BMW International Open

Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof - Pulheim, Germany

Par 72 - 7,229 Yards

After another fantastic major championship in the books the European Tour is back at it this week for the BMW International Open hosted by Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof in Pulheim, Germany. The course is Par 72 that stretches 7,229 yards and is the only Jack Nicklaus designed course in Germany. All types of players are capable of winning here but accuracy and precision will be rewarded as Jack designed the course around his motto "A Good Shot should not be Punished". I will be looking very closely at Driving Accuracy, Greens in Regulation, Putts per GIR and Scoring Average. It is very important to note that this will be only the third time this tournament has been played here with 2014 and 2012 being the first two times Gut Laerchenhof has been host. I have labeled these two years on the cheatsheet and using just these two years results in the model this week. Current form will be extremely important and weighed heavily in my model.

  • Driving Distance
  • Driving Accuracy
  • Greens in Regulation
  • Stroke Average
  • Sand Saves
  • Scrambling
  • Putts Per GIR
  • Putts Per Round

My European Tour cheatsheet will be included in the $5 price of my regular PGA Premium content. If you have any questions about the article, cheatsheet, or anything fantasy golf hit me up on Twitter(Jager_Bombs9) or leave your questions in the comments section below.

High End Targets ($9,000+)

Henrik Stenson
Vegas Odds - 9/1
Draftkings - $10,800

There are three well known names at the top but Stenson is my favorite despite the withdraw at last weeks US Open. He was 10 over par through 16 holes on Friday and would have had to finish his second round Saturday morning without much of a chance of making the cut. He chose to head to Germany a little early. He is the most accurate driver in the field this week ranking 7th and also ranks 5th in greens in regulation. He has finished Top 10 in this event in each of the last five years including a 2nd and 6th place finish the other two years Gut Laerchenhof has hosted the tournament.

  • Driving Accuracy - 7
  • Greens in Regulation - 5
  • Stroke Average - 241
  • Scrambling - 15
  • Putts Per GIR - 6
  • Putts Per Round - 21

Tyrell Hatton
Vegas Odds - 33/1
Draftkings - $9,500

He comes in second in my model which is weighted heavy on current form this week. He has been on fire since the end of April with five straight Top 20 finishes including two Top 10's and a Top 5. He is solid across all stats besides Sand Saves which isn't a concern this week and he finished 47th in last years event and 22nd in 2014, the last time the event was held at Gut Laerchenhof. He is playing with confidence right now and is safe play in any format.

  • Driving Accuracy - 52
  • Greens in Regulation - 44
  • Stroke Average - 5
  • Scrambling - 17
  • Putts Per GIR - 23
  • Putts Per Round - 67

Also Consider - Ross Fisher

Mid Tier Targets ($7,000 - $9,000)

Fabrizio Zanotti
Vegas Odds - 66/1
Draftkings - $7,800

This pick is directly tied to course history more than anything. He won this event back in 2014 when it was last held at Gut Laerchenhof and also finished 12th in 2012. He has missed the all other times the event was not held here. So why does he doe so well here? I mentioned accuracy earlier and Zanotti is ranked 9th on the Euro Tour in Driving Accuracy. He has been up and down this season but the form isn't too shabby with two Top 10's in his last four events including the BMW PGA Championship a few weeks ago. At a salary under $8K he is safe in all formats.

  • Driving Accuracy - 9
  • Greens in Regulation - 51
  • Stroke Average - 80
  • Scrambling - 157
  • Putts Per GIR - 138
  • Putts Per Round - 163

Haotong Li
Vegas Odds - 100/1
Draftkings - $7,700

A unknown for those fairly new to European Tour golf(myself included) whichcoudl ultimately make him an extremely low owned option. He is coming off a fantastic month of May where he made three of four cuts including a win at the Volvo China Open, a 18th place finish at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and a T27 at the BMW PGA Championship. The 21 year old is regarded as China's next sporting super star and he is quickly drawing worldwide attention to himself. With his elite accuracy look for him to find his away around the course efficiently and as he looks to contend at another event early in his career.

  • Driving Accuracy - 17
  • Greens in Regulation - 214
  • Stroke Average - 13
  • Scrambling - 123
  • Putts Per GIR - 24
  • Putts Per Round - 5

Also Consider - Alex Cejka

Low End Target (Min Price - $6,900)

Mark Foster
Vegas Odds - 300/1
Draftkings - $6,300

This is a complete punt play for me this week. The 41 year old veteran is an accuracy type player who has made the cut four of the last five years at the BMW International Open including a 22nd in 2014 and 18th in 2012 when Gut Laerchenhof last hosted the event. After missing six straight cuts since February he broke through with a T19 two weeks ago at the Lyoness Open. I am picking him in hopes of returning to that Top 25 form he has shown here in Germany in the past.

  • Driving Accuracy - 50
  • Greens in Regulation - 142
  • Stroke Average - 205
  • Scrambling - 174
  • Putts Per GIR - 202
  • Putts Per Round - 157
