Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Jon Lester and Christian Friedrich in the Main Article. And will be going over a few more options below.

Steven MatzSteven Matz FD 9700 DK 10400
Opponent - PIT (Niese) Park - @PIT
FD - 33.57 DK - 17.99

Jon Lester is the clear-cut top option going up against the Phillies, but the next best option is Steven Matz! Matz will be going up against the Pirates, which isn't the best of matchups, but there aren't a ton of great options on the slate and he is the next best pitcher.

On the year, Matz is sporting a 2.60 ERA that is backed up by a 2.85 FIP. This kid has been excellent for the Mets, so don't worry too much about a matchup against the Pirates. He also has upside as he owns a 24.1 K% and the Pirates own a 23.8 K% (6th in MLB) against left-handed pitching. While Lester is the top pitching option, you can't go wrong with Matz for tournaments or as a SP2 option if you can find some nice value bats.

Michael FulmerMichael Fulmer FD 8000 DK 9900
Opponent - TOR (Happ) Park - @DET
FD - 29.98 DK - 15.24

Michael Fulmer against the Blue Jays? I don't ever argue with our system, so I will back it up on this call. The Blue Jays are well -- the Blue Jays. They hit for power and they strikeout a ton. They are coming into this contest sporting a 22.9 K% (9th in MLB). With power comes strikeouts, which will benefit Fulmer in this contest.

Our system is all over the Tigers in this contest. This righty-heavy lineup will be facing J.A. Happ (a lefty), so they have them scoring a ton! Run support is a pitchers best friend (so are double plays), so look for Fulmer to pitch comfortably in this one. They like Fulmer's chances of picking up a W, so this makes him a nice tournament play or SP2 option.

Fulmer has been fantastic so far this season. He is coming into this contest sporting a 25.4 K%, which means only one thing -- upside! He also owns a 3.39 xFIP (which shows how good this kid has been) and he owns a 49.6 GB% (will help him limit the long ball). Our system loves Fulmer, so don't argue with the call and get some exposure to him.

Chris ArcherChris Archer FD 9000 DK 7900
Opponent - ARI (Ray) Park - @ARI
FD - 31.7 DK - 16.64

Warning: tournament play only.

Chris Archer has not been well -- Chris Archer. He owns a 4.59 FIP and 1.52 WHIP. Those are definitely not some numbers we expect from Archer, but he's either been really good or really bad, which is why Archer is only in play for tournaments. So why I'm I recommending Archer you may ask yourself? And it's because of his upside.

While he has not been the same Archer we are all accustomed to seeing, he is still fanning hitters left-and-right. He owns a 25.5 K% and owns a 10.31 K/9. A matchup against the Diamondbacks will also help him out, as they own a 22.2 K% (11th in MLB) against right-handed pitchers. He has a low floor but an extremely high ceiling, so I will take my chances with him in a couple of lineups. Limit your exposure, please.

  1. What is the feeling on Shoemaker vs the Yanks?

    • For the price on DK I don’t mind Bolsinger as a cash game play considering the ML and the matchup

  2. I really like shoemaker a lot. He’s came threw for me. However I don’t like him playing in ny tonight for some reason.

    • Probably the Shoemaker is a RP playing Yankee stadium against a Yankee lineup with a lot of lefties. Yankee stadium has a very favorable short porch to right field. He has 34%fly rate and a 30% hard contact rate. From an Angels fan, Shoemaker is due to get shelled. Tonight might be the night and yanks make for a sneaky stack in my opinion.

  3. Is anyone worried about matz with rain in Pitt?
