Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open

Castle Stuart Golf Links - Inverness, United Kingdom - Scotland

Par 72 - 7,193 Yards

Welcome back for another week of daily fantasy European Tour golf. This week the Scottish Open returns to Castle Stuart Golf Links where it hosted this event in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Phil Mickelson was the last winner here back in 2013 right before he went on to win the Open Championship and become the first player to do so. The course is a beautiful Links style golf course that overlooks the Moray Firth coastal landscape. At Par 72, 7,193 yards the length won't scare the shorter hitters but I always feel that distance can give you an advantage, especially if you are efficient in Total Driving as well(see Dustin Johnson's season!!). On any links course a players sand game, scrambling and putting will prove to be very important.

With the cancellation of the Greenbrier Classic due to flooding, this weeks field is very strong with a ton of top tier options and a great mix of mid range and low end value giving us many options for roster construction this week. It will also be the final week to to get on on some cheap satellites into the Millionaire Maker next week so be sure to check out those tournaments on DraftKings.

Here are a list of the stats that we have on the European Tour:

  • Driving Distance
  • Driving Accuracy
  • Greens in Regulation
  • Stroke Average
  • Sand Saves
  • Scrambling
  • Putts Per GIR
  • Putts Per Round

My European Tour cheatsheet will be included in the $5 price of my regular PGA Premium content. If you have any questions about the article, cheatsheet, or anything fantasy golf hit me up on Twitter(Jager_Bombs9) or leave your questions in the comments section below.

High End Targets ($9,000+)

Branden Grace
Vegas Odds - 12/1
Draftkings - $11,600

When looking at the top of the salary this week I feel Stenson and Grace stand above the rest. While both make great pieces to build around I will take the $600 discount and roll with Grace this week. He finished runner up to Phil Mickelson in 2013 after losing in a playoff and finished T17 last season when the event was held at Gullane Golf Course in East Lothian, Scotland. He is one of a few players who have recorded a win on both the PGA Tour(RBC Heritage) and the European Tour(Qatar Masters) and is having a fantastic season on both tours.

Patrick Reed
Vegas Odds - 28/1
Draftkings - $10,200

Reed is one of those players who will be participating in his first Scottish Open due to the cancellation of the Greenbrier Classic. His game fits what we are looking for in Links Golf with distance off the tee, ability to make birdies and a fantastic around the green game. He is ranked 8th on the PGA Tour in Scrambling, 20th in Sand Save %, and 3rd in Strokes Gained: Around the Green. Look for a strong effort from Reed in his first start at this event. With all the great options available in the top tier he could easily be one of the lowest owned options making him a great value for GPP formats.

Russell Knox
Vegas Odds - 33/1
Draftkings - $9,400

Knox is the highest priced golfer from Scotland this week and is one of the favorites to take home the title. He has never played this course in a Scottish Open but has had success in the event the last two years with finishes of T27 in 2014 and T10 last season. He is having a fantastic season to this point with a win on the PGA Tour(WGC-HSBC Champions) to go along with two runner ups and three Top 10 finishes. He isn't the longest off the tee but he hits a ton of greens in regulation(ranked 9th on PGA Tour) and also ranks in the Top 20 in Proximity. He is a terrific scrambler and while he is an average putter has the ability to turn it on for four days and contend.

Also Consider - Shane Lowry

Mid Tier Targets ($7,000 - $9,000)

Gregory Bourdy
Vegas Odds - 80/1
Draftkings - $7,600

I have been riding the Frenchmen for about a month now and have enjoyed a fatter wallet because of it. He has been extremely consistent finishing seven of his last nine tournaments inside the Top 25 with two Top 10's at the Lyoness Open and Irish Open. He is a shorter hitter off the tee but accurate as he ranks 23rd in Driving Accuracy, 33rd in GIR, and 19th in Stroke Average. He has missed the cut at the Scottish OPen in each of the last two years but has made the cut in all three years it was held here(49th in 2013, 52nd in 2012, 49th in 2011). While none of those finishes are eye popping his current form tells me he is going to blow those results away this week. He is safe in all formats.

Andrew Johnston
Vegas Odds - 66/1
Draftkings - $7,000

Andrew "Beef" Johnston became extremely popular after his win back in April where he claimed all he wanted to do was "Get hammered" with family and friends. Since that win he has put together some nice results with a T7 at the BMW PGA Championship and a T12 the next week at the Nordea Masters. He has a nice balance of distance(53rd) and accuracy(26th) combined with an excellent GIR game(17th). He finished 17th in last years Scottish Open and 36th back in 2012 in his only start at Castle Stuart Golf Links. If he can avoid the 19th hole and many beautiful beers in Scotland for four days he could very well sniff the leaderboard come Sunday.

Also Consider - Luke Donald

Low End Target (Min Price - $6,900)

Marc Warren
Vegas Odds - 100/1
Draftkings - $6,600

This pick comes with some risk as Warren hasn't been in the best of form although he has made four straight cuts. The Scot makes a great pick due to his amazing history in this event over the last five years. He finished 66th in 2011 but went to record finishes of T3, T38, 3rd, and T4 last year. He also doesn't rank high in distance or accuracy but is a terrific putter and makes a nice GPP stars and scrubs play in a somewhat home event.

Jorge Campillo
Vegas Odds - 250/1
Draftkings - $5,700

If you want to go extreme stars and scrubs and fit two of the big names in your lineup you are going to need to dip below $6K this week. Campillo stands out to me as a nice addition to GPP lineup with two Top 20 finishes in his last five events and has made the cut in five of his last seven. He is above average in driving distance and ranks 25th in stroke average and 17th in scrambling. He missed the cut here in 2012 but finished 42nd in 2013 the last time the Scottish Open was held here.

Also Consider - Jimmy Gunn
