Welcome back to another night of daily fantasy hockey with a solid 8 games in the NHL tonight. Whether you prefer to pay up for a goalie or roster a value option there are some great options tonight. With no NBA this weekend(All Star Break in Toronto) there will be a ton of volume on the sites and there are some terrific guaranteed prize pools tonight.

The following teams are playing on back to back nights:

  • Carolina Hurricanes (Home)
  • Arizona Coyotes (Road) *3rd Game in 4 Nights*
  • Florida Panthers (Home)
  • Nashville Predators (Road)

One more note. I have started interacting through the comment section and answering questions about lineups, strategy and just about anything you wanna talk about. I pop in and out throughout the day and will be active for about an hour leading up to lineup lock at 7:00 pm ET.

Let's dig in to the action and find some core plays for tonight.

Goaltenders

Jaroslav Halak
Opponent - CAR
FD - 8000 DK - 7400

The Islanders travel to Carolina tonight for a matchup against the Hurricanes who are playing on back to back nights and coming off a loss to the Penguins. The Islanders have won 3 straight games and currently sit 3rd in the Metropolitan Division. Halak picked up a win in his last game after struggling against tough teams on the road in Washington and Detroit. The isles are -135 favorites tonight and have a great shot at a road win. He is a safe option in any format.

Ryan Miller
Opponent - TOR
FD - 8200 DK - 7200

More of a tournament play tonight as he has bee inconsistent to this point of the season. He is, however, in a great spot tonight at home vs. the Maple Leafs. The Canucks are the biggest favorite on the board(-190) tonight and get a shot at the struggling Leafs who are going through major changes after shipping their Captain out of town. Add to it that the Leafs have lost 5 straight games in Vancouver dating back to 2009. Miller has been playing quite well coming into this one even if his win totals don't reflect it. He hasn't allowed more than 2 goals in a game in four straight and should have no problem extending that streak tonight.

Also Consider - Corey Crawford - Chicago Blackhawks vs. ANH

CENTER

Connor McDavid
Opponent - WPG
FD - 7800 DK - 6900

Since returning to the Oilers lineup for the first time in two months, McDavid hasn't skipped a beat and has seen his salary jump significantly.  There is still room for value if you jump on board now as the price will soon be in the GPP only territory. In those 6 games since returning he has picked up 12 points (3 on PP), 15 shots and a +3 rating. Not to mention 3 of those 6 games were multi point efforts. He is a generational type player and in DFS he is a terrific value tonight.

Stack with - Jordan Eberle, Benoit Pouiot

Henrik Sedin
Opponent - TOR
FD - 5700 DK - 4800

He is in his 15th season in the NHL and has started to see a decline in his offensive production. This doesn't mean he can't be used in DFS in good matchups. Tonight is one of those vs. the struggling Leafs who sit last in the NHL standings. Henrik has 38 points on the season with 14 of those coming with the man advantage. If you are doing multiple lineups in a GPP a Canucks stack makes perfect sense tonight.

Stack with - Daniel Sedin, Jannik Hansen

Also Consider - Joe Thornton - San Jose Sharks vs. ARI

WINGERS

Patrick Kane
Opponent - ANA
FD - 8700 DK - 8700

Both Kane and Ovechkin make terrific high end plays tonight. Both are matchup proof and elite talents that can explode for multiple points at any time. I will take Kane tonight based on salary and the better matchup. He is only $200 cheaper on DraftKings but $1400 cheaper on FanDuel. He also gets a home matchup vs. the Ducks who are playing their 4th road game of the week. Look for a big Chicago win tonight in which Kane should, as always, be a contributor.

Stack with - Artem Anisimov, Artemi Panarin

Jaromir Jagr
Opponent - NAS
FD - 5500 DK - 5600

The ageless one just keeps producing like he is in his thirties. He has been one of the main reasons the Pantherslead the Atlantic Divsion and a huge reason for the maturity and success of his linemates Barkov and Huberdeau. With Barkov out last game, Jagr picked up two points in a tough loss to the Blues. Look for the team to get back on track tonight with Jagr playing a big role. With his salary still in the mid $5K range, he makes a great play in any format.

Stack with - Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick Bjugstad

Also Consider - Bobby Ryan - Ottawa Senators @ CBJ

DEFENSE

Erik Karlsson
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 7800 DK - 7700

If you are paying up for one D man tonight make it Karlsson. He has been red hot lately on with 17 points in his last 12 games for the Senators and provides the highest upside of any D man on tonight's slate. He is making a terrific case for back to back Norris Trophy's as he leads all D men with 62 points which also ranks in a tie for 2nd among all skaters(Absolutely Amazing!!!).

Nick Leddy
Opponent - CAR
FD - 4900 DK - 4500

He makes a great value on the point tonight for a cost less than $5,000 on both sites. He is getting right around 3 minutes a game on the powerplay and has recorded 14 of his 24 season points with the man advantage this season. The Islanders get a great matchup tonight in what should be a high scoring game as the Canes are playing on back to back nights. He is a great option in any format.

Also Consider - Chris Tanev - Vancouver Canucks vs. TOR

  1. You guys really made my first night playing DFS Hockey worth my while. Can’t wait to see what lineups you guys suggest today!

    • ha mine too – good stuff. Hope everyone isn’t reading this

  2. Wow tough night for goalies. Halak is in a good spot and Good call on Miller being gpp only but I may be leaning towards Jones at home vs Coyotes in my cash games. Should be a lot of good plays on offence. I won’t be around much today. I have a curling bonspiel. One play I like that I’m gonna play in all my cash games is Patrick eaves for 4200 on FD. It’s tough to roster a star vs the caps and eaves is on 1st line and pp1 . I like the McDavid pick Chris. Pouilott is also a good choice at 6200 for being on Mcdavids line. Look at the sens jackets game for a lot of offence. Hoffman is good pick at 5900. Jackets are a tough call though to pick a certain player.

  3. 2nd day playing DK Hockey since basketball is on the shelf, didn’t have great luck yesterday with the stacks. On that not doing a 2 game league what are the chances Chi is a blowout and they take out Crawford?

    • In NHL they normally never take a Goalie out

  4. Another good value pick is sekera for oilers at 3800 on FD. He’s on pp1 . Rostering two or three oilers may be the way to go tonight. Jets are poorly disciplined and Pavelec will be rusty or else it’s Hutchinson who isn’t good right now. Oh and joe Thornton at 6200 vs Arizona is a must start for me tonight. 1st line pp1.

  5. Off topic think you could put out nascar picks? Thanks appreciate if you can

  6. Thoughts on rostering some low price leafs on DK? Injuries have allowed for players to move up the line-up, and the Canucks are more inconsistent than any team in the league

  7. Poliout Hoffman eberle eaves McDavid Thornton klingberg sekera jones . Any tboughts

    • Dan,

I’m going to roll with yours in a quintuple up. I think your lineup advice would have won me money last night too

  8. How necessary is it to try and get someone like Ovi going up against the Stars on a night like tonight?

  9. Ryan,

The lineup you suggested me yesterday won me $$$$$! Thank you sir may I have another?

  10. Kadri, Backstrom, Ovechkin, Arcobello, Poulliot, Eberle, Gardiner, S. Jones, M. Jones.

    Thoughts?

  11. On FD I’m running with similar lu’s mentioned above.
Pouliot, Hoffman, Kane, eberle, mcdavid, animisov, tanev, stone and jones. Defense is soft naturally trying to fit Kane in.

    • Ryan,

I was talking to the other Ryan, but I will run with your lineup in $5 50/50 and quintuple up. Wish me luck

  12. Janmark, Donskoi, Jagr, Kane, Johansson, Sedin, Karlsson, Leddy, Halak a a gpp. Any thoughts?

  13. I like it maddog. Can get to more questions in an hour or so. Just finishing a reno on my flooded floor i house

  14. I am off the Leafs. If doing 5+ lineups I would do a cheap leafs stack. I like a low scoring Canucks win. I could be wrong though. i have been wrong before. LOL

  15. Pouliout hoffman pavelski eaves corture Thornton leddy sekera jones

    • Dan,

Which one should I go with? Your first lineup or your second one? I’ve got two $2 Quintuple ups where top 150 out of 853 win. I’m also in a $5 50/50 both on FanDuel. Which lineup of yours should I use for each contest?

      Thanks. You’re awesome

  16. Chris seconds the 2nd line think that’s what I gonna use

  17. Ok then Dan I’m rolling with your second one for one of the Quintuple ups, the 50/50 and now a Triple Up. Still sticking with your first one in the other tho

  18. Hi Justin I just got off the ice. Sorry for the delay.
Here’s my cash game lineup tonight. I don’t really have a mini stack or anything. Just a lot of top players on different teams.
LW Hoffman huberdeau RW Eaves Kane
C McDavid Thornton. D sekera and Hutton from
Van. My goalie is Jones sj. I’m confident again
    Good luck

    • Thank you Ryan!

The late response is better than no response! I’m playing your lineup in my $5 50/50 and two leagues!

      Wish me luck

  19. Sweating this out fellas. I know it’s not easy to win twice in a row and my NBA DFS record is abysmal at best

  20. Usually only play football and NBA but I’ve taken the advice off of here the last couple nights to give NHL a try. I don’t even watch hockey and thanks to you all and your advice, I have flushed $50 down the toilet in two nights. Lol

  21. Sorry guys. I wasn’t focused. I hope u didn’t take my lineup. Not good results. Stuff happens though right?

    • Ryan,

It’s ok. Stuff does happen. You helped me win my first night so you’re cool with me. What are you rolling with today?

  22. All good lost too it happens . Guys don’t perform blah blah. Stacked San Jose too still lost

    • Dan,

You and Ryan are good. I don’t dwell on the past I move forward. On that note what are we looking like today?

  23. Ya I didn’t focus yesterday Dan and Justin. I was busy curling. I’m not playing today. Gonna see what’s up for tomorrow’s games. Take er easy guys.

  24. Man 2 days without nhl picks now? Lol

  25. Sorry been crazy busy. I will be here today to chat throughout the day. Working on PGA and NHL content so glued to CPU.

  26. Lineup 1 – Panarin, Galchenyuk, Doan, Hemsky, Johansen, H. Sedin, Subban, Josi, Reimer

Lineup 2 – Panarin, Galchenyuk, Doan, Neal, Plekanec, Holland, Subban, Letang, Darling

    Any thoughts or suggestions
