Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings & FanDuel for Friday, January 22nd, 2016. We have a bit of an odd night as there are two completely different slates between the two sites. First of all, DraftKings offers two slates with six games on the schedule tonight. They offer a slate that starts at 6:00 pm ET and includes all six games and another slate that starts at 7:00 pm ET and includes only five games. FanDuel on the other hand is only running one, four game slate tonight and has not included the ANH/WSH or NYR/CAR game. Let's dig in and find some core and value plays for tonight's action.

Goaltenders

Henrik Lundqvist - New York Rangers
Opponent - CAR
FD - N/A  DK - 7900

Only available on DraftKings tonight and will be an elite play on the road in Carolina. After a prolonged stretch of inconsistency, King Henrik has seen his salary come way down lately. This is the time to jump on board as he has been playing very well lately winning three of his last four games and allowing two or less goals in each of those games. Besides the Capitals, the Eastern Conference playoff race is very tight and if the Rangers want to keep teams behind them they are going to need Lundqvist to provide more solid performances.

Roberto Luongo
Opponent - CHI
FD - 8700 DK - 8000

This pick is more suited for GPP formats tonight as the Panthers welcome the red hot Blackhawks tonight. The Panthers and Luongo have lost three straight games which has seen his sky high salary start to drop. Luongo has carried the Panthers to the Atlantic Division lead and right in the thick of the playoff hunt. The Panthers are getting the Hawks at the right time as their win streak was snapped last night in Tampa Bay. They are also playing on back to back nights and a third game in four nights on the road.

CENTER

Evgeny Kuznetsov - Washington Capitals vs. ANH
Opponent - ANH
FD - N/A DK - 6500

The Washington Capitals are playing lights out hockey right now and lead the NHL with 73 points. There are a handful of players on the Caps that provide elite fantasy value lately with Kuznetsov right at the top of the list. He has picked up 11 points in his last five games including seven assists in his last two games. While he has been an elite setup man with 33 assists on the year, he can also score with 15 goals as well on the season.

Pavel Datsyuk
Opponent - BUF
FD - 6500 DK - 5900

He has picked up six points in his last four games and nine in his last 10 games. He has been a very consistent option since making a late season debut due to off season surgery. Still has some upside to play with as well as he is currently sporting a shooting percentage of 8.5% which is a ways below his career average of 14.2%. Get in on him at his current value as the price is bound to rise very soon.

WINGERS

Vladimir Tarasenko
Opponent - COL
FD - 8100 DK - 7800

Although the production has fallen off in January, the shot volume still remains. Tarasenko has only picked up seven points in his last 10 games but in that time has fired 34 shots on goal. The Blues head to Colorado tonight riding a three game win streak and hope to beat the Avs for the first time in three tries this season. In the two previous games, Tarasenko has picked up a goal and two assists and should be primed to carry the Blues tonight and down the stretch.

Bobby Ryan
Opponent - NYI
FD - 5400 DK - 5500

Besides a few three game scoreless stretches, Ryan has been very consistent this season for the Sens with 40 points in 46 games including 12 points on the powerplay. In his last 10 games he has recorded seven points on 21 shots. The Senators are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture and will need all hands on deck to catch and pass multiple teams. The New York Islanders come to town tonight a little banged up on the blue line giving the Sens a great opportunity to pick up two points and move closer to the playoffs.

DEFENSE

Erik Karlsson
Opponent - NYI
FD - 6200 DK - 7300

The top option on the slate tonight has picked up four points in his last three games and eight points in his last 10 games. He has also added 33 shots on goal and 21 blocked shots(DK bonus). He is a much better play on FanDuel tonight as he is only going to cost you 11% of your salary cap vs. 15% on DraftKings. With a small defense pool tonight he makes a great GPP play on DK and safe play in any format on FD.

 

Nick Leddy
Opponent - OTT
FD - 4300 DK - 4200

With injuries to Johnny Boychuk and Travis Hamonic, Leddy has seen extended ice time and is being relied upon more on the powerplay. Most recently he has picked up points in two straight games and fired six shots on goal in that time. The salary will eventually catch up but for now he makes a terrific value play.
