We are back for another night of daily fantasy hockey. Tonight we have a huge 11 game slate in the NHL with tons options at every position.

The following teams are playing on back to back nights:

  • Minnesota Wild (Road) * 3rd Game in 4 Nights*
  • New York Rangers (Road)

The following teams are playing a 3rd Game in 4 Nights:

  • Anaheim Ducks (Road)
  • Dallas Stars (Road)

One more note. I have started interacting through the comment section and answering questions about lineups, strategy and just about anything you wanna talk about. I pop in and out throughout the day and will be active for about an hour leading up to lineup lock at 7:00 pm ET.

Let's dig in to the action and find some core plays for tonight.

Goaltenders

Brian Elliott
Opponent - LA
FD - 9000 DK - 8400

At first glance this may seem like a tough matchup vs. the Kings tonight. Add the fact he is the most expensive option on DK and close to the top on FD and I can see most people pivoting to another option tonight. Now onto the positives. First, he is red hot going 6-2-2 over his last 10 games with a .954 save % and one shutout. In those last 10 games he has only allowed more than 2 goals in two games. He has also beat LA this season stopping 29 of 30 shots. The Blues are slight home favorites tonight in a game with a total of 5 which, at this point, has the under favored. Great opportunity to get Elliott at lower than normal ownership.

Kari Lehtonen
Opponent - ARI
FD - 8200 DK - 7100

I haven't talked about Lehtonen in awhile now as he went through a stretch where he lost six games in a nine game stretch. He is now back near the top of his game and comes with very affordable price if you don't want to pay up tonight for your goalie. He is coming off a tough loss in which he only allowed 2 goals to the Blues but had three straight wins before that. He isn't going to provide the high upside as he does not have the best save % and has only picked up 1 shutout on the season but he is in a great spot to pick up a win tonight vs. the Coyotes.

Also Consider - Cam Talbot - Edmonton Oilers vs. MIN

CENTER

Tyler Seguin
Opponent - ARI
FD - 7700 DK - 8400

Tonight marks a great time to jump back on board the Seguin train if you have been off of him lately. Since the All Star break he has picked up 10 points in eight games for the Stars who have been creeping back up the standings and now sit just 1 point behind the Blackhawks. He gets a terrific matchup tonight vs. the Coyotes who rank 28th in goals allowed per game and 24th in PK percentage. He is a safe pick in any format.

Stack with - Jamie Benn, Patrick Sharp, John Klingberg

David Krejci
Opponent - NAS
FD - 5600 DK - 6000

The Bruins are ranked #4 in offensive efficiency and #1 in powerplay efficiency this season. Krejci has been a big part of that success with 45 points in 47 games this season including points in eight of his last 10 games. He is back playing with Loui Eriksson who is always playing really good right now so make sure you stack the second line or top PP unit to maximize your exposure to the B's.

Stack with - Patrice Bergeron(PP), Ryan Spooner(PP), Loui Eriksson

Also Consider - Elias Lindholm - Carolina Hurricanes @ OTT

WINGERS

Nikita Kucherov
Opponent - WPG
FD - 6600 DK - 6800

Targeting the Lightning offense has been frustrating for daily fantasy this season. One player who has provided consistency for fantasy owners has been Kucherov. since November he has only gone 2 or more games(never more than 3) without a point on three occasions. He has 48 points on the season including 22 with the man advantage. The Bolts are in a great spot Thursday night at home facing the struggling Jets.

Stack with - Tyler Johnson, Andrej Palat

Justin Abdelkader
Opponent - PIT
FD - 4900 DK - 4700

It is hard to avoid Abdelkader as long as he is playing on the top line with Zetterberg and Datsyuk. He comes in under $5K on both sites and is getting run with the top powerplay unit as well. He has picked up 8 points in his last 10 games including three multi point efforts. He gets a bit of a tough matchup tonight on the road in Pittsburgh which could help drive the ownership down. Great value play for any format tonight and make sure in GPP you stack him with the players below.

Stack with - Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg

Also Consider - Jeff Skinner - Carolina Hurricanes @ OTT

DEFENSE

John Klingberg
Opponent - ARI
FD - 6000 DK - 6300

I love the Stars tonight vs. the Coyotes and will try and get as much exposure as possible. Klingberg is tied with Brent Burns for 2nd in points among defensmen this year and has been an excellent DFS play at a reduced price form the top guys. He has 9 points in his last 10 games with 27 shots on goal, 9 blocks and a +2  rating. He will be my highest owned D man tonight across all formats.

Mattias Ekholm
Opponent - BOS
FD - 4800 DK - 3900

A great value play on the point tonight for the Predators. He has provided tremendous value for DFS lately with 8 points(2 on the PP) in his last 10 games with 13 shots, and 8 blocks(DK Bonus).  He has also added a terrific +7 rating and 12 penalty minutes which both help out over at FanDuel.

Also Consider - Danny Dekeyser - Detroit Red Wings @ PIT

  1. Struggling to pick between Doan and Little as my last forward

  2. New to DFS, is stacking a good strategy In 50-50?

  3. Ok I’m going Skinner, Hoffman, Kucherov, Abdelkader, Seguin, Krejci, Klingberg, Ekholm and Talbot.

    Any suggestions?

  4. I prefer more stacking but if you are someone who likes players from different teams it is great.

  5. How do YOU handle teams that split their top 2 lines and power play lines. Do you find it more difficult to stack just PP lines?

  6. I’m pretty new to this, could you explain the stacking concept you mention above?

  7. “How do YOU handle teams that split their top 2 lines and power play lines. Do you find it more difficult to stack just PP lines?”

It depends night to night. I look at the opponent and see where they rank PIM/Game. Like If I run into that situation with a team facing the Flyers I will lean to the PP stack rather than even strength and opposite if its a team ranked high in PK%

  8. Stacking is simply taking a players linemates. Example would be Tyler Seguin. in tournaments I would also roster Benn and Sharp and possibly a defensemen. In hockey there can be two assists on each goal(total of 3 points). Hockey is like baseball in that multiple players can collect fantasy points on one given play. It maximizes your ceiling by rostering players on the same even strength or mentioned above PP line.

There are many sites that show line combinations but I personally use http://www.leftwinglock.com and I also have their app for smartphone.

  9. Well the last two nights have been God awful for me but I’ve been researching more and more trying to figure this weird hockey year out. I can’t remember who started a backup goalie last night lol. Thomas was that u? That’s ridiculous. Zero points is better than a – but sometimes stud goalies just have bad nights. Anyways I love Seguin tonight and Kucherov. Both close to must starts

  10. I have been doing the $3 (3 limit entry) tourny and having success. I had one Lundy lineup that tanked but did a Dubnyka and a Varlamov lineup with same skaters and cashed both over 40 pts. Tonight probably going similar direction with 3 different goalies and two lineups that are very similar just different goalies.

  11. Chris,

I’m going to try your method. I am in three $3 tourneys myself. I’m using the same lineup for all three entries. Can you or Ryan suggest a different one?

    Thanks

  12. Use Elliot in one with a cheap stack team like DET/CAR/OTT/MIN

  13. Ok how’s this for size

Zetterberg, Skinner, Tatar, Bobby Ryan, Koivu, Staal, Karlsson, Ceci and Eliiot. Did I stack the wrong teams?

  14. I kinda like pavelec tonight am i crazy?

  15. I like that one. High upside and low ownership
