Daily Fantasy College Basketball Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel - 2/27/16 Early Slate

Welcome back to our newest addition to the DFSR family, CBB picks! There’s a huge slate of games tonight so we’re going to break it up into two different articles. This page will breakdown the best plays of the early slate, and give picks for the mid-afternoon slate as well. The second article will breakdown our favorite plays for the late night slate. Tons of CBB today, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Let’s get into it.

Upper Tier

Roosevelt Jones
FD - 8700 DK - 8100
My favorite guy on the early slate from the high-priced guy is Roosevelt Jones. Jones is one of the few guys in college these days to make it to his senior year while putting up solid numbers throughout his career (I feel like he’s been at Butler for like 10 years, but we won’t get into all that). Jones is one of those guys who does a little bit of everything, so he’s got a nice floor compared to someone who relies solely on scoring. Today he draws a nice matchup against Georgetown in a game that should be both high scoring and close. Jones has put up more than 30 FD points in 6 of his last 10 games, and I’m willing to bet that trend will continue today.

Ryan Anderson
FD - 8600 DK - 8500
Another high-priced guy who should have a big game today is Ryan Anderson. This guy has been a beast this year, averaging 16 ppg and 10 rpg on the season in a Pac-12 conference that has been deeper than most expected. This matchup against Utah should be fast-paced and close, given that the O/U is 144.5 and the line is -3. Anderson doesn’t do much other than score and rebound so he carries some risk from that perspective, but I just have a feeling this could be one of those 25 point, 12 rebound performances that you don’t want to miss out on.

Michael Carrera
FD - 9400 DK - 8500
From a PPD perspective I like Roosevelt a little better than Carrera, but I do think that Carrera has a good chance to put up the highest total on the early slate. Carrera’s numbers on the season have been good at 15 ppg and 8 rpg, but his inconsistency has been the reason these numbers aren’t much higher. For example, in his last 10 games, he’s had 6 games with sub-30 FD points, but he’s also produced 4 games with FD totals over 40 (including a monster 57 FD point game against none other than Mississippi St.). Not to sound like a broken record, but this should be a high-scoring and close game, so look for Carrera to have a big game.

Consider Demetrius Jackson, Jamal Murray, and Retin Obasohan for the mid-afternoon slate.

Middle Tier

Malachi Richardson
FD - 7000 DK - 6300
A guy from the mid-priced range that I really like is Malachi Richardson. He’s been getting a ton of minutes recently (>35 minutes in 8 of his last 10) and he gets a great matchup against a lacking defense in NC State (22nd ranked scoring defense). This game doesn’t have a great O/U, but the line is close so I think his minutes are safe in this one. I have a feeling that the Wolfpack will focus most of their attention on Richardson’s backcourt mate Gbinije, leaving Richardson plenty of opportunity to have a solid game in this one.

Gabe York
FD - 6700 DK - 6500
Another guy who’s been getting a ton of minutes as of late is Gabe York of the Arizona Wildcats. He’s been averaging over 33 mpg in his last 10 games, and has been pretty productive in the majority of those matchups. I’ve already mentioned that this game has one of the highest O/U’s on the early slate so York has a great chance of playing a lot of meaningful minutes in this one. Another benefit for York is that Utah doesn’t have a great perimeter defense, so I’d get York into as many lineups as you can.

Craig Sword
FD - 7100 DK - 6800
I know this will be the third straight guard I’ve recommended in the mid-price range, but hey sometimes that’s just how it goes. Craig Sword is a Mississippi State guy who has been incredibly consistent as of late, hitting at least 3.5x value in 6 of his last 10 games. Finding a guy with a solid floor is key when building your lineup around higher-risk, higher-reward type guys, and Sword is about as safe as they come. Combine that with the fact that he’s playing in a game with a great O/U actually gives him a bit more upside than normal as well. I like him in all formats.

Consider Malik Beasley, Michael Humphrey, and Vince Edwards for the mid-afternoon slate.

Lower Tier

Daniel Dingle
FD - 4600
Value plays on this slate are gross again, so I’ll try to keep it brief (mainly due to lack of injuries that increase lower-priced players minutes). Dingle is a guy who has seen at least 30 minutes in 4 of his last 5, and that’s all you can really ask for from a guy who’s in this price range. UCF has a pretty suspect defense (scoring defense ranked 196th in the country) so Dingle is a low-priced guy who could hit value.

Sammy Barnes-Thompkins
FD - 4600 DK - 4500
Same story, different player for Sammy Barnes-Thompkins. He’s been getting a ton of minutes as of late, and has hit 4x value in 4 of his last 10. Georgia Tech isn’t a defensive juggernaut by any stretch of the imagination, so Barnes-Thompkins has a chance to have some good production in this one.

Beejay Anya
FD - 4900 DK - 4500
Definitely a tournament option only, Beejay Anya is a low priced big who anchors NC State’s (terrible) defense. He doesn’t score a ton, but he does rebound and block shots at an above average rate, so there is some upside here. Syracuse does not have any exceptional big men, so Anya could see increased minutes if he can stay out of foul trouble. By no means a safe pick, but I could see a solid stat line here.

Consider Marcus Allen and Shannon Hale for the mid-afternoon slate.
