Welcome back to another night of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. A fairly quiet night in the NHL tonight with only five games on the schedule. There are, however, some terrific matchups with huge playoff implications. In the eastern Conference both the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins are in action and in a heated race for the wild card spot. Out in the West the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blakchawks will face off in a battle for the Central Division lead. The teams are currently tied with 88 points which leads the Western Conference.

If you have any questions throughout the day be sure to join the conversation in the comments section below. Also, be sure to check LeftWingLock to get confirmation on all of the starting goalies for Thursday. Now onto the picks.

Goaltenders

Marc-Andre Fleury
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 9500 DK - 8200

The Penguins enter a favorable matchup on Friday as they face the Blue Jackets who sit in the basement of the Eastern Conference. The Penguins are in need of a win as they sit just three points clear of Philadelphia for the final wild card spot in the East. Fleury had some hard luck against the Jackets back in November as he lost both games stopping 67 of 71 shots. The Penguins are a much better team now and won't lose three in a row to a weaker opponent.

Jake Allen
Opponent - ANA
FD - 9400 DK - 7700

It has been a very odd return from injury for Jake Allen. After missing more than a month he returned and lost his first three games having not faced more than 23 shots in either of those games. Since then he has been red hot winning four straight while facing no less than 32 shots in a game. I guess he just needs the volume. The Ducks present a tough test for the Blues on Friday but have lost two straight after a long win streak. Look for the Blues to take advantage and stay in the battle for the Central Division lead.

Also Consider - Louis Domingue - Arizona Coyotes @ CGY

CENTER

Sidney Crosby
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 9700 DK - 7800

Sid has been rolling at an elite level for some time now and comes into this game riding a six game win streak. Three of those games have been multi point efforts and he has added an impressive +8 rating. Even with a horribly slow start to the season he has still totaled 66 points in 65 games this season and will look to put the Pens on his back as they attempt to hold off the Flyers in the Eastern Conference wild card playoff race. He is a bit better value on DraftKings tonight costing 16% of your salary vs. 18% on FanDuel.

Stack with - Patric Hornqvist, Chris Kunitz

David Backes
Opponent - ANA
FD - 6300 DK - 5100

On a normal slate I would normally avoid a game with a such a low projected total but with only five games we need to dig deep and find value. Backes comes at an affordable mid range price and enters this game riding a four game point streak. In those games he has also added 16 shots on goal. He is currently skating on the third line but is currently cemented on the top PP unit which should get a few extra opportunities tonight as the Ducks rank 2nd in PIMs per game.

Stack with - Jori Leherta, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz

Also Consider - Claude Giroux - Philadelphia Flyers @ TB

WINGERS

Patrick Kane
Opponent - DAL
FD - 8600 DK - 8600

Kane is having an incredible MVP type season for the Blackhawks. In his 9th season in the league he has already set new career highs in goals(38) and points(89) which also leads the league. He is coming off a game where he was held pointless but never fear. He hasn't gone two straight games without recording a point since mid December. The Hawks should be able to take advantage of a struggling Stars team who have lost seven of their last 10 games and rank 23rd in goals allowed per game.

Stack with - Artemi Panarin, Artem Anisimov

Valeri Nichushkin
Opponent - CHI
FD - 3700 DK - 4200

The lac of offensive production isn't exactly what fantasy owners expected but the opportunity continues to be there. He has been moved around on multiple lines but seems to have settled in nicely on the 2nd line with Jason Spezza who is red hot at the moment. In Nich's last 10 games he has tallied five points(one on the PP) and added 25 shots and six blocks. On a small slate he makes a great play in any format around the $4K mark on both sites.

Stack with - Jason Spezza, Brett Ritchie

DEFENSE

Kris Letang
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 7700 DK - 7000

As mentioned with Fleury and Crosby, the Pens have a favorable matchup vs. the Blue Jackets on Friday. Whenever the Penguins are scoring goals, Letang always seems to find his way on the score sheet. He has been extremely consistent with 10 points in his last 10 games with 32 shots on goal, 13 blocks and an impressive +8 rating. He ranks 4th among defensemen in points this season and have averaged over 4 FP per game on both sites.

Kris Russell
Opponent - CHI
FD - 4100 DK - 4500

The Dallas Stars have been hit hard with injuries to D men lately. They have lost Jordie Benn, John Klingberg and most recently, Jason Demers. The acquired Kris Russell from the Flames at the trade deadline and he has proven to be an excellent asset. After being held pointless in his first two games he has gone back to back games with an assist and seen his ice time rise from 18 min to 27 with the injuries. He provides extra value on DraftKings as he gets rewarded for blocks. he has tallied 12 in the previous three games.

Also Consider - Michael Stone - Arizona Coyotes @ CGY

  1. most favorable stack or match ups today? Liking CHI and DAL, they’ll be wanting to secure a win being tied up in points. Spezza and Russell are only on my radar for DAL at the moment. Any other stacks/players you feel good about today in the other games?

  2. My 3 fav stacks tonight are:

PIT 1 – Sid, Horn, Kunitz
PHI 1 – Giroux, Simmonds, Schenn, Ghost Bear
CHI 1 – Kane, Panarin, Anisimov

    Next tier I like:
    TB2 – Johnson, Palat, Kucherov
    DAL 2 – Spezz, Nich
STL PP – Tarasenko, Backes, Schwartz

  3. I really like STL PP as Ducks rank 2nd in most PIMs per game.

I think PHI/Tb could be high scoring and would stack either team.

DAL/CHI could be low scoring as it is a battle for 1st in division but Dallas has been awful defensively and are hurting with injuries in back end.

  4. no mention of CGY/ARI forwards? both teams are atrocious on the PK… am I thinking too much into this or should I be avoiding this game?

  5. Thinking ducks ppl perron fowler Perry combined 7 goals 6 assists last 5 games

  6. I like the above stats but would love some feedback on the following stacks tonight:

    Arizona 1 – Duclair, Tanguay, Vermette = $13,800
    Calgary 1 – Gaudreau, Monahan, Colborne = $19,500

    Thoughts?

    • On those two stacks who do put on D and between the pipes?

      • In my opinion without O Eckman Larson to quarter back the offense, Arizona should be picked on heavily, especially considering it’s on Calgary’s home turf. Ferland is a cheap option less than $4,000 and on the first line with Gadreau n Monahan….hope this helps.

  7. Sorry for the absence today . Busy In meetings. Great discussion. I will have a few shares of Arizona and Calgary but limited. I like Domingue for a low owned GPP goalie

  8. The flames are always a good pick at home. Just going a different direction myself tonight.

  9. I went with Robinsons stack in two lineups tonight. In my other two I decided to gamble and go with Pitt1 and Tampa2 since it won me so much last time and then Phil1 and Dall2. The other day I didn’t win and barely broke even last night. Looking for a winner winner chicken dinner tonight!
