Liberty Bowl – Texas A&M vs. West Virginia

Game Preview
Now we’re getting into the meat and potatoes of Bowl season. Texas A&M vs. West Virginia coming at you 2pm EST. This one should be exciting to watch and really should have been the last game on docket. A&M has had a very tumultuous season. After putting the nation on notice with a dominating road win week 1 at SC, A&M went 6-5 the rest of the way and never showed what they showed that night. Kenny Hill was supposed make us all forget about Johnny Football and the only thing that has been forgotten is Kenny Hill. Kyle Allen replaced Hill and the roller coaster ride continued for the Aggies. Allen has some nice games and some real clunkers. Their success against an underrated WV defense will rest solely on the arm of Allen. WV runs a balanced offense with a fair amount of talent at the skilled positions. They are four deep at RB with Smallwood & Shell leading the way, but they butter the dinner rolls through the passing game. This is where it gets interesting. Trickett retired from football due to ongoing concussion issues and now the Mountaineers will turn to Skyler Howard. White & Alford are very talented receivers and A&M will likely struggle to stop them both. Fireworks alert.

Players to Watch
(A&M) Kyle Allen, ALL receivers
(WV) Skyler Howard, Shell/Smallwood, White/Alford

Fantasy Analysis
Texas A&M stinks out loud against the run so the backs from WV could be in for a nice day. The issue is the workload. It appears the Mountaineers are locked in to a back by committee approach and that kills the fantasy value of all the backs. Shell & Smallwood is as far as I would go and both make fine GPP plays or great ones if you pick the guy that gets hot. If the price is right you can arguably put them in your cash lineups as well, but I will look elsewhere if I can. The A&M receivers are really the only guys I’m considering and that’s only if they are priced in the punt price range.

Russell Athletic Bowl - Clemson vs. Oklahoma

Game Preview
As you’re settling in for Monday’s dinner you can tune to the Russell Athletic Bowl and watch Oklahoma take on Clemson. Phenom quarterback, DeShaun Watson, has decided to have surgery and will not play in this year’s Bowl game. That’s a major blow for the Clemson offense and I’m not sure they can recover against an explosive Sooner squad. Clemson will rely on its #1 ranked defense to slow down this Sooner offense and hopefully keep them in the game. Frankly, I don’t think it will happen. While they may slow them down I think the loss of Watson will be too much to overcome. The Sooners, in the other hand, are expected to get all 3 offensive stars back. Samaje Perine, Trevor Knight, and Sterling Shepard are all healthy after suffering late season injuries. Last year Knight shocked Alabama with an out of this world performance. Perine broke the NCAA record for rushing yards in 1 game. #1 defense or not, Clemson will need to be on their game to stop the Sooner attack

Players to Watch
(Clem) Wayne Gallman, keep moving
(Okl) Trevor Knight, Samaje Perine, Sterling Shepard

Fantasy Analysis
I don’t like anyone on Clemson with Watson being out. If you want to be different you could roll Cole Stoudt and Artavis Scott as a double bubble connection in GPP’s, but stay far away for cash game pruposes. They could move to a run heavy attack which would benefit Gallman. Perine is a total beast, but Clemson’s defense is legit tough. Im sure he will still eclipse 100 yards and a score, but with his price tag you need to get more than that and it’s hard to gauge who is going to win that battle. Oklahoma runs the ball with the best of them and Clemson stops it equally as well. Choose your fate wisely.

Texas Bowl - Texas vs. Arkansas

Game Preview
To cap the night off we have the Texas Bowl, featuring Arkansas taking on, well, Texas. The Razorbacks are 6 point favorites, but getting to play a bowl in your home state certainly makes things a tad easier. This figures to be run heavy defensive battle, or at least Vegas things so with a 45 pt total. Arkansas has one of the best 1-2 punches in the country with Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins. Collins may have more raw talent, but its Williams that paced the Hogs this year. While Texas has a reasonably tough defense they excel at stopping the pass, something Arkansas does not do very often. Texas runs a balanced offense, but not very well, as they rank 102nd in overall offense. Swoops does have a little sizzle with his feet and if Texas wants to win this game Swoops will have to connect with John Harris on the outside and make some plays with his feet. I don’t see them being able to line up Gray and Brown and pound straight at the Razorbacks.

Players to Watch
(Tex) Tyrone Swoops, John Harris
(Ark) Jonathan Williams, Alex Collins, Hunter Henry

Fantasy Analysis
I will have very little exposure in this game. While Williams and Collins are very talented backs and Arkansas will likely have nice rushing totals by the final whistle, they cannibalize each other. Williams is the more consistent of the two, but volume is a major issue, especially since Texas won’t just roll over on defense. I do like Hunter Henry at the TE spot for Arkansas, but that’s honestly about it for this game. Unless this game goes completely beyond what Vegas thinks there won’t be enough points to use these guys in GPP’s as well. Basically stay away and focus your time on the next slate of games.

Music City Bowl – Notre Dame vs. LSU

Game Preview
Right as you realize how much Tuesdays suck you can tune into the Music City Bowl when the Tigers battle the Fighting Irish. The only thing giving Notre Dame a chance in this one is Everett Golson. Golson is far from a polished drop back quarterback, but he is as athletic as anyone and if he is in zone, making good decisions, he can wreak havoc on just about anyone. He will have to be just that because LSU is a top 10 defense (8). The player to keep an eye on for the Tigers is Leonard Fornette. He is expected to become a super star for LSU, but his freshman has been somewhat underwhelming. The Tigers do have a talented backfield so there was no need to rush him into service, but when given the opportunity he has shown flashes of what’s to come. I think Fornette may give the entire nation a glimpse of what’s to come against Notre Dame. Sorry Irish, this won’t be your day.

Players to Watch
(LSU) Leonard Furnette
(ND) Everett Golson, Tarean Folson, Will Fuller

Fantasy Analysis
I won’t have a ton of exposure to this game because it just doesn’t match up well. In general, I really like the big three from ND, but LSU is legit on defense and the risk of missing value is greater than I like for cash games. LSU has been gashed, at times, by the run this year so Folson could find some room and you can never discount a freakish athlete at quarterback. The potential is there, but the safety is not. Had Fornette received consistent volume I would be all over him, but he doesn’t, so I’m not. My gut says he crushed it so I will be running him a bunch in GPP’s, but depending how the money shakes out I’m just not sure he will be in my cash lineups.

Belk Bowl - Louisville vs. Georgia

Game Preview
Welcome to the Belk Bowl in what should shape up to be a great game between Louisville and Georgia. The Bulldogs finished 9-3 and mostly without Todd Gurley. That’s not bad in the SEC. The reason you ask? Nick Chubb. This dude has the dash and gash from every which way. He’s not Todd Gurley, but he is Nick Chubb and that’s pretty dang good. Louisville is tough on defense, but playing in the SEC means that won’t be anything new for Chubb or the dogs. Louisville is being mum on the availability of Reggie Bonnafon, possibly just to keep Georgia off the scent, so we’ll have to wait and see if it will be Bolin or Bonnafon. Louisville’s defense is their strength and they will once again rely on their D to make plays and create good starting field position for the offense. DeVante Parker is an elite receiver so Georgia will need to keep tabs on him or he could do some serious damage. In the end, I think Georgia will grind its way to a victory

Players to Watch
(UL) Bonnafan/Bolin, Brandon Radcliff, DeVante Parker
(Geo) Nick Chubb

Fantasy Analysis
I really hope Louisville announces their starter and it’s not a platoon scenario. Bonnafon and Bolin both offer decent value, although with some modest risk. Getting a QB at these prices can really benefit the overall strength of your lineup. It will be a wait and see approach before deciding to pull the trigger on either QB. Bolin did great in relief for Bonnafon, but having thrown only 38 passes all year it’s kind of tough to feel confident. Chubb is the wild card because you will need to pay up to get him, but history suggests he won’t have a problem hitting 3x his price. I look for 4x, but at his price tag locking up a solid 3x isn’t all that bad an idea. The Cardinals can be tough up front so there is some risk there, but I think his track record and expected volume are enough to put him out there.

Foster Farms Bowl - Stanford vs. Maryland

Game Preview
And here we are, the Foster Farms Bowl. The folks on the West Coast should be happy they get to watch their Cardinal take on the Terps from Maryland. The first thing that stands out to me about this game is the 14 point edge Vegas is giving Stanford, it’s just not enough. The only rub, and I mean only rub, is how motivated will Stanford be? The program has grown accustom to success at the highest level and playing in the Foster Farms Bowl, (that’s Foster Farms people), is probably not what they had in mind. Outside of motivation Maryland has no business being on the field for this one. The physicality of Stanford is going to be too much for Maryland to overcome. CJ Brown, while dreamy, is really just an athlete with a string arm. He has no business dropping back and trying to pass on this defense (or any for that matter). That physicality should also allow Stanford to dictate on offense as well. Get the ice packs ready MD, the smart guys are gonna put a thumpin on ya.

Players to Watch
(Stan) Kevin Hogan, Remound Wright, Devon Cajuste
(MD) CJ Brown

Fantasy Analysis
I’m not even going to discuss Maryland guys. Play them at your own peril. Stanford, on the other hand offers some choice options. Since they aren’t an offensive juggernaut their prices are somewhat discounted. Hogan isn’t flashy, but he gets it done and 2-3 total touchdowns are a reasonable expectation and that’s enough to pay his price. Ty Montgomery is a GTD and if he is out I think Cajuste warrants strong consideration. Wright wont pile up the yards, but six touchdowns in his last two games is more than a fluke. He has seen an increased workload and especially near the goal line.
