Really exciting Thursday-Friday slate in college football this week. Some big offenses going as well as a couple of solid defensive matchups. We've got you covered for the short slate.
We're also selling lineups and cheatsheets for every CFB slate. This week they include 1 DraftKings and 1 FanDuel lineup along with a cheatsheet of write ups on a number of different players. They are $5 and are separate from our membership subscription. This season of our 74% of our FanDuel lineups have moneyed in cash games, and one won the FanDuel Redshirt tournament. Meanwhile 50% of our DraftKings lineups have hit in GPP games. Don't miss out.
Greg Ward Jr.
Ward was our top quarterback play last week and dude was Aces right out of the gate. Ward finished the game with 273 yards passing and 182 on the ground with 3 touchdowns. He didn’t pass for a touchdown and still hit value going away. That’s the kind of game we look for in our cash game QB’s. Guys with the ability to score in multiple ways are more immune to matchup deficiencies. Ward is an elite dual threat quarterback with a juicy matchup against the defensively challenged SMU Mustangs. Matt Davis is arguably the better Pts/$ play at the position and had this been a larger slate I may have leaned Davis for my cash games. As it stands I don’t think you need to save the money and that makes Ward one of the safest plays on the entire slate.
Ito Smith
As I like to do each week I offer someone who may not be as well-known or simply flying under the radar a bit and this week Smith fits the mold. Smith only has 45 carries on the year, hardly appealing for a running back, but Ito is also a regular part of the passing game. When evaluating productivity from the running back slot I tend to dismiss receptions since they are generally more volatile than carries. Of course that’s not always the case and I think that’s the situation we have with Smith. Southern Miss makes their bones through the air and given their underdog status I think Smith’s versatility should allow him to stay on the field. He is cheap on both sites, also a strong factor why he is being mentioned, so he provides salary relief and a decent floor relative to price.
Injury Update: Keep an eye on Devon Johnson and his availability for this week's game. If he is out Tony Pittman becomes a strong play on both sites. If Devon is back his price on FanDuel is near minimum while I would be less inclined to pay his Draftkings salary being his first week back from injury.
JuJu Smith
This is an easy one and it would be unfair to give me guff for recommending the highest salaried guy at the position. The reality is, outside of quarterback, JuJu is probably the safest player on the board. Typically that honor will go to a running back because of the touches, but JuJu is in a class of his own when it comes to receiver. His production has been somewhat dependent on scoring, but guys like this playing on teams like USC generally have a strong chance to score every game. The talent cliff approaches quickly on this short slate. JuJu is money well spent.
Casey Martin
Brett Favre is loving this Thursday’s article and I’m sure he will read it since he is a huge fan of mine. He’s loving it because Martin comes in as the 2nd Golden Eagle (Favre’s alma mater) and arguably the odds on favorite to finish as the best value at wide receiver. Martin leads Southern Miss with 29 receptions for 339 yards and 5 scores. Last week he was over shadowed by Michael Thomas’ 3 touchdowns, but on the year Martin has been considerably more consistent. The pricing is odd as well considering Martin is $1500 less on FanDuel and $900 more than Thomas on Draftkings. The pricing mistake seems to be with FanDuel and I will be playing Martin heavily on that site in my cash games.
Jaylen Samuels
When you add 1 part running back, 1 part tight end, and 1 part athlete you get Jaylen Samuels. He probably shouldn’t be listed as a tight end, but he is so make sure to capitalize while you can. He serves sort of like an H-Back, but ultimately he is used in multiple ways and can create mismatches with his size and athleticism. It’s not a sexy matchup, but his usage separates him from the field. Outside of Samuels I would only consider Ryan Yurachek.
