Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings & FanDuel for Saturday, January 16th, 2016. A busy day in the NHL with three games going off in the afternoon and seven games in the evening. We will be concentrating on the night slate for the following picks. These five teams are playing on back to back nights:

  • Boston Bruins *3rd Game in Four Nights*
  • Toronto Maple Leafs (Road) *3rd Game in Four Nights*
  • Buffalo Sabres
  • Minnesota Wild (Road) Dallas Stars (Road)

Let's dig in and find some core and value plays for tonight's action.

Goaltenders

Braden Holtby
Opponent - BUF
FD - 10000 DK - 8600

He is the highest priced goalie on both sites by a wide margin. You will definitely want to consider paying up for him in cash games as he is the closest thing to a safe play. He has gone 8-0-1 in his last 9 starts and put up an incredible .937 save percentage. The Capitals are the biggest favorites (-195) on the board and carry a seven point cushion on 2nd place in the NHL standings.

Tuukka Rask
Opponent - TOR
FD - 8100 DK - 7700

Got the night off on Friday while the Bruins picked up a big win in Buffalo. They face the Leafs at home on Saturday and have beat them in each of the last three meetings. Rask has picked up two wins vs. the Leafs this year with a .957 save % and has pushed his career record to 13-3 with a .937 save %. A strong GPP play on Saturday night.

Also Consider - Semyon Varlamov - Colorado Avalanche @ CBJ

CENTER

Patrice Bergeron
Opponent - TOR
FD - 6500 DK - 7300

Normally one of the most consistent fantasy producers, Bergeron is in a bit of a slump recently. While he only has six points in his last 10 games, he has fired 38 shots on goal leaving a bit floor for safety. The Bruins are playing on back to back nights and a third game in four nights but get a great matchup vs. the Leafs who they have beaten twice already this season.

Stack with -  Brad Marchand, Loui Eriksson, Brett Connolly

Joe Thornton
Opponent - DAL
FD - 5300 DK - 5100

He continues to be the #1 value option over the past couple weeks with a salary that hovers around $5K on both sites. Big Joe has recorded 14 points in his last 10 games with 22 shots, 18 PIMS, and a +7 rating. He centers a line with Joe Pavelski and Tomas Hertl making one of best stacking options of the night.

Stack with - Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns, Tomas Hertl, Patrick Marleau

Also Consider Boone Jenner - Columbus Blue Jackets vs. COL

WINGERS

Alex Ovechkin
Opponent - BUF
FD - 9500 DK - 8700

Hard to fade Ovechkin at his current salary in the industry. He is currently on a similar pace as the past two years where he finished with 79 and 80 points. He is second behind Patrick Kane in goals(26) and has scored nine in his last 10 games. He provides the highest floor of any player in the league as he averages 29.7 iCorsi/60 which has produced a massive 216 shots on goal this year.

Stack with - Nicklas Bakstrom, TJ Oshie, Evgeny Kuznetsov

James Neal
Opponent - MIN
FD - 6300 DK - 5900

He finally broke out of a seven game slump on Thursday with a goal and an assist vs. Winnipeg. He always makes a reasonable cash game play with a high floor as he averages 18.9 iCorsi/60 and has fired 23 shots on goal in his last 5 games. The Preds are back home after a four game road trip which saw them extend their losing streak to five games. Look for a bounce back game tonight from the Predators and some offense from their top players.

Stack with - Ryan Johansen, Mike Ribeiro, Filip Forsberg

Also Consider - Jordan Eberle - Edmonton Oilers vs. CGY

DEFENSE

Mark Giordano
Opponent - EDM
FD - 6100 DK - 6400

Has points in six straight and 10 of his last 11 games. He is averaging over 24:00 of ice time and close to 3:00 on the powerplay and has been one of the Flames best players in 2015/16. The Flames travel a few hours north tonight for another installment of the Battle of Alberta which always seems to produce high scoring entertaining hockey. The Flames have also won five straight games on the road in Edmonton and nine of the last 10 in total.

Matt Niskanen
Opponent - BUF
FD - 4400 DK - 4600

He has continued to see an increase in ice time with the injuries to Brooks Orpik and John Carlson. While he does not provide multi point upside for tournaments he does provide a nice floor for cash games. He has five points in his last 10 games with 20 shots on goal, 19 blocks and a +8 rating. The Capitals have won five straight games and have built a seven point cushion as they sit in first place in the NHL standings.

Also Consider - Morgan Rielly - Toronto Maple Leafs @ BOS
