They've played more games on the road than at home this season. Due to some rainouts early on, they lost a bunch of their games in that sweet Mile High air, and haven't caught up yet. That will begin to swing as the season moves along and their stats climb. Now of course, this matters a little more on salary sites where the prices are depressed. But others will look at the grotesque OPS's for these two guys and think there is something wrong. Other than Tulo's walk rate running at a career low, nothing else about their batted ball profiles is too terribly alarming. CarGo is expecially making solid contact with a great LD%. And Tulo is running really bad in Hr/FB. Coors helps with that number. I love these two for the top of the total bases category today against Vogelsong who's K rate is less than seven per nine with an xFIP close to five.   Hits Angel Pagan Norichika Aoki I'm picking on Coors a lot today, but you kind of have to. It's the bet hitter's park in all of baseball and whenever possible we need to take advantage. These two guys are in excellent spots for much the same reason. They hit at the top of the order and are facing Kyle Kendrick who doesn't strike anyone out. Kendrick, this season, is K-ing less than five batters per nine and walking a decent amount. I don't love the latter stat when trying to predict hits in a game. But that these guys have a lowered K expectation is a good place to start. Both are great contact hitters. They both strike out about 10% of the time against righty pitching and neither draws a ton of walks. Love the contact rates for pumping out hits....

Pitcher Clayton Kershaw - FD 11700 DK 12400 DFSTR 12700 Ended the year as the league’s best pitcher and starts off this season looking very much the same way. To say Clayton was dominant last season would be an insult to his actual performance. He K’d well over a batter an inning, walked almost no one and finished the season with an absurd 1.77 ERA. Look for the good times to continue this season as he comes out of the gate facing the Padres who, while improved this season, have a lot of work to make up for their bottom feeding against lefties last season. They hit a paltry .616 OPS with a 22% K rate agaisnt lefties. Plus, Kershaw gets to roll in a home park that really depresses power across the board. Kershaw enters this game a heavy favorite for the win. The tag is steep, but in cash games he makes a solid call. Corey Kluber - FD 10400 DK 9800 DFSTR 9700 Coming off a somewhat surprising Cy Young season, Kluber makes for a solid Opening Day value facing the Astros. Kluber had an insane 5:1 K:BB ratio last season to with a 2.57 xFIP. His 28.3% K% was among the best in the game and should see decent K numbers in this game. The Astros made some minor changes adding Lowrie and Rasmus to the lineup, but are coming off a year in which they struck out 24% of the time against righties. He comes a little cheaper than Kershaw, and has a little less upside. But the value is still there. He’s a clear play on DraftKings. Francisco Liriano - FD 8500 DK 8300 DFSTR 7700 He’s more of a GPP consideration for me on this slate for a couple of reasons. When Liriano gets rolling down hill he can rack up strikeout numbers with the best of them. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have pinpoint command which can lead to elevated walk numbers and pitch counts. It’s tough for him to go late into games. In fact, he didn’t make it past seven innings in any start last season. But he does strike out more than a batter an inning and faces a Reds’ team that came in near the basement last season against southpaws. They added Marlon Byrd which will help, and could surprise a little on the offensive front. But overall, I think you...

You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases Miguel Cabrera Miggy prefers left handed pitching, but what he really prefers is plain bad pitching. He'll be facing some of that in Trevor May. I don't want to give away May's most outrageous stat, but I'll start you by saying he's given up 54 hits in 39 innings this year. Oh man, can't wait for the big reveal! Freddie Freeman Not a classic total bases play, but I actually love Freeman in the 2nd slot for his doubles potential. With 64 doubles+triples+homers, Freeman is as likely as anyone to rack up 2 total bases or more when facing a right handed pitcher. At this stage in his career, Volquez is essentially a pitch to contact guy. I'm feeling Freeman.   Hits Victor Martinez Ian Kinsler So, it's the end of baseball season, and your eyes are beginning to glaze over. You're tempted to be wooed into the relatively easier schedule of daily fantasy football season, and try to make your millions playing this crazy game just once a week. You might miss a thing or two, you know, here or there. Here's a thing you may have missed: Trevor May has literally an 8.39 ERA this season. That is to say, he is giving up almost a full run per inning. So, that strikes me as a good guy to stack hitters against. Just a hunch.   Strikeouts Max Scherzer Sometimes, you have to set match-up aside and just go for the big guns. The big guns in this case belong to one Maximum-Maximillian-Maximus Scherzer. So, the Twins aren't a terrible offense necessarily, but they do strike out the 8th most in the league. This should Scherzer a chance to shake what his momma gave him, and he's by far the closest thing we have to a "good bet" to hit the 9 Ks threshold. Gio Gonzalez Gio continues to hum along at a K per inning, and while the Mets are essentially league...

Now go win that Tesla!   Total Bases Edwin Encarnacion Encarnacion has been in beast mode when he's been healthy this season, and popped another homer last night. Tonight he'll get to feast at Cafe Capuano. While Capuano is having a fine season by his standards, he is basically a league average pitcher at his absolute best. Encarnacion has a wOBA that's .23 points higher against lefties, and hitting in Yankee Stadium is a delightful place for anyone to hit. Justin Morneau Morneau has utterly slammed right handed pitching this year, and now he gets to take on Trevor Cahill and his 5.38 ERA in Coors Field. I'm making that motion where you place all your fingers on your lips and make the kissing noise while exploding your fingers outward.   Hits Erick Aybar Mike Trout With just 15% total strikeouts + walks and a .300 BABIP when balls to get in play, Aybar makes for a great play against the fully declined (and nearly dead) Colby Lewis. Mike Trout, who plays center field for the team, is a pretty good hitter in his own right. If you don't take Trout for total bases, he makes a great hits play as well.   Strikeouts Max Scherzer Ugh, it's really weird to start Scherzer against the team that strikes out the least in the major leagues, but with 237 Ks in 201 IP this year, Scherzer is in a league of his among guys going today. It's hard to imagine punching him in for 9 Ks, but I think he's a great bet for 7. Jordan Zimmermann It's a weird day for strike outs. Zimmermann gets the nod here ahead of other guys with a higher K/9 than he has because of the match up. The Marlins strike out with the 3rd highest frequency of any team in the majors, and if Zimmermann pitches deep into this one, he could put up some...

Now go win that Tesla!   Total Bases Mike Trout OOooooooh! The world's best hitter against someone named "Lisalverto Bonilla!!" Honestly, I don't need to know anything about the guy to recommend Trout without hesitation here. If he makes a mistake around the plate, and he should make more than one, Trout will be all over it. Michael Cuddyer Doug wrote this yesterday: Coors? Check. Crappy lefty on the mound in Vidal Nuno who gets raked by righty bats? Yup. Great platoon splits for Cuddyer against lefties? You got it. In love? I dare say that I am. Cuddyer has a small sample size of utter dominance against lefties this season and has been much better against them for his career. I've got him going in all formats today and total bases will be one of them. Here's what's changaed - Chase Anderson is actually a legitimate pitcher. But Cuddyer has been serviceable against righties as well, and again, dude - Coors! Coors!   Hits Robinson Cano It feels like we've given you Cano every time he's faced a righty this season. And frankly, it's paid off for you. Cano has devastated right handed pitchers this season - and on this lovely night he happens to face one of the worst of them. Brad Peacock has racked up a startling 64 BBs in his 123 innings pitched this year. And what I love about Cano here is that he couldn't care less about walking. That means that if Peacock is anywhere near the plate, we'll have a chance to see a little Cano laser show. Adrian Beltre Speaking of guys who can crush opposite handed pitchers, oh, gypsy. Beltre is batting a clean .350 this season against left handed pitching. Hector Santiago has gotten plenty lucky with his ERA this year, and his 103 Ks against 50 walks speak more to his inability to control the ball around the zone.   Strikeouts Jon LesterLester has a K per...
