Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings & FanDuel for Thursday, January 14th, 2016. There are no teams playing on back to back nights and only the San Jose Sharks are paying a third game in four nights. There are some terrific goaltender options tonight with great values due to recent form and backups taking over for injured stars.

Let's take a look at some core plays for tonight.

Goaltenders

Brian Elliott
Opponent - CAR
FD - 7400 DK - 7600

Since taking over for the injured Jake Allen, he has picked up two wins in his two starts and only allowed three goals in that time. He will get another start tonight as a home favorite(-165) vs. the Hurricanes who are worse on the road and rank 19th in goals allowed per game and 19th on the penalty kill.

Petr Mrazek
Opponent - ARI
FD - 8800 DK - 7500

He has cemented himself as the #1 goalie in Detroit with a 15-8-3 record and .930 save % so far this season. He has won his last four starts and hasn't allowed more than one goal in his last three games. The price is still very affordable on DraftKings but still a great choice on both sites.

Also Consider - Cory Schneider - New Jersey Devils @ COL

 

CENTER

Joe Pavelski
Opponent - EDM
FD - 8300 DK - 7700

The Sharks have been hot winning three straight games on the back of Pavelski who has recorded five points in those games. He now has 43 on the season with 17 coming on the powerplay. San Jose's troubles at home don't concern me tonight as they host the Oilers who are 5-17 on the road this year and have only won three of their last 10 games.

Marcus Johansson
Opponent - VAN
FD - 5500 DK - 4100
He will be back on the ice tonight after a two game suspension for a high hit on Thomas Hickey. He has a low price tag, especially on DraftKings and is safe in all formats as the Capitals are hot winning four straight games and lead the NHL in points. Johansson has recorded 11 points i his last 10 games with 27 shots and a +2 rating.

WINGERS

Alex Ovechkin
Opponent - VAN
FD - 9700 DK - 8700

With five goals in his last three games, Ovechkin has taken over as the leagues top goal scorer with 26 goals this season. While he is the most expensive skater on FanDuel he falls behind Kane on DraftKings. He is a terrific play in any format as he has fired 211 shots on goal giving him a high floor and he has the biggest upside of any player in the league on the #2 and #2 powerplay in the league.

Stack with - TJ Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov

 

James Neal
Opponent - WPG
FD - 5800 DK - 5800

He is more due for a breakout than any other player in the league right now. He hasn't scored a goal in seven games despite firing 26 shots on goal in that time. He will be a very low owned option tonight and a fantastic GPP tournament play.

Stack with - Filip Forsberg, Craig Smith, Mike Ribeiro, Roman Josi

Also Consider - Mikkel Boedker - Arizona Coyotes vs. DET

DEFENSE

P.K. Subban
Opponent - CHI
FD - 5700 DK - 6100

He has started to heat up lately with points in five of his last six games for the Habs. He has seven points in his last 10 games and has added 30 shots on goal, 17 penalty minutes(FD bonus), and a +2 rating for the struggling Canadiens. He averages over 27:00 of ice time per game and will help to turn the ship around in a very tough matchup at home vs. the Blackhawks who have won eight straight. If the Habs are going to end the Hawks streak they will need the help of Subban tonight.

 

Tyson Barrie
Opponent - NJ
FD - 4300 DK - 5400

A terrific GPP, high upside defensemen who comes with a very affordable price, especially on FanDuel. He has recorded 10 points in his last 10 games including two multi point games. One of which he recorded two goals and two assists vs. a strong Kings team. Should be a great game tonight as the Avs have been a better home team this year and they host the Devils who have been a better road team.
