Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Jake Arrieta and Aaron Sanchez in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below.

Carlos MartinezCarlos Martinez FD 9500 DK 11400
Opponent - NYM (Syndergaard) Park - @NYM
FD - 31.59 DK - 21.28

I know you were expecting Noah "Thor" Syndergaard to be the pitcher I talked about in this Mets-Cardinals matchup, but I just can't trust the 23-year-old. Yes, his stuff is electric, but he's been dealing with right-arm issues the past couple months which is scaring me away. He's been very inconsistent during that span, which is another reason why I won't be rostering him into my DFS squads tonight. In order for my blood pressure to not to go through the roof, I will instead roster his opponent, Carlos "Baby Pedro" Martinez.

Not only is he healthy, but he also has a better matchup between the two. This season, the Mets own a .308 wOBA (20th in MLB) to go along with a 22.8 K% (8th in MLB). This matchup provides Baby Pedro with the K upside we look for with rostering a pitcher and pitching at spacious Citi Field certainly gives him a boost (just from a general pitching standpoint). He's more of a GPP play for me, as he will be going up against Thor, but you got to love the matchup Martinez and his 2.83 ERA are in today.

Dallas KeuchelDallas Keuchel FD 8600 DK 8000
Opponent - NYY (Pineda) Park - @HOU
FD - 32.39 DK - 21.38

Dallas Keuchel pitching at home against the New York Yankees? Sign me up!

Let me start off by telling how dominant Keuchel is when pitching at Minute Maid Park. Since 2014, he owns a 1.03 WHIP, 2.36 ERA and has held opponents to a .215 AVG. I can't figure out what he loves so much about pitching at home, but let me tell you: he's a completely different animal when he steps foot on that rubber at Minute Maid Park. Not only is he pitching at home, but he also draws a favorable matchup going up against the Yankees.

On the year, the Yankees have struggled against left-handed pitchers. They own a .304 wOBA (27th in MLB) and .127 ISO (28th in MLB). They have been awful against southpaws and moving away from Yankee Stadium will hurt their numbers even more. I know some of you will be scared to roster a pitcher with a 4.70 ERA, but he's been much better than his ERA suggests, as he owns a 3.55 xFIP.

Braden ShipleyBraden Shipley FD 5700 DK 5000
Opponent - MIL (Anderson) Park - @MIL
FD - 28.64 DK - 18.92

Looking for a way to save some money to load up on big bats tonight? Then why not go with the Diamondbacks' top prospect, Braden Shipley. Shipley, 24, will be making his Major League debut and it will be against the Milwaukee Brewers. On the year, the Brewers own a .306 wOBA (22nd in MLB) to go along with a 26.3 K% (1st in MLB) against right-handed pitchers. He has an elite matchup, so go ahead and roll with the 23-year-old.

Quick stats on the Rook: In his time in the minors, he owned a 6.41 K/9, 2.91 BB/9, 1.35 WHIP and 71.1 LOB%. He isn't a guy that fans a lot of hitters, but going up against the Brewers will help him out in that department! He's a nice SP2 option if you're looking to save some money for bats.

  1. What do you think about hellickson as a gpp option only. I know the Marlins don’t strike out a ton but he has above-average K numbers and pitching in Miami will certainly help.

  2. @Josh – i like Hellickson a lot actually

  3. The Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers for FanDuel & DraftKings 7/25/16 seem to be promising, so I think many people should play next time.
