Goaltenders

Jonathan Quick
Opponent - NJ
FD - 8600 DK - 8400

The Kings are the biggest favorites on the board tonight as they are home to the New Jersey Devils. Quick gets an excellent matchup as the Devils are dead last in offense, only scoring an average of 2.19 goals per game. He has also been terrific lately going 6-2 in his last eight games. He does lack upside for tournaments as the Kings rank near the bottom in shots against per game but he makes an excellent cash game option with a high probability for a win.

Cam Talbot
Opponent - ARI
FD - 8300 DK - 7100

This will be my GPP gem for tonight. Normally when you think Oilers games you think high scoring and no goaltending. This has not been this case this season with Talbot. He has been very impressive with a .920 save % on the season on a poor team. He has also been red hot lately winning five of his last six starts and only allowing more than 1 goal once. He gets a favorable matchup at home Saturday night vs. the Coyotes who he has already beaten once this season. High upside as the Oilers allow the 4th most shots against per game.

Also Consider - Pekka Rinne - Nashville Predators @ VAN

CENTER

Connor McDavid
Opponent - ARI
FD - 7100 DK - 7100

The Oilers rookie superstar has been terrific since returning from injury following the All Star break. He has tallied 23 points in 20 games with a +3 rating. He broke out of a two game pointless streak last game with a goal vs. the Wild in a 2-1 win on Thursday. He gets a great matchup on Saturday night at home vs. the Coyotes who rank dead last in goals allowed per game. Be sure to check LeftWingLock prior to game time to see the line combinations for today as the Oilers shook it up last game and had Taylor Hall on a line with McDavid.

Stack with - Taylor Hall, Zack Kassian, Jordan Eberle(PP)

Zack Smith
Opponent - TOR
FD - 5600 DK - 4100

He is one of the top value plays tonight in an elite matchup at home vs. the Leafs. Smith has been playing great lately and producing consistently for fantasy. He has scored in four straight and has points in seven straight games now and provides a very safe floor averaging around 2.5 shots on goal per game. The Senators top producing line make s a very affordable line stack on Saturday leaving room to pay up for a top goalie and another top line stack.

Stack with - Mark Stone, Jean-Gabriel Pageu

Also Consider - Mark Scheifele - Winnipeg Jets vs. COL

WINGERS

Max Pacioretty
Opponent - MIN
FD - 7300 DK - 7100

The Habs have dug themselves a big hole and sit eight points out of a playoff spot in the eastern Conference with 14 games remaining in the regular season. If they are to make a charge they will need their top line to stay hot and carry the offensive load. Pacioretty has been extremely consistent with 10 points in his last 10 games with 37 shots on goal, 9 blocks and a +5 rating. With Galchenyuk scoring two goals in each of the last three games you can bet the Habs line stack will be highly owned tonight. Great option for cash games but to differentiate yourself in tournaments it might be wise to fade them.

Stack with - Alex Galchenyuk, Sven Andrighetto

Jaromir Jagr
Opponent - PHI
FD - 5700 DK - 5500

In his age 43 season, Jagr has again put up 50 points in the NHL. It is the 20th time in his career to do so which is just mind blowing when you think about it. He is coming off a two goal game vs. the Sens and has 11 points in his last 10 games with a +5 rating for the Panthers. He recently moved into third all time in points with only Messier and the Great One ahead of him. What could have been had he not missed 3 season playing in Europe?

Stack with - Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau

DEFENSE

Erik Karlsson
Opponent - TOR
FD - 6700 DK - 8000

He has been slumping lately with only five points in his last 10 games and has recorded a horrible -10 rating for the Sens. My hope is that most people will see this and pivot to Burns or another option just below. This is a terrific matchup for Karlsson at home vs. the Leafs who rank 24th in goals allowed per game. In three previous meetings with the Leafs this season he has tallied seven assists and will look to add to that total tonight.

Michael Stone
Opponent - EDM
FD - 3600 DK - 4900

Always a terrific low end value play at the point. He is grossly under priced and safe for all formats even with minimal offensive upside. The Coyotes are missing Oliver Ekman-Larson which has given some extra opportunities to Stone. He is currently averaging around 24 minutes of ice time per game and adding a nice floor with over 2.5 shots on goal. He makes a great pairing with a high priced D man(ie. Karlsson) leaving enough room to get some nice line stacks on your roster.

Also Consider - Tyson Barrie - Colorado Avalanche @ WPG

  • Chris - great pick with Domingue last night. He was less than 5% owned in most of my contests. He also shutdown the 60-65% owned Gaudreau. A double wammy that helped me make a few bucks last night.

Quick question: do you always stack two lines when making a lineup or sometimes one line with a mix and match from other teams?

Here is a cash game play I am thinking for tonight:
MON1 + Huberdeau, Stone, Spezza, Karlsson, Shattenkirk and Quick. Feedback?

    Thanks as always!

  • I don't always stack two lines. Sometimes two guys from three different teams. It changes depending on the night.

MON 1 will be high owned tonight but hard to fade.

  • Hi Chris, been followong your advice with hockey all welek and have made some good profit.

Just a question, how do you go about picking a util player? Especially when you have like 4.5k left to spend.

  • Great question. I look for a player who is playing in a top 6 role for his team. Tonight for example I like Drew Stafford. He plays with Wheeler and Scheifele and will get opportunities. I also like Nichushkin playing with Spezza but my favorite is Zack Smith on the Sens at home to the Leafs

  • Not sure I like MON tonight. They're bound to come down to earth and I think it'll be tonight. Kuemper did well against them last out. Plus it's a 6pm game stacking early could burn your lineup out fast if it doesn't pan out. I could see fading MON.

  • Scratch that it'll be Dubnyk between the pipes. He's coming back from illness I think

  • And they will be high owned as well. Fading MON might be the best route tonight. I love OTT as my favorite value stack (smith, pagueu, stone) and this could be the night that OTT1 comes back to life

  • I don't think picking at least one from the top line of MON would be bad but I personally won't be stacking them tonight.

  • Definitely agree with the OTT picks Chris, they're just cheap enough to add some big priced guys as well. Have some NSH's in play too. I could see MON going off there's no question but I'm not just feeling them tonight.

  • I did very well last night. I'm looking to capitalize. Which lines we going with tonight?
