We are back for another night of daily fantasy hockey with 5 games on the NHL schedule.

The following teams are playing on back to back nights:

  • New York Islanders (Road)
  • San Jose Sharks (Road) *3rd game in 4 Nights*
  • Carolina Hurricanes (Home) *3rd Game in 4 Nights*
  • Vancouver Canucks (Road)

I have started interacting through the comment section and answering questions about lineups, strategy and just about anything you wanna talk about. I pop in and out throughout the day and will be active for about an hour leading up to lineup lock at 7:00 pm ET.

Let's dig in to the action and find some core plays for tonight.

Goaltenders

Cory Schneider
Opponent - NYI
FD - 8500 DK - 8200

At the time of writing this he is the only goalie confirmed starting Friday night and has a good shot at being the top performer. The Devils are at home vs. the Islanders who are playing on back to back nights and coming off an OT loss to the Capitals on Thursday. The game is projected to be very low scoring and it makes sense as the last 9 meetings between these two have seen the total stay at 5 goals or below. He will be the chalky play on Friday and a great option in any format.

Joonas Korpisalo
Opponent - BUF
FD - 8200 DK - 7100

If you are looking to save a bit at the goalie position, Korpisalo makes a terrific option on Friday night. He has been rock solid for the Blue Jackets lately and in his last 10 games has only allowed more than two goals twice. In those games he has recorded a .935 save % and around 6 fantasy points per game. His best value comes on DraftKings where is a safe option in any format at home vs. the Sabres.

Also Consider - Cam Ward - Carolina Hurricanes vs. SJ

CENTER

Claude Giroux
Opponent - MON
FD - 7900 DK - 6800

The Flyers have been a tough team to read this season. When you think they will play well they get beat and when you think they will get destroyed they put up 5+ goals. For that reason I only recommend the forwards for tournaments. The upside is just too much to pass up with the Flyers top line and PP. Giroux is coming off a 3 point game and has 10 points(6 on the PP) in his last 10 games with 28 shots on goal.

Stack with - Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek

Alex Galchenyuk
Opponent - PHI
FD - 4700 DK - 4700

He is my #1 value play tonight. He is under $5K on both sites and is skating on the Canadiens top line with Plekanec and Gallagher. In his last 10 games he has picked up 7 points(4 on the PP) with 38 shots on goal and a +2 rating for the struggling Habs. While Vegas thinks this game could stay under the total, I disagree as both games between these two teams this year have gone over 6 total goals.

Stack with - Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Plekanec

Also Consider - Joe Thornton - San Jose Sharks @ CAR

WINGERS

Johnny Gaudreau
Opponent - VAN
FD - 8800 DK - 7000

Johnny Hockey has points in two straight and three of his last four games and now has eight points in eight games since the All Star Break. When looking at home/road splits he stands out more than any other player as he averages over 2 fantasy points more per game on home ice. The Flames are home favorites on Friday to the Canucks who are playing on back to back nights. Gaudreau is a great play in any format tonight.

Stack with - Sean Monahan, Jiri Hudler

Cam Atkinson
Opponent - BUF
FD - 5900 DK - 5000

Another player who makes a terrific pick in any format tonight. He is very affordable on both sites, costing around 10% of your salary cap and has been playing very well lately. In his last 10 games he has 10 points including four multi point efforts. He offers a high floor averaging over 3.5 goals per game over the last few weeks. The Blue Jackets are in a good spot on Friday as they are big home favorites to the Sabres.

Stack with - Brandon Dubinsky, Boone Jenner

Also Consider - Tomas Hertl - San Jose Sharks @ CAR

DEFENSE

Shayne Gostisbehere
Opponent - MON
FD - 5200 DK - 5600

What more can be said about Ghost this year. I have been touting this gem since he was near minimum price and he is still churning out value at mid $5K prices. He has set the record for rookie D men with points in 13 straight games now and the last time ANY defensemen scored this many in a row was Brian Leetch back in 1996-97. Get him in your lineup.

David Schlemko
Opponent - NYI
FD - 3600 DK - 3600

On a night with so few games you are going to need a punt play or two to be able to get in the top plays. Schlemko makes a plug and play option on most nights as he offers a fairly high floor around 2 fantasy points per game and is coming off back to back games where he has recorded an assist.

Also Consider - Jack Johnson - Columbus Blue Jackets vs. BUF

  1. Chris, Ryan, Dan and my other DFSR brethren.
I have adopted Chris’s 3 entry league rule and stacking rule and it’s working for me! I had the most successful night on FanDuel NHL than I’ve ever had. On that note here are the lineups I’m rolling with. Please pick them apart and suggest replacements for either one.

    L1
Sedin, Schenn, Gallagher, Saad, Tavares, Dubinsky, Streit, Markov & Lehner

    L2
Sedin, Pacioretty, Gallagher, Saad, Rask, Henrique, Burns, Streit and Schnieder

    L3- The Gamble Lineup
Gaudreau, Hertl, Pavelski, Virtanen, Tavares, Sam Bennett, Brodie, Streit and Markstrom

    • I think you need more exposure to the Flyers, especially Ghost…

  2. I will have a look at these closer with feedback very soon Justin. Just finishing up some NASCAR content and then digging into tonight’s games.

Also, congrats and great to hear it is working for you as well. I had an ok night mixing my stacks wrong but made broke even in the end.

  3. Just curious what consists of Chris’s 3 league entry rule and his stacking rule. Could you add info on that bro?

    • Other Chris,
Absolutely. I am more than happy to share info, because I have gone into this NHL thing with 0 knowledge. These guys have really helped.

In FanDuel there is a league with 100 players, 3 entry max that’s $1 or $2. They are tougher to win because only the top 12 win prizes, but if at least 1 or 2 of lineups finish in the top 12 you’re in for a pretty good night.

Stacking refers to placing guys from the same line from the same team or game in your lineup.

Here’s an example of the winning stack for me last night
Skinner, Staal, Karlsson, Ceci. Those four combined to contribute to 47% of my total score. Then I lucked out by having Koivu and Elliot combine to contribute to another 40% of my total score.

      Hope this helps.

  4. I mentioned yesterday I was playing in the DK 3 entry limit tourny lately and doing well. I have been stacking two teams the same on two of the lineups with different goalies and a third lineup that was contrarian completely. Has been working very well last week or so. Justin started using it on FD as well in tournies. Unfortunately they don’t have any 3 limit entry options. They do however have 100 man leagues where it also works well.

  5. Chris D,

I will be awaiting your analysis of my three lineups. I am most intrigued with my gamble lineup. The basis of that is having Gaudreau, Pavelski and Taveres as the core and using cheap stacks around em. Just something I want to try out as an experiment if you’ll indulge me.

  6. Korpisalo will be my top Goalie tonight in 2 of my 3 GPP lineups. The other I think I am going Schneider.

    My favorite stacks are:

PHI1 – Giroux, Simmonds, Voracek, Gostisbehere(PP) Schenn (PP)

    CBJ1 – Atkinson, Dubinsky, Jenner

CGY1 – Gaudreau, Monahan, Hudler, Giordano

    • seems like Voracek if off PHI 1 – and Schenn is on there.. would you still stack Voracek?

  7. I like your gamblelineup Justin. The nice thing with the 2 lineup approach is you can do it so many ways. You can do a chalky one, a contrarian one, and one you can experiment with. Some nights all 3 could be very close if you are feeling more confident.

  8. Update – Malkin has been ruled out of both game this weekend. Don’t put him in your lineups.

  9. Chris D,
Yes that is the nice thing! Quick change. In my gamble lineup I switched out Markstrom for Cam Ward. Would you advise that or should I have kept it?

  10. Also guys I changed L1 to look like this
Sedin, Schenn, Gallagher, Vrbata, Plekanec, Henrique, Subban, Gostisbehere and Schneider.

    Thoughts? Comments?

  11. I do like that. Both risky but I like Ward better tonight.

  12. I would maybe try and get someone with Schenn. Ghost at D is nice but I would get a full Flyer stack possibly. Just me maybe. Schenn is confirmed skating on top line with Giroux/Simmonds. They move Voracek to Line 2

    • Schenn/Simmonds/Ghost is my favorite stack of the night

  13. Just curious. When you guys say Ghost you’re referring to Gostisbehere correct?

  14. Yes. That is right. Or future HOFer. Whatever….LOL. Slightly biased as a die hard Flyer fan

  15. Ok Chris I got you!

    So update on lineup 1
I put Giroux in for Plekanic to pair with Schenn. I put Leddy in for Subban and put Korpisalo in at goalie.

  16. I’ve been sick Justin but if I feel better later then I will take a look. But yes the ghost is a 100% must start vs anyone until his price reaches 6000.

  17. Here’s my lineup folks. I need a win to get some much needed confidence back. I just ran into some bad luck which happens once in while. This is for fan duel. I post the lineup I use to help new people that wanna play NHL but don’t know the game yet. Use at your own risk. Gaudreau Galchenyuk saad palmeiri giroux Dubinsky ghost schlemko

  18. Korpisalo is my goalie. Palmeiri was my last pick. He was the best player for all the salary I had left at the time

  19. Oh boy. And the goalie lets me down again although most people have hiller and he’s let in one goal on two shots. I’m still waiting over half my contests but gonna need some help In these 3rd periods

  20. Ryan C and Chris D.

My NHL night can be summed up in two words. HOLY and $#!%!!!!! I have no clue what happened, but I’m drinking and happy. Let’s try again tomorrow eh?
