Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 9/2/14 DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. Gone is the salary finagling, mixing and matching, and hair-pulling that goes into setting lineups. ScoreStreak simplifies the process in an easy-to-use interface. Employing a prop-pick style, ScoresStreak leagues are specific outcome dependent with three categories: Total Bases, Hits, and for pitchers, Strikeouts. New users who deposit through DFSR will get an extra $10 to play with. We are putting in picks every night and giving you some of our top plays each day. Two are on us, the third is all you. Or go your own way. As always, if you are new to daily fantasy baseball, make sure read our Free Baseball e-book. It contains one mistake that basically everyone in the daily fantasy baseball industry is making! Also be sure to sign up for a free 3-day trial to access the MLB system and spreadsheets that help produce our picks. And give ScoreStreak a try. You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Mike Trout Brad Peacock is just dreadful and I'd expect Trout to have a day against the guy with a mid 4's xFIP. The only thing that has me just a little concerned about using Trout against such a bad pitcher is that Peacock walks tons of guys. That limits what Trout can do just a little with the bat considering we are targeting only total bases. But the matchup is choice and Trout is as good as it gets. Giancarlo Stanton Has spent this season establishing himself as the kind of guy who likes to murder lefty pitching. Like horror show, nightmare kind of murdering. He's got an OPS over 1K in that side of the split to go with a 198 wRC+ and other-worldly .455 wOBA. That spells some bad news for Jon Niese today. Niese isn't bad, but Stanton makes up for it by causing permanent damage to southpaws.   Hits Jose Altuve Gets a bit boring recommending him day after day. But if you've played him he's been pretty much the man with at least one hit in his last nine games and three multi-hit games thrown in there. Today he faces the lefty C.J. Wilson putting little Jose in a good spot. He's crushing lefty pitching this season with a crazy 87% contact rate in that split. That spells a lot of hits and he should be able to snag at least one today. Jose Reyes Our system really hates Jeremy Hellickson today against the Jays. Kind of thinks he's going to get rocked. I'll put money on Reyes being part of it. He has a decent contact rate against righty pitching and Hellickson has...

The Braves are the 4th easiest team to strike out in all of the majors. This one has all the makings of a game where Lester goes deep into the game and racks up a lot of Ks in the process. He is opposed by Mike Minor, a talented pitcher who can't seem to get it together this year. A win seems likely. While the price is pretty high, it will be tough to invest more dollars at a better multiplier today. Adam Wainwright - FD 9700 DK 9200 DD 20050 DFSTR 6000 There's still a lot to love about Wainwright today. The guy has been his classic beast of a self (some recent blips aside) - owning some of the very best peripherals and ERA in the league. He's facing Odsrisamer Despaigne, who has managed just 36 Ks against 22 BBs in 59 IP this year. The lineup against him is making a run at one of the worst team wOBA performances ever. I love Wain for both safety and upside. Danny Salazar - FD 7100 DK 7000 DD 13750 DFSTR 0 If you're interested in trying to catch lightning in a bottle, you could do a lot worse than Danny Salazar. Our projection system actually likes him for a similar points output to the aces today, and while I'm not personally quite so bullish, it makes a compelling case. Baltimore does strike out a decent amount, and Kevin Gausman has been a peripheral disaster this year as well. You're running the risk of Salazar sinking your whole squad, but in the chance that he puts it together - you could win your league on the upside of the more expensive bats you could afford. Jake Arrieta - FD 7400 DK 8000 DD 14450 DFSTR 5300 Arrieta has emerged as a star this year, and the Mets are one of the 3 worst hitting teams in the majors. Rafael Montero has been horrendous this...

The only real case you can make for not playing him is probably to buck what the rest of the field is doing. While Scherzer has his perks, the match-up for Darvish simply can't be beaten. The Astros have struck out just .1% less than the first place Marlins, and Darvish's K/9 is borderline historic. Cole Hamels - FD 9800 DK 11100 DD 21150 SS 31700 A fantastic year for Hamels, who is putting up a fantastic ERA and K/9. Enter the lowly Mets, who are tied with the Phillies themselves as the second worst team in the league when it comes to wOBA and one of the five easiest teams in the majors to strike out, and you have a match made in heaven. Dillon Gee isn't scaring us, in case you were curious. The field A lot of guys to choose from here: Jeff Samardzija at home, Jake Odorizzi against the lowly Cubs, or even a dice roll with Francisco Liriano against the lefty-heavy Rockies Padres. I'm going to be going expensive with Darvish or Hamels, but if you insist on going cheaper, these are the guys I'd target. If you insist on playing the early slate, I like Scherzer best.   Catchers Mike Zunino - FD 2700 DK 2700 DD 7700 SS 5700 If you're going strictly upside, it's tough to pass up on the power hitting Zunino against a pitcher of Noesi's skill level. With a 4.44 xFIP and a 38.7% ground ball rate, Noesi is a prime guy to stack against if you're going for a big score. Devin Mesoraco - FD 3200 DK 4000 DD 8300 SS 7700 Brad Penny indahouse!!!!!!!!!! Brad Penny was terrible the last time he pitched a full season, which was in freaking 2011. He posted a 4.74 xFIP then, and has AGED THREE YEARS. Mesoraco has been crushing it this season, and while his breakout is definitely somewhat BABIP fueled, that won't make a difference here. Also considered:...

First there's the fact that the Twins are the 7th easiest team in the league to strike out. Next is that he'll be facing off against one Yohan Pino. Last is that he's gone from a tough hitter's park to a great pitcher's park. And he's just pretty damned good. For me, Lester is the highest upside and lowest risk of the day. Collin McHugh - FD 7200 DK 8400 DD 16600 SS 23000 McHugh came back in late July and put up two pretty darned good fantasy starts that would have been even better had his team been able to put up a win. He's still got the excellent K potential, and facing the Phillies is an added bonus. They're in the top half of the league in terms of how easy they are to strike out, and have been in the bottom 5 of team wOBA all season. Added bonus for McHugh? His opposing starter, Roberto Hernandez, is one of the very worst pitchers to take the ball every 5 days in the majors. I'm thinking he's got a good chance to snag that illusive win. Early Games Jordan Zimmermann - FD 8900 DK 9400 DD 17850 SS 28500 There's not a lot to choose from in the early slate, so let me make a brief case for Zimmermann. The guy's simply in his prime - striking out more guys than ever, and walking fewer. The Mets are downright hopeless when it comes to hitting, and their best hitter (Wright) hasn't made contact against a right handed pitcher in what feels like a million years. Also considered: Homer Bailey Catchers Late Games Devin Mesoraco - FD 3400 DK 4100 DD 9250 SS 8300 Mesoraco is having an insane break out this year, and while it's BABIP fueled, a lot of it is more than legit. His career line against left handers is terrific, and his line this year is even better. Any time you can get a catcher with a .367...

The good Phillies are old and K prone, and the bad Phillies are... bad. In spite of a great home park, the Phils have a wOBA below .300 and have struck out the 12th most in the majors. Hamels is a less than ideal match-up, but Strasburg is simply irresistable. Yu Darvish - FD 11100 DK 11200 DD 21100 SS 30200 Darvish has been human recently, but the upside is still just tremendous. The Indians are tougher to strike out than the Phils, but Bauer is a much more favorable guy to face than Hamels. If you want to go safer today, Darvish is worth a look to be sure. Madison Bumgarner - FD 8800 DK 9200 DD 18000 SS 26300 The Mets are basically the Phillies, but worse. Their team wOBA is a whopping 3 points higher, but their the 8th easiest team in the league to strike out. Colon has been pretty sharp this year, but the Giants will still be considerable favorites, and Bumgarner should have a nice start. Also considered: Josh Beckett, Tyson Ross Value Plays: Marcus Stroman, Francisco Liriano   Catchers Brian McCann - FD 2800 DK 4100 DD 7200 SS 5300 I have to be real with you: today is a brutal day to pick a catcher. It's with some regret that I present Brian McCann as the best catcher play of the day. Basically, Buchholz and his 70 Ks against 33 BB in 96 innings this year has been a mess, and while McCann has been pretty bad himself - it's still a great platoon spot in a good hitters' park. Salvador Perez - FD 2800 DK 3800 DD 6950 SS 5400 Perez makes a pretty solid play against Scott Kazmir today, in spite of Kazmir being a good pitcher. He's a .372 career wOBA guy against left handed pitching, and while he's run pretty bad against southpaws this year, he should definitely get that back on track by the end of the...
