Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 1/25/18

Hello hockey fans and welcome to another day of NHL action here at DFSR. Today is the last day before the All-Star break and we have a gigantic 15-game slate in store for us, which means that all but one team is playing today. Look for every single team to give it all they have before some well-deserved time off and I am super excited just thinking about tomorrow, so let's dive right into the picks.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Tuukka RaskTuukka Rask FD - $9400 DK - $8300
Opponent - OTT
Proj Pts FD - 14.35 DK - 3.59

Let's start this massive slate off with the veteran Finnish tender, who after a rather slow start to the season, has been on absolute fire in the last two months as he is 13-0-2 in his last 15 games. In the month of December, he went 9-0-1 with an unreal .955 save % and a 1.22 GAA, then in January, so far he is 5-0-1 with a .921 save % and a 2.21 GAA. The Bruins and their #1 defense travel to Ottawa to play the Senators, whose offense is ranked 24th and their powerplay unit is ranked 27th overall, and the star goalie has already defeated them twice this season while allowing only one goal and earning a shutout which happened to be in the very same building that they will be in this evening. Even though Rask is on the road, this is one of those circumstances where we just have to hop on board no matter what, so with all of these things considered, he is my top goalie and an elite play in all formats.

Carey PriceCarey Price FD - $8400 DK - $7900
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 17.24 DK - 4.31

After Rask, this position is very tough tonight as there are some great goalies in tough matchups or else below average goalies in half-decent matchups. If you want to get away from Rask for some reason, then why not take a shot at Price, who is coming off a huge victory to snap the Avalanche's 10-game winning streak by allowing two goals and he has already faced the Hurricanes once as he stopped 33 of 35 shots in Carolina in a close loss. The 'Canes are ranked 23rd offensively, but they fire an average of 34.3 shots on net per game, which is fourth in the league, so for your tournament lineups this evening, Price looks like a solid option.

Also Consider: Marc-Andre Fleury(VEG) in GPP formats only at home as big favorites

CENTERS

Tyler SeguinTyler Seguin FD - $7700 DK - $7500
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 15.04 DK - 4.47

Some players just love the confines of their home ice surroundings and this guy is a great example of that as 27 of his 42 points and seven of his eight powerplay goals this season have been at home where the Stars have an impressive record of 17-6-1. The superstar center has a huge ceiling tonight as the Leafs have lost five of their last six games(they are playing as I write this) and he also offers a high floor as he has averages just over four shots per game at home, so fire Seguin up with confidence in all formats.

Stack with: Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov

Sidney CrosbySidney Crosby FD - $9100 DK - $7200
Opponent - MIN
Proj Pts FD - 15.12 DK - 4.45

"Sid the kid" looks like he is ready to carry the two-time defending champs on his back for the last half of the season as he is on a lengthy eight-game point streak with three goals and 13 assists. While the Wild are ranked #1 defensively at home, they dip all the way down to 30th on the road, which is some of the wildest home/away splits that I have ever witnessed. Sid has averaged only 2.8 shots this season, so safety is an issue for cash games, especially on Fanduel, but he is a great GPP play there and he is an elite GPP play over at Draftkings and you could possibly consider him in cash games there as well.

Stack with: Connor Sheary, Dominik Simon

Chris TierneyChris Tierney FD - $3700 DK - $3300
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 9.41 DK - 2.67

When Joe Thornton went down with an injury halfway through last game, this young man was moved up to the #1 powerplay where he potted a goal to give him a goal, two assists, four shots, and two blocks in his last two games while averaging 18.5 minutes of ice-time. Thornton was placed on the IR yesterday which means that Tierney should be promoted to the second line or even the first line today, so at these cheap prices, fire the youngster up in all formats.

Stack with: Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture(PP)

Also Consider: Evgeny Kuznetsov(WSH), William Karlsson(VEG), Ryan O'Reilly(BUF)

WINGERS

James NealJames Neal FD - $7400 DK - $6000
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 12.35 DK - 3.58

The total for this game according to Vegas odds is currently at seven goals, which is the first time I've ever seen a total that high. The Golden Knights scored five goals on an above-average Blue Jackets defense last game and tonight, the Islanders and their league-worst defense travel to "Sin City" where both nets could need new twine by the end of the night as both teams own top five offenses. There are a few Vegas forwards that are in play again tonight, but my favorite is this guy, who has four goals and an assist in his last four games, and a whopping 25 shots on goal in his last six. Neal is an elite play in all formats and he is very dangerous to fade, especially against an awful Islanders defense.

Stack with: David Perron, Erik Haula

David PastrnakDavid Pastrnak FD - $7400 DK - $6900
Opponent - OTT
Proj Pts FD - 15.25 DK - 4.51

The Bruins have scored at least a point in 17 straight games now and this young man has been a large part of that success as he plays on the #1 line and the #1 Powerplay unit. In his last four games, he has three goals, three assists, and 13 shots and the Senators are ranked 30th defensively. News just broke that his line-mate Brad Marchand has been suspended for five games, so Pastrnak will need to provide even more offense for the Bruins, so lock him and load him in all formats this evening.

Stack with: Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Spooner(PP)

Evgenii DadonovEvgenii Dadonov FD - $5000 DK - $5100
Opponent - WAS
Proj Pts FD - 10.89 DK - 3.19

The Capitals are another team with drastic home/away splits as they rank fourth on defense at home and 28th on the road. The young Russian has been playing well lately as he has three goals, two assists, and 16 shots in his last four games while playing on the #1 line and the #1 powerplay unit for the Panthers. Dadonov is too cheap on both sites and with the Capitals having a weak road defense, he is in play in all formats today.

Stack with: Andrei Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau

Also Consider: Jonathan Marchessault(VEG), Brock Boeser(VAN), Tyler Bertuzzi(DET)

DEFENSEMEN

Seth JonesSeth Jones FD - $6000 DK - $6300
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 13.38 DK - 3.86

Jones has been all over the ice lately as he has a goal, six assists, and 25 shots in his last six games, and nine blocks in his last two. He logs a ton of ice-time every game and tonight he and the Jackets get a juicy matchup against The Coyotes and their 26th ranked defense, so fire the young point man up in all formats if you are spending up at the defense position.

Marc-Edouard VlasicMarc-Edouard Vlasic FD - $4400 DK - $4500
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 10.04 DK - 2.99

The French-Canadian defenseman is a great compliment to his offensively sound team-mate Brent Burns as he is more of a stay-at-home type guy. The veteran has a goal and two assists in his last two games, and two goals, three assists, seven shots and an impressive 16 blocks in his last four while logging time on the #2 powerplay unit and both penalty kill units. The Rangers are ranked 25th defensively, so Vlasic is a great cash game play and also a decent choice for your GPP lineups.

Also Consider: Brent Burns(SJ) All formats, Josh Morrissey(WPG) Cash game formats only.
