Daily Fantasy Soccer Picks for the English Premier League - DraftKings 5/07/16

Once again we have a full fixture list this Premier League weekend and the majority of sides have just two League games remaining. Top of the table, Leicester City secured the Premier League title after Tottenham failed to be Chelsea on Monday evening and Leicester’s League success has been sounded out as the biggest shock in sporting history. Claudio Ranieri’s side may have already won the Premier League title, but there’s still plenty to play for at the top and bottom of the table.

    Goalkeepers

    Thibaut Courtois – DK $3,700
    Opponent – Sunderland
After receiving a straight red card against Manchester City two weeks ago, Courtois has been suspended for Chelsea’s previous two matches but is set to return in goal this weekend versus Sunderland. At $3,700, Courtois offers excellent value given the opposition he faces. Sunderland are 18th in the Premier League table and subsequently, a Chelsea victory is likely. This is significant, because goalkeepers receive five points if their side wins and a further side if they keep a clean sheet, therefore a strong goalkeeper is essential. Sunderland have struggled at home this season, they’ve only won four of their 17 home matches and have only scored 17 goals at the Stadium of Light.

    Ben Foster – DK $3,400
    Opponent – Bournemouth
Is your side slightly over budget with Courtois in goal? Then Ben Foster is a good alternative option at $3,400 and the Englishman also offers good value, similarly to Courtois. Admittedly, Bournemouth aren’t the easiest of opposition, however West Brom are a very good side defensively. They’ve conceded just 46 this all season, of the sides in the bottom half of the table, only Watford have conceded fewer. Interestingly, Bournemouth have a poor record at home and subsequently, Ben Foster is good goalkeeping option this weekend.

    Defenders

    Daryl Janmaat – DK 3,500
    Opponent – Aston Villa
As usual, I’m very keen to oppose Aston Villa this weekend and first of all we have Newcastle defender, Daryl Janmaat. The Dutch international has averaged 8.9 points per game this season which is excellent for a player valued at $3,500, playing the worst side in the League. Janmaat will inevitably have numerous opportunities to get forward against Villa and deliver crosses into the box, this is where he’s earned the majority of his points this season. A clean sheet is also on the cards as Aston Villa have only scored 14 goals this season and this would earn Janmaat an extra three points.

    Charlie Daniels – DK 3,900
    Opponent – West Brom
Charlie Daniels has been one of the top point-scoring defenders this season and at $3,900 he’s being undervalued this weekend. First of all, he faces West Brom who are one of the worst attacking sides in the Premier League and as a result, a clean sheet is a possibility. Furthermore, Daniels is excellent going forward, he’s delivered 123 crosses this season and this has played a big role in his point-scoring. These crosses have resulted in 5 assists which are worth six points each and he’s also scored three goals which is a great return for a full-back.

    Midfielders

    Eden Hazard – DK 5,500
    Opponent – Sunderland
Despite some inconsistent performances this season, Eden Hazard is without a doubt my best value selection in this slate. He’s only averaged 6.9 points per game this campaign, but he’s been plagued with injuries, however recently Hazard has showed some promising signs. He came off the bench against Tottenham on Monday evening and produced an excellent performance. The Belgian international scored an incredible 21 points in the 45 minutes he feature in and this should give him a lot of confidence. This performance should result in Hazard starting versus Sunderland who are regarded as one of the worst sides in the Premier League defensively.

    Yohan Cabaye – DK 5,800
    Opponent – Stoke City
Yohan Cabaye has been an excellent performer on DraftKings this season and I’m happy to field him again at $5,800. Cabaye has averaged an amazing 13.5 points per game this season and has been an incredibly consistent performer. He takes the corners for Crystal Palace which has played a big part in his success from a DraftKings perspective. The Frenchman also takes all of Crystal Palace’s free-kicks as well as their penalties. This is significant because goals are worth 10 points each and as a result scoring a penalty is very valuable.

    Forwards

    Andy Carroll – DK 5,200
    Opponent – Swansea City
Onto the forwards and first up we have West Ham striker Andy Carroll who has been in great form as of late. He’s scored ten points or more in each of his last four fixtures and this includes 44 points in a single game against Arsenal, thus indicating what an excellent point-scorer he can be. The Englishman has scored six goals and assisted one in his last six appearances and he’ll be motivated to score again as he looks to secure an unlikely call up to the England squad. Finally, Carroll faces weak opposition in the form of Swansea City and as a result there’s every chance he’ll get a goal this weekend.

Papiss Demba Cisse – DK 3,900
    Opponent – Aston Villa
Papiss Cisse is a great attacking option at a cheap price and I’d definitely advise fielding the Newcastle forward in the GPP tournaments. Aston Villa have conceded 72 goals this campaign and subsequently Newcastle will have numerous opportunities to score against the worst side in the Premier League by some distance. The majority of those chances will fall to Cisse who is clinical in front of goal. He’s been out injured for a lot of this season, but he recently scored against Liverpool and I suspect he’ll score against Aston Villa on Saturday given their defensive frailties.

    Utilities

    Jordan Ayew – DK 4,300
    Opponent – Newcastle
It’s been the worst season in Aston Villa’s Premier League history, but Jordan Ayew has been one player who has performed to a Premier League standard. He’s averaged 8.4 points per game this season and has a home match versus Newcastle United are marginally better than Villa. He’s scored seven goals thus far this campaign and has scored 9 or more points in his last seven match which shows the consistency he offers in terms of DraftKing points.

    Jeffrey Schlupp – DK 3,300
    Opponent – Everton
Finally, we have Jeffrey Schlupp who I’d advise waiting on team news before fielding the Leicester winger. He’s priced at a very cheap $3,300 and this is because he’s spent the majority of the season on the side-lines. Since his return from injury, he’s only started two Premier League matches but nevertheless they’ve resulted in impressive performances. In these two matches, Schlupp has scored 17 and 11 points which is a very good return for a player valued at $3,300.
