Daily Fantasy Basketball Injury News and Updates for FanDuel and DraftKings - 2/27/16

Welcome to the daily updates and injury news article. We'll try and update it right up to line-up locks with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!

Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock tonight.

By the way - we keep our projection system updated with all of the changes as they occur throughout the day right up until lineup lock. Every day. If you want access to that system so you can cut out a lot of the research element, click the button below!

Special Note: Our new optimizer is available! Click the button below to check it out and see if it's right for you.

Now let’s look at some news that’s come in throughout the day to see if anything’s changed in our minds or in the NBA landscape. It's a shorter slate and a light news day, but we'll be updating as stuff rolls in. Also throw out some ideas in the comments and we can take it from there.

What We Know

Anthony Davis is out!
Ryan Anderson everywhere. We're going to make other changes to usage of the other players that will be reflected inside our lineup optimizer.

Eric Gordon is back
I doubt he factors much into the minutes for the Pelicans except that he will cut into some of the backcourt minutes for guys like Alonzo Gee and possibly Toney Douglas. New Orleans has been running some odd guard sets over the last couple of weeks though that could stabilize with Gordon back in the lineup.

Not much other than the obvious - Relatively speaking.
This is a pretty slow news day so far as we are only really waiting on a couple of pieces of info. Most teams come into this game on the healthier side, especially when it comes to their top players. And of course there's the big game today between Golden State and Oklahoma City. To say I'm excited to watch this one is an understatement. I know that isn't news per se, but the game has a ridiculously high over/under at 234.5

Couple this game with two other games on the schedule projected at around 215 and higher (Spurs-Rockets, Pelicans-Timberwolves) and you have to believe we are going to see some really high cash lines for tonight. Plan appropriately.

What We’re Waiting to Know

Will Derrick Rose play?
He was ruled out pretty early last night which has me thinking there's a possibility he sits again in this one. I'm writing this rather early and will update throughout the day as we learn Rose's status. It's a little tough to figure how another Rose absence will effect the Bulls except to obviously make them worse. Last night against the Hawks they were involved in a mini-blowout and the starting backcourt of Moore and Snell really didn't see much in the way of minutes. Doug McDermott played 30 minutes with a healthy 20/5 line thanks to him throwing up 13 shots. I don't want to pencil in that kind of volume for the guy and at this point even sans-Rose the Bulls are a risky proposition.

Will Tony Allen play?
This news is important because Allen coming back would almost assuredly cut into minutes for guys like Matt Barnes, Lance Stephenson and P.J. Hairston among others. It's hard to know exactly how the Grizz plan to play things when they are back fully healthy. I suspect the minutes get trimmed from everyone just a little and they run a "deep" team. ("Deep" is a stretch because I mostly mean they will just play a lot of different guys rather than the positive form of deep wherein a team is good).

The "every lineup" guys

Man today is crazy. Let me start by saying that when I originally looked at the projections for today I assumed the system would take a stars and scrubs approach to setting lineups. (And it still might, it's early in the day). But as of right now it thinks there is so much mid-tier value that getting a bunch of those guys into lineups is the way to go.

Shelvin Mack - FD 3700 DK 4500
Opponent - BKN
FD Proj. Pts - 24.38 DK Proj. Pts - 25.95
Assuming he draws the start again for the Jazz, Mack is basically a must play on both sites for cash games. Even on DraftKings where prices tend to correct quicker than other places, Mack is such a high points/$ play because the price hasn't come close to catching up with this new opportunity. The Jazz are hard up for consistent point guard play right now. And though Mack isn't necessarily a savior in that realm, he does appear an upgrade over Neto. I suspect he's the highest owned player on the slate today.

Kawhi Leonard - FD 7900 DK 7600
Opponent - HOU
FD Proj. Pts - 38.98 DK Proj. Pts - 40.72
I know the big game is OKC-GSW. I get it. But don't sleep on the Spurs against the Rockets in terms of fantasy value. Our system loves the chance for Kawhi to beast on a Rockets D getting positively owned by small forwards this season. They are allowing about 9% more scoring that league average to the position and Vegas doesn't project the game as getting out of hand.

  • Does Gordon's return have a significant impact on Holiday's minutes or usage? If not, is he a good offbeat play on the night of Steph vs Russ and all the sub 5000 value out there at PG?

  • For GPP
    Westbrook/Curry
    Lavine/Stephenson
    Durante/Hairston
    Parker/Teletopic
    Bogut
    Any thoughts

    • This lineup feels very unsafe but I get the idea. You are looking to stack those three big guys. But guys like Hairston, Lance and to a lesser extent Mirza could really give you issues.

    • I'd look to The Brow as a 3rd stud (and pick between the PGs). That way you can get Mack in. He's one of the best punt plays of the night. I just put together a Pay-and-Punt lineup with all 3 and a projected total a little over 300. You can get higher projected totals tonight, but if all 3 studs go off and the punts come through you have a good deal of upside (which you want for tourneys). HTH

  • Seems like an easy night for Cash games. The big scores are going to come from the guys who roll 2-3 of the big players and nail the punt plays and probably won't see much of that in cash because as Doug mentioned above feels unsafe to do that.

  • With your new optimal lineup maker, are you guys considering an option that would allow users to generate lineups that would focus more on 50/50 games?

    • That is essentially the default now. We are considering adding in some sDev pieces that allow us to calculate for upside/floor

  • What your take on playing either Len or Chandler in a GPP tonight against the Gasol-less Grizzlies?

    • If I could count on either of their minutes I'd definitely do one or the other. Just hard to know which one.

  • I'm rolling with Westbrook, Curry, Thompson, Lavine, Leonard, Iggy, Anderson, Josh Smith and Plumlee.

No way to pick how many pts will be needed to score to win a cash game today

    • it's been pretty crazy ( the cash line in cash games). Seemed like earlier this year once you got past like 280 you were pretty solid. Here lately it's been 300+ a lot of nights. Biggest difference I have seen is early in the season a sort of off night by someone wouldn't crush and lately it does. It's pretty crazy that 5x is sort of the cash line. Fully expect a number of people to roll 2-3 stars tonight and figure out the punt code and roll past 400 again.

  • Josh smith is going to crush the Spurs again
You can thank me post game and now you can afford durant towns Leonard
