Daily Fantasy Baseball News and Updates for FanDuel and DraftKings - 4/14/16

Welcome to the daily MLB updates and news article. We'll try and update it right up to line-up locks with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!

Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock today.

By the way - we keep our projection system updated with all of the batting lineup changes as they occur throughout the day right up until lineup lock. Every day. If you want access to that system so you can cut out a lot of the research element, click the button below!

    What We Know

The weather is clear all around, and with a day-heavy split slate ahead, the a.m. forecasts are that much more reliable, so go ahead and feel free to choose from any game on the slate. There are some wind patterns that could suppress power in some venues, but notably, not at Coors Field where a nice breeze is expected to be drifting out to right-center.

    Personnel:

    • Stephen Strasburg could be a risky play if we don't hear something soon. He missed Wednesdsay's start due to a lingering illness, and though the Nats were hopeful he'd be able to take the hill Thursday, there's been no further update. The Braves and Nats are the last game on the early slate with a 4:05 p.m. first pitch, so stay tuned for updates.
    • Buster Posey remained out of the lineup Wednesday night due to a foot injury and there's no word on his status as of this morning. It could be cutting it close, but we should have San Fran's lineup before lock today, so keep an eye out for that. In his absence, Trevor Brown has been crushing. Brown was never much of an offensive factor in the minors, but if he's playing in Coors, he's in play for DFS. He's been added to the player base at FanDuel ($2,800).
    • Lineups are starting to trickle in, but there's been no major news so far; mostly just bottom-of-the-order guys getting the day off. Keep an eye on the catchers, though. We could see a few get a break today with so many day games following night games. We already Pittsburgh's Francisco Cervelli will be getting the day off.

    Tournament Stacks

    Colorado Rockies
Over the last two days we've hedged our bets and given both sides of this matchup. That remains the safe way to play it today, but we're stepping out and giving the Rockies preference today, because we're pretty enthusiastic about the matchup with Matt Cain. As we wrote last night, Cain doesn't strike guys out and gives up a lot of fly balls, which is a dangerous combo in Colorado. He also mixes in a curve ball as his third pitch, and Coors Field is where curve balls go to catch the Darryl Kile Express to the outfield bleachers. You'll have to have somebody smarter than me explain the physics of that to you.

    St. Louis Cardinals
This one's all about poor Wily Peralta. Picking on him has produced nice profits over the last year or so, and we're going back to the well again today with as many left-handed bats as we can get. The Cardinals have the scattered all over the lineup, and some really affordable options, to boot, which could make them a popular choice for mixing and matching with your Coors Field guys, who will come a cost.

    Sneaky Pitcher

    Jaime GarciaJaime Garcia

Philadelphia's Vincent Velasquez will probably be the choice among most DFSers looking to pivot away from the top-tier arms today, and we like him, too, especially as a tournament play. We like Garcia a hair more on a raw points basis and as a cash gamer based on his win probability and safety. The Cardinals opened as a -200 favorite, and Garcia is a good bet to go six-plus innings, which should give him a good chance to snag the W and the points that come with it. He doesn't strike out a ton, so his ceiling is somewhat limited, but Milwaukee has plenty of guys with ugly K rates, so Garcia should post respectable numbers there, as well.

    The "Every Lineup" Guys

    Carlos GonzalezCarlos Gonzalez

Hitting in the heart of the order in what should be the highest-scoring game of the day, CarGo is an optimal mix of upside and safety. He's not cheap, but if you're saving on pitching you should be able to fit him given some of the other discout bats on the slate.

    Brandon MossBrandon Moss

He's coming cheap and batting cleanup against Wily Peralta, which on its own makes him an excellent value. Toss in Moss' .222 career ISO against lefties and you've got yourself a very tantalizing play, especially in tournaments.

One other note: There are big differences between DraftKings and FanDuel pricing so the optimal lineups are looking quite different.

These are players that show up in each of the top 10 lineups as produced by our lineup optimizer. This doesn't necessarily mean that they're "safe," it just means that their projected weighted-mean point total is a solid building block for a great lineup foundation today.

Good luck out there today! If you want access to all of our numbers, get started with a free trial below of our lineup optimizer, on us!

    1. What are some good stacks for late games top 3 late game stacks

      • Dodgers are coming highly recommended, especially on DK.

    2. Zimmerman is pitching for Wash. Doug or anyone else, what do you think?

    3. are the picks and optimizer more for cash or GPP’s?

    4. Zimmerman on WAS is 1st baseman, better options today with him facing a RHP

    5. Need some help here…..is Hundley playing today? And if not when did we know he was out?…anybody?

      • He’s out. Not sure exactly when they posted the lineup, but it was cutting it close with lineup lock. I’m always wary of catchers on a day game after a night game on sites that don’t allow late swaps.

    6. Velazquez!! Thx for the suggestion guys! Really loving this site

    7. Yes, Valezquez/Pomeranz did well for me but I think someone flipped the off switch at Coors today. Such a strange park. The numbers don’t lie about that place but it seems that it is either football score or soccer score there.

    8. picks and optimizer for cash or gpps primarily?

    9. SO I had Michael Taylor and Hundley in my lineup. What a waste. Baseball sucks hard.

    10. Why no talk for tonight’s games???

    11. Top pitchers for the 4:07 slate?

    12. I really wish you guys would do separate article’s on days of split slates. I looked at today’s picks for tonight, as I can only play p.m. slates and it’s pretty barren. You skipped as completely (I know you guys hate the position, but I usually love at least one or two everyday 🙂 yesterday it was hardy!!) But if you did separate article’s you could be more thorough and give everyone what they want, lol which is always more of a great thing!!!

    13. Hey Russell Martins price is 1000 off in the optimizer!!

    14. Yeah he should be 3600 not 2600. Check FD!

    15. FantasyAces L/U for tonight. Good luck everyone!

    16. I’m not having very good luck with the optimizer on baseball all week I’ve not had a very good score at all on 50/50 games or double UPS not doing good don’t understand what I’m doing wrong using lineups that are coming up

    17. Anyone see that jerk that bought 158 tickets and won 30k!! Cheesus crust!

    18. The optimal is good on basketball but it’s totally trash on baseball I haven’t even won in the double ups or 50/50’s in over a week

    19. Alonzo….use your own head man. The optimizer is a guide, not a black and white moneymaker. This site is by far the best for advice and interaction with others that is actually positive. The optimizer is a tool for value, not the be-all-end-all bottom line. I think Doug and company deserve some props….now I only wish I could carry my early slate scores into the late slate for today.

    20. Anthony I’ve been on this site since the beginning I’ve won over 100k with them in basketball but baseball is another story believe me the optimal device is a great basketball tool but trash for baseball

    21. What’s the point in doing anything other than reading the comments then, the optimal lineup is supposed to be good for 50/50 and I agree they are really good at basketball but not too tough on bball. I feel like if you pay for something and aren’t getting what you think you deserve you have the right to your opinion

    22. And Alonzo if you are up over 100k what kind of money are you putting in every night. Wow

    23. Well Kyle I play about $50 a night but I’ve won 8 tournaments over the last 18 months going back to last years allstar game I won my fist 2 tournaments a week before allstar break and I will admit when it comes to basketball these guys are golden but baseball there just ok LBVS. And also I don’t recommend anyone bet 250-350 a week on fantasy sports I’m just blessed to be able to afford that seeing as tho I have a 6 figure income yearly I’m a true basketball and football guy but I tend to baddle in other sports now and then one thing for sure I’m a true fantasy sports guy true to heart I just love to win hate to loss and will settle for breaking even I use there service and 3 others but mainly there’s and I’ll stick bye my statements that there great at basketball but not at baseball

    24. Doug a lot of people are complaing about the baseball scores I am not trying to be one I just want to know how to use tool . Basketball is easy and you are really interactive over there. Here though it’s sort of a different beast. I for one am playing baseball due to you killing it on basketball : so could you give some of us a tip or two because I got killed this week at baseball .

    25. Agreed I’m throwing around the same in, 2 27s a night but can’t figure out to hit in a tourney on dk. Any advice on what to do with the lineups to make them better for tourneys in basketball. Congrats on all the winnings

    26. Quick question do we have to pay taxes on all we win ? Or just what we cash out I just looked at my winnings and I am over 10k but I’ve only cashed out 2 k I’m screwed if I have to pay taxes on the 10 k lol

    27. The other 8 k I just rolled back in its not in my fan duel bank

    28. Yes you have to pay taxes on the winnings you get a tax form from fanduel I got mines about 3 weeks ago

    29. Yea mike I saw that dude , that’s crazy he musta won over 50k yesterday crazy . How the hell u guys winning so much $$$? U win tourney in nba w optimizer ? Like running a few lines
