner.
