100th Open de France

Le Golf National - Paris, France

Par 71 - 7,249 Yards

This week the European Tour heads to Paris, France for the 10oth Open de France at Le Golf National Albratross course. This will be the 25th time the course has hosted this event but this year will play a bit different as it underwent a 10 month renovation in preparation for the 2018 Ryder Cup. It will also be big for many golfers as counts towards the Race to Dubai points as well as Ryder Cup points. On top of all that, the Top 12 not already in the Open Championship will get a spot. There is a lot at stake this week.

The course will play tough with a premium put on accuracy, both off the tee and in the approach to the undulating greens. There is a ton of water throughout the course so ball placement and smart play will be the key to getting birdies and pars and not giving away strokes to the field. Let's take a look at some GPP strategy for this week.

Here are a list of the stats that we have on the European Tour:

  • Driving Distance
  • Driving Accuracy
  • Greens in Regulation
  • Stroke Average
  • Sand Saves
  • Scrambling
  • Putts Per GIR
  • Putts Per Round

My European Tour cheatsheet will be included in the $5 price of my regular PGA Premium content. If you have any questions about the article, cheatsheet, or anything fantasy golf hit me up on Twitter(Jager_Bombs9) or leave your questions in the comments section below.

High End Targets ($9,000+)

Rory McIlroy
Vegas Odds - 9/1
Draftkings - $13,400

Yep you seen that right. Rory is close to $3,000 more than any other golfer in the field. I love this spot for GPP's as I feel most people will gravitate to Kaymer or Westwood  or even Masters champ Danny Willett at a much lower price. Rory came to France instead of playing in the WGC Bridgestone for a few reasons. He wants to maintain his lead in the Race to Dubai and also felt it would be a great tune up for the Open Championship in two weeks. Looking at his limited stats(22 rounds of golf on Euro Tour) he ranks 1st in GIR and Stroke Average. He is motivated to win and add to his resume and will be my #1 target in GPP's this week.

Bernd Wiesberger
Vegas Odds - 28/1
Draftkings - $9,900

He is one of the top course horses and is the defending champion of this event. He is not one of the top accuracy guys on the Euro Tour but navigated this course last season by hitting a ton of greens, scrambling and only making a total of six bogies for the week.  He comes in with some nice form as well with a T7 last week at the BMW International after a T75 at the US Open. Before that, on the European Tour, he finished T10 at the Lyoness Open and T15 at the BMW PGA Championship. He will have some stiff competition but I believe a Top 10 is close to a sure thing this week for Wiesberger.

Also Consider - Andy Sullivan

Mid Tier Targets ($7,000 - $9,000)

Gregory Bourdy
Vegas Odds - 40/1
Draftkings - $8,600

France's own Gregory Bourdy is coming into his native Open Championship with tremendous form and should be a factor this week. He finished T18 at the US Open, T6 at the Lyoness Open, T15 at the BMW PGA and T10 at the Irish Open. He is playing with confidence and fits the course quite well. He isn't long off the tee but ranks 26th in Driving Accuracy, 44th in GIR, 20th in Stroke Average and 54th in Scrambling. He has made the cut at this tournament 8 out of 12 times he has played highlighted by a T6 in 2010 and three straight Top 35 finishes. At a mid $8K price range I feel safe with him in any format.

Thongchai Jaidee
Vegas Odds - 66/1
Draftkings - $7,700

There is a ton of mid tier value this week with such a strong field but I will have the most exposure to Jaidee in this range. He isn't the most accurate off the tee(98th) but is a tremendous scrambler(9th) and a solid putter(36th in Putts per Round). He has made the cut at the Open de France six out of 10 times in his career including two straight top 10 finishes in 2015(10th) and 2014(2nd). Another golfer I feel safe rostering in any format.

Also Consider - Fabrizio Zanotti

Low End Target (Min Price - $6,900)

Eduardo De La Riva
Vegas Odds - 200/1
Draftkings - $6,200

If you are looking for a low end flier to get Rory in your lineup take a shot with De La Riva. He ranks 17th on tour in Driving Accuracy and 60th in GIR and is coming into this event with decent form. He missed the cut at the BMW International last week but has a T10 at the Lyoness Open and a T15 at the BMW PGA Championship. He has played here three times(each of the last 3 years) and has finishes of T3, 66th, and T45 last season. He looks like a great pick to make the cut and has proven he can contend at this course and others requiring accuracy. It will all come down to his putter to get the most of his ceiling this week.

Also Consider - Graeme Storm
