A quick heads up - we post an updates article every day in the early afternoon, EST, to catch everyone up on how things are changing as a result of whatever news has come through. We also have great talks in the comments of that article. Hope to see you there!
Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Miami Marlins vs. Jorge de la Rosa (Rockies)
Colorado Rockies vs. David Phelps (Marlins)
Park - Coors Field
Oh baby. (Wipes sweat off his brow). Oh baby. It’s typically a cop out to mention the game in Coors as the stack of the day as any kind of “sharp” analysis. This is Coors after all and the runs there come in bunches. But we have such a great opportunity today with cheaper pitching on the board that stacking Coors is likely the way to go. For starters we have the Marlins against the lefty Jorge de la Rosa projecting (as of the time of this writing) for somewhere around 5.5 runs. Even that seems low and I can see it ticking it up before game time. They have two bats in the middle of the order in Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna who are about the best in the business at rocking lefties. Over the last two years they have a 1.053 and 1.001 OPS respectively in that split. And this, again, is Coors. I love those two and the Marlins as a whole.

Meanwhile the Rockies are more than in play here against the righty Phelps. They are projected to score more than six runs in this affair with guys like Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon leading the charge. The Rockies don’t have a deep lineup but will face David Phelps getting the spot start here. Phelps has some K upside but I doubt he goes deep in this game.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Joel de la Cruz (Braves)
Park - Busch Stadium
Even though they were shutout out by that stalwart arm Brandon Finnegan on Thursday, I’m willing to go back to the well on the Cards for Friday. Joel de la Cruz isn’t much of a major league arm, striking out less than five batters per nine and carrying in an xFIP close to five. The Cardinals have messed around a bunch with their lineup lately with Matt Carpenter on the shelf. But they are getting healthier and Matt Adams and Brandon Moss should be in the middle of this lineup tonight. And we might even get a Greg Garcia sighting at the top of the order along with Jedd Gyorko. All of them would rate out as awesome values considering their prices on both sites. The Cardinals will be one of the more interesting lineup sweats (if such a thing exists in DFS) and how they choose to deploy their bats will inform a great deal of value tonight.

Chicago Cubs vs. Dillon Overton (Athletics)
Park - Oakland Coliseum

First of all, I don't like the park as the Oakland Coliseum has surrendered the 2nd least home runs and 5th least total runs in the league this season. This recommendation is a scenario where the matchup is just too good despite the park factor. The Cubs are the 4th highest scoring team(542 runs) in the league and get a great opportunity to build on those numbers against Dillon Overton. In his first four starts in the majors he has surrendered 34 hits and 19 earned runs in just 18.1 innings pitched with nine home runs. The awful ERA of 9.33 is backed up by a just as awful xFIP of 6.72. If he continues to give up fly balls at nearly an 80% rate he is going to get punished by the likes of Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist, Willson Contreras and even Javier Baez
